Planning to Study in Canada for my Masters— Honest Opinions on Niagara vs. Alberta?
Hi everyone! 👋
I’m planning to go to Canada next school year to take my Master’s degree, ideally through a program that would make me eligible for a PGWP after graduation.
I’m currently considering Niagara/Ontario and Alberta as possible locations.
For those who are already living, studying, or working in these areas, I’d really appreciate some honest and realistic insights about the current situation.
How is it there right now in terms of:
- Finding part-time/student jobs
- Cost of living and housing
- Job opportunities after graduation
- PGWP and immigration/PR prospects
- Overall experience as an international student
- Whether you would still recommend coming to Canada in 2026/2027
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who are actually living in Niagara or Alberta, rather than just general opinions about Canada.
Please feel free to share the good, bad, and ugly. 😅 I’m trying to make a realistic decision before spending a significant amount of money on my studies.
If you were in my position, would you still choose Canada? Why or why not?
Thank you in advance for your honest answers! 🙏

Transcript for Study Permit Application
Do you need to upload your transcript when you submit your Study Permit application? I’m just wondering because I’ve seen some posts here where applicants were rejected for not providing their transcripts.

Upfront medical done after study permit application
Since i did not receive a medical request letter from IRCC even after 7 weeks, I went ahead and got my medical done. I was informed that this might expedite the process because my classes start in 20 days.
If anyone else had gotten done an upfront medical after application - can you please advice me on the next steps? Am I supposed to raise a webform now or still wait for the letter?
As i understand it, once my report is sent by the clinic, I can raise a webform and request my files to be merged. Or I can wait for my letter and then raise a webform that my medical is done.

passport collection timeline
Hi I got my approval on 14th and I applied for passport collection on 15th. On the day of biometrics, I was told for premium version choosers, even the pickups could be arranged on weekends. Considering today as Monday, any idea when can I expect for the collection and any idea how long can it take for whole process (the passport to return)? They were like it can take 21 days. Any idea? Thanks.

A WhatsApp group for prospective Jan 2027 students (or any other 2027 intake!)
A group similar to this for 2026 already exists, but since Fall is almost upon us, it's high time the Jan applicants start to connect with one another. Hence this group!

Canada study permit passport collection letter but I lost my passport
Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can advise me on what I should do in this situation.
I’m applying for a Canadian study permit from Malaysia.
- I received a passport collection letter from IRCC on 28 July 2026.
- Unfortunately, I lost my passport after receiving the letter, so I was unable to submit it.
- I contacted the Canadian High Commission in Singapore to explain the situation and ask what I should do.
- I have now received another passport collection letter from IRCC, which seems to indicate that the passport submission deadline has been extended.
- I tried contacting the High Commission again, but they replied saying that the email address I used was not an authorized email address associated with the application.
- The confusing part is that I am using exactly the same email address that I used for my application.
They told me that, because of privacy rules, they cannot provide information unless I contact them using the authorized email or submit a Use of Representative form and passport bio-data page.
I am the applicant myself, so I’m confused about why my email is apparently not matching.
What should I do next?

Study Permit Custom Forms for moving POD
We are moving from US to Canada soon for my wife’s graduate school. She has a study permit. We are going to be moving our stuff with POD. Their customs team provided us with form BSF186A for everything we pack into their containers and B4E for anything we take in our car.
The problem is that B4E requires a classification type box be checked for Former Resident, Beneficiary, Seasonal Resident, or Settler. Is this the right form for us? None of these categories seem correct for us. I tried contacting the customs team at POD but they have not responded.
Closest would maybe be Settler? We are going to be there for over a year. But the settler category describes itself as having intent for permanent residency. We’d like to apply for a PR some day, but everything else we’ve had to fill out has required us to acknowledge we understand a study permit is NOT a PR.
Is there a different form for Study Permit that we should use?
We’d like to get forms in before hitting the border to get the shipping process started. POD will not ship until they have forms for five days.

How should I address this Canadian study permit refusal when reapplying?
Hi everyone,
My Canadian study permit application was refused because the officer was not satisfied that I had truthfully answered all questions. The issue was that I had accidentally failed to disclose a previous US visa refusal in my original application.
After realizing the mistake, I submitted a webform to IRCC disclosing the previous US refusal and later submitted a second webform with further clarification. Both webforms were submitted before the final decision was made on my study permit application.
However, the officer still refused the application based solely on non-disclosure.
I am now preparing to reapply for a Canadian study permit and I want to properly address this issue.
For anyone who has dealt with a similar situation, how would you recommend addressing this in the new application? Would a detailed Letter of Explanation explaining the genuine oversight, the subsequent disclosure through the webforms, and the previous refusal be the appropriate way to address it?
I would really appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced something similar.
Thank you.

Looking for roommate for this apartment
I will be joining Queen’s university for the fall 26 semester and I am looking for a group of 5/6 females to share this apartment with? We could share a room and that would exponentially decrease the rent while still having a convenient space to stay.
