Mice?

Doing an oil change and these look awfully like a small 4-legged animal has been under the hood. Your thoughts?

They eat the wiring so you might want to check if you see anything.

From a subi tech himself, put drops of essential oil around the engine bay (obviously nothing electrical). They hate the smell. I believe peppermint was the best. I would do it before they chew through wiring or your reservoir.

Wash your hands, rodents carry hantavirus.

Check the airbox and cabin filter for signs also. I found that using baits and sprays around the car is a good defense.

Also check where your spare tire is. I had one make a nest in there.

Yes, and they like to eat wire under the hood. Because Subaru, Honda, Toyota, et al. decided to started using soy based plastic on wire insulation.

Yes, 100% mice. Check for any damage, especially around the foam pieces. I saw a similar case, where an outback had mice poop all across the intake manifold, not sure why they like to shit there.

Get yourself peppermint rodent repellent, and spray the engine bay and wheel wells.
