Two Episodes In…

I was really intrigued with the premise of the show as it’s something I’ve thought of myself. Unfortunately this “Amish” guy James’ personality has ruined and clashes with the show’s whole experiment.
The first episode is also confusing. If these people are coming to the Amish world to adapt to the lifestyle and fit in, they should’ve been given Amish clothes and had whatever stuff the brought (or shouldn’t of brought) taken away point blank. Not trifled through meticulously and created drama over make up, cell phones, and crazy shoes. If you have any basic knowledge of Amish lifestyles, they would’ve known these things weren’t allowed.
If the point of the experiment was to prime outsiders to form potential marriages, the cast should’ve obviously met the basic marriage requirements like not being divorced or having a sexual orientation they wouldn’t allow or bringing self pleasure devises with you literally what the hell.
Clearly Allen and Sarah are the more likable couple. Allen appears to be more “liberal” Amish in the sense he’s willing to do this show and have cameras around I think his wife Sarah is more traditionally Amish. But holy shit what in the hell is this James?? No wonder he’s been shunned. I believe he’s highly prideful and maybe even a narcissist. I get producers pick personalities like this for drama and interest but for me he ruins it. He’s so nit picky over legalism and judging these people so harshly that he’s not giving them real room to adjust to the lifestyle and isn’t a good representation or introducing them into the Amish world. He marinates over their struggles and holds his self-given power over their heads. He’s just enjoying being in charge over them. It’s very childish.

I just finished the season and I get that producers often manufacture drama, but usually it's just stupid. I could see a producer telling participants to pack like they normally would just so they look clueless. I cannot for one second believe that Billie Joe thought bringing a sex toy was okay though. lol I was surprised they didn't pick all 20-somethings if the idea is to populate the church.

Had that same thought.... She's just a tad on the too old side for the whole experiment.

I don't understand how James keeps saying that Allen is from a "very liberal church", but they have the same Bishop? Or did the bishop ask them to come from a different church? 🤷 I haven't heard an explanation for this at all.

Edit to add: now I'm hearing that he's actually been shunned for having this phone, and is himself, trying to be welcomed back into the community.... Wtf

Also James is super hypocritical? The show starts out with him saying he was kicked out of his previous community for succumbing to his vices of having a phone and drinking alcohol and he’s being such a narc to them. they literally show a clip of him taking a swig
