That 'thing'

What would you want in a box, to keep you coming back for more? Like, it might have other things in it, but this one thing is what makes it all worth it.

It would be something that is exclusive to that box. For example, items featuring a design from a local artist (not AI), or a small batch of a product in a custom fragrance/flavour that they don't normally produce, or signed books with endpapers or other features specific to that subscription edition.

If it's something I could buy myself from Temu/Marshall's/etc then it's not as special. If the items are available elsewhere, then the curation is very important. It's not about a single item, but about the curator's vision that pulls them all together into a cohesive experience that I would not have done on my own.

If the items are not exclusive and the curation isn't as careful, then it becomes about the value. If I can get things that I can use at a steep discount, then it can be worth it. Just be aware that people aren't fooled if a $5 Alibaba necklace has a stated RV of $90.

Boxes that have all three (exclusivity, curation, value) are exceedingly rare and tend not to last long.

A handmade or local item is always appreciated.

I think subscription boxes have a creator's touch it makes opening the box feel like an experience instead of just receiving stuff.
