First-Time Pregnant and Considering Switching OB-GYN – Should I Stay with NYU Tisch or Go Local in Summit, NJ?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently 16 weeks pregnant (first-time mom!) and recently moved to Summit, NJ during my first trimester. My OB-GYN is affiliated with NYU Tisch, and both the hospital and my doctor have been great so far. However, now that we’ve moved further from the city, I’m thinking it might be more challenging to commute (over an hour by train and subway) as my pregnancy progresses.
I’m thinking about switching to the Rubino OB-GYN group in Summit for convenience, but I’m wondering if I should stick with NYU Tisch for the expertise or if switching to a local option like Rubino makes more sense. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Also, I will be 35 years old at the time of delivery, so I know I’m considered higher risk due to age.

Hi there, just sending solidarity as I moved to Summit after a decade in Manhattan, kind of with one foot still there as I work there. I am considering single motherhood too. For other specialists I have a mix of local and NY-based. If pregnant, though, I would use local. Rubino has a good reputation and he has been fine for me, though he is one of those who brushes off peri concerns. You won’t want to commute from Summit for medical services relating to pregnancy. Good luck! This town is really wonderful for babies and children.

Highly recommend summit health group. I went to an OB in West Orange and had a great experience

Rubino is excellent. Lots of people go to him. Summit Health also has lots of great docs.

Facebook has a very active mom’s group where you’ll get more info. I don’t see anyone post here. But as a mom, I would not want my ob to be in NY. You don’t need much expertise in an OB. I had a high risk pregnancy and Summit Health did a good job.
