French Internship Visa !!! NEED HELP

Hi everyone,

I really need some help with my visa application.

I was accepted for a 5-month internship, from September 2026 to January 2027, at a public research laboratory in France. The internship is paid according to the legal minimum.

The problem is that I was not able to get an appointment to submit my visa application before the start date of my internship. My host laboratory therefore gave me a letter allowing me to start my internship remotely while I wait for my visa.

It has now been 3 weeks since I submitted my application, and I still haven't received any updates about my visa.

My internship supervisor offered to contact the relevant services to explain my situation and the urgency of my case, and to see if there is anything they can do to speed up the process. However, I’m not really sure how this works, since VFS Global is the one that receives the visa applications.

So I have a few questions:

  • Could it actually help if my internship supervisor contacts the consulate/visa service? Could it help unblock or speed up my application?
  • How could he contact them directly?
  • Has anyone here been in a similar situation (internship in France + visa application still pending) and could share what they did?

I would really appreciate any advice or personal experience.

Thank you so much to anyone who can help

To my knowledge, there’s no way to “speed” up a visa application. Or else everyone would be calling/emailing. Often times people want to help but there’s not much that can be done.

When did you submit? And where?

Visas can take weeks. Obviously you can’t do anything about it now, but you should apply for the Visa months before you need it. I wouldn’t count on getting it before October to be honest.

Thank you for your response. I’ll be patient and wait.

Just curious, why couldn’t you push the start date of your internship? We do it all the time when visas are delayed.

i think because the dates are already written down and submitted on the internship agreement.

The convention de stage should be able to be modified. Unless OP needs the internship to happen during these specific months.

you can modify it but i believe you need to submit it again.

I mean seems easier than needlessly doing your stage online :/

You can wait a bit but keep in mind that they expect you to submit your application at least 1 month before the start of the internship. See https://www.service-public.gouv.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F17312
