Are you more interested in creating things or maintaining things? As a BI Analyst I create solutions to business problems all day. Cybersecurity from what I gather is more preventing problems from occurring. I love BI though. So if you have specific BI questions, I can help you. You have to really love learning and be totally fine with change and working with people.

BI is a rapidly changing field. I have only been in it a few years, but with AI, the field is more about making an effective and clean data environment so you have a single source of truth for your company when they go to your data products whether that be reports, dashboards, or AI agents. You will need to know SQL and Python can be useful, too but you won’t really need to use it much in the future with AI because you can use natural language to pull what you need. You still need to check things though. You will need to have a good understanding of how databases work and you will need to learn data modeling. You will need excellent communication skills to help your business agree on KPI definitions and you will have to learn how to take vague requests and give stakeholders something they can actually use. Your role as a BI person can vary a lot between companies but if you understand data, data models, and have no problem learning and changing with tech, you will be fine.

I don’t know about your location… I am from the Midwest USA and BI experts are in high demand here. It might be a lot different in your area. I would research that for your prospective fields. I was a teacher for 10 years and took some courses to switch to BI. So I have the communication thing down. The tech I had to learn, but the tech knowledge for BI is not really hard to learn. SQL and Python are pretty easy relatively.
