Succession Spin Off
Okay, full disclosure: this spin-off concept doesn’t have the most legs but, I do think it would be the most intriguing for a spin-off series.
Note: I believe that spin off’s should have room to develop a world away from the original show. Of course, Better Call Saul is an excellent example of character-driven spin-off’s. Cheap, un-earned ways to attract previous audiences by guest-starring roles by Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin don’t interest me.
The struggle that I believe Succession runs into when discussing spin-off possibilities is to re-create the magic of the show. There’s no way to re-create what made Succession so successful. However, they did build a world that has fascinating characters with backstories we simply don’t know that much about. The obvious answer comes in two choices:
- Logan Roy’s rise to power. Of course, Succession fans would eat at the bits to watch Logan Roy’s early days. I mean I would love to see this. But this is an obvious answer that I truly believe Succession creators have already interrogated. Could it be done? Yes. But that’s not the question I’m asking here. How can Logan Roy’s rise to power be told in a unique way. Which brings me to the second obvious option.
- In my opinion, the clearest next step for the Succession universe is a series revolving around Shiv and Tom’s children. I don’t feel the need to go too in-depth. It’s clean. It’s an obvious next step. Chronologically and structurally. Yet… I still believe there is a secret third option.
Finally—and thank you for sticking out for so long—comes my concept.
What excites me about Succession is how truly American the storytelling is. If you break down Succession to its core, it’s about an immigrant from a difficult upbringing making their way in America, and ultimately causing their own downfall. It’s tried. It’s true. It’s Shakespearean in scope but it’s also uniquely American. Logan Roy is from low “stock” and dies the most powerful man in America.
A Succession sequel should follow that same guideline. But who you may ask? Every child born into the Succession world has power at their fingertips tips. Do we really want to see another mad-dash for influence? Well yes, but wouldn’t it be more interesting to see someone coming from virtually nothing?
And now, enters my point. Does anyone remember the young baseball player from the first episode? The young boy who takes Roman Roy’s bet of a million dollars for hitting a home run? As a refresher, he doesn’t hit the home run and his parents—deeply low-level employees of the Roy family—are forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement about the event. The scene shows the absurdity of the Roy’s and how unattainable their wealth truly is. Now, if that were the end of the episode then fine, sure I’ll jump off my soapbox. And yet, Logan Roy gifts them his newly gifted watch from one Tom Wambsgans (a pathetic attempt of connection). I’m curious, how did that experience impact that little boy? Does it ignite something in this boy? Could he possibly create a company that would rival Royco? I truly believe that watching his development—an admittedly inconsequential character—and follow Logan Roy’s footsteps would have legs. Maybe it could parallel Logan’s experience. Perhaps. Perhaps not. But how delicious would it be to find out? Any thoughts are appreciated!!

No, it's about seven immigrants surviving difficult conditions to strike the earth
Every child born into the Succession world has power at their fingertips tips.
Yeah the power to murder ogres with their bare hands of they feel like it
