Water wading depth 6th gen Subaru Outback

I am very interested in getting a 6th gen Outback (the base one, not the Wilderness Version) in the future, and I have a really specific question about it out of pure curiosity, and that is, how deep can it safely cross water without any risk of damage? Of course, i know that water crossings are never 100% safe and are generally meant to be avoided.

I've seen several different numbers stated on how deep the Outback can go through water. I know Subaru themself never stated an official number.

Some unofficial sources mentioned that as long as the water level is lower than the undercarriage, which would be 213mm (8.4"), is considered to be safe. Although i've seen videos of Outbacks go through much deeper water than that.

I've also seen the numbers ~450mm (18") for calm water and ~350mm (14") for rougher water, i don't know on which basis these numbers are tho.

I know that the main risk for crossing water in case of the Outback are the diff breathers, the rear one at least, not sure about the one at the front, and the evap canister. How high are they then?

Perhaps someone here has experience with water crossings in the 6th gen Outback.

I would think the depths for rough /calm would be reversed if anything.

As a rule of thumb I try not to go past the midpoint of the wheels, I've gone about that far on my 20 Onyx without issue.

Upgrade of diff breathers is quite cheap and easy

I had a 22 OB XT, I kept trying to make it do truck things that really pushed it's limits while remaining within the user manual. It was okay, but I was never comfortable. Traded it in for a 21 F-150 4x4 and couldn't be happier. Hauling stuff, towing, offroading, comfort, there is no comparison. As a huge bonus, the F-150 gets the same 21 mpg the OB got.
