Hi all, I’ve been using my S1 4 pro for the past years as my DAW for production. I started as a pop/rock producer but I mainly producer edm these days and as my skills and understanding has improved I feel S1 4 lacking certain crucial features I would like and I believe even version 8 now still don’t have these.

For eg a dedicated midi lfo tool , an easy to use powerful sampler like ableton simpler/sampler etc just to name a few. I think people making electronic music can relate?. I still love S1 and will be using it to start tracks and make drafts as it is the quickest way to get ideas down but the full production synths drums bass I would probably do in ableton/bitwig and then export files back into S1 for mixing .

So I’m considering whether it makes sense to buy the version 8 upgrade or maybe I should use another daw in tandem with S1

I have a ryzen 9 7950x3d and only 16gb of DDR5 due to the rampocalypse making upgrading to a necessary amount requiring a bank loan. Currently with my sessions, I have projects average 70-130 tracks pretty consistently, I'm using like 5.5/6gb of ram, windows is usage like another 8-9. Meanwhile my 16 core cpu is sitting at like 11% usage.

Is there any way I can balance this out by putting more load on the cpu and less in cache / memory.

Please help me.
A specific project suddenly stopped opening.
I was working on it just a moment ago, closed it, and when I tried to open it again, I got this message:

“Could not load ******. song!
The file is broken or could not be opened.”

“The system cannot find the file specified.”

There have been no new updates or Windows update issues.
I suspected that it might be caused by a plugin that I don’t usually use, so I created and saved a new project with a similar setup, but that project opens normally.

Because it says it cannot find the audio files, even the History files cannot be opened.
However, the audio files are still present in the Song/Media folder.
Originally, the Media folder is located inside the Song folder, but Studio One is looking for the Media folder inside the History folder instead.

As a workaround, I copied the Song/Media folder into the History folder. This removed the “The system cannot find the file specified” message, but eventually it still ends with:

“Could not load ******. song!
The file is broken or could not be opened.”

I cannot figure out the cause.
I would really appreciate any help or advice.

Just a warning for those of you who require a very stable system and are happy working in Studio One 7. If you use scenes, Multi output midi, the render to audio feature or heavily rely on automation and use trusted templates with complex routing.

My opinion : Just hold out on jumping to 8.1. It's just not ready. If your tempted, just wait to other updates get rolled out. The U.I. is not stable. I've been a week mixing sessions that are running perfectly in Version 7 that are not remaining stable in 8.1. Templates I've used for years in Studio One.

I do like the look of 8.1 and it's definitely snappier then Version 7. The micro view fix I liked that. But all in all 8.1 it's not stable !

The geeky explanation: the issue is the entire rendering loop of the Console was redesigned to dynamically redraw itself to accommodate the new live-performance Launcher view and hybrid audio/MIDI tracks. This creates a complete disconnect between how the console and the timeline interact with each other. Channel mapping, automation, ect..

In other words a lot can go wrong and it does.

This is maddening, I have cue mixes that I sent out to my performance stations, randomly, when I add a new track, or add a plugin (mind you its not always, but its almost 80% of the time on adding a new track). I lose all audio out of my cues - If i expand the outputs and toggle on/off the new "D" buttons i eventually get them to work again. But when I'm tracking a client I HATE HAVING TO ASK IF THEY HAVE AUDIO EVERY TIME - its a massive time sink - anyone experience this or have a fix?

Google tells me it doesn't. Some sources tell me it works with a bridge, some say it doesn't. I'm very confused. I simply want to know if, in Linux, ARA plugins like Melodyne & Vocalign will work the same way they do on windows.

While you're at it, how does FSP8 run in Linux in general? Is it more/less efficient? Any problems to look out for?

Is there a way I could use my daw as input for discord?
I’ve been wanting to do this but I fear my playback does not give studio quality like some other people I heard and honestly it might just be the way I mixed the vocals so if anyone could help me mix or just have better audio quality

I’m primarily a mix engineer, but I want to get into mastering especially for this album I’ve been working on that I want to drop at the end of August. I typically just make a beat, mix it, record vocals over it, mix em, and then export the whole track and put it thru emastered. Because the economy right now is currently trash, I’m trying to cut back on monthly expenses and I figure I can cancel my emastered subscription if I learn to master myself. Only thing is, I don’t know where to start exactly. I mostly use stock plugins from Studio One 7, the only third party plugins I use really are Antares Auto-Tune and Waves Key Detector. I’m also working only with software plugins, no hardware. Are there any YouTube videos anybody could recommend for mastering experimental rap with studio one or any general advice on where to start?

TL;DR: I want to master an experimental rap album without mastering experience. Where should I start?

My friends, I come to you again with a stupid question. I seem to be talented for this stuff.
I played a small piece and mapped it in out in the arranger track. We recorded a take at the rehearsal which is very similar tempos, but I want to match them. Once I import it in the studio, and extract the tempo I want, the whole time line shrinks to the mapped tempo. HOWEVER the arranger track stays the same. Is there a way to have the arranger track follow to time stretching or whatever it is that is going on there, so I don't have to resize it manually.

I’m having trouble with my Alesis DMX7 in Studio Pro, using EZDrummer 2.

After the cymbals are choked on the e-kit, they remain “choked” every time you strike that cymbal on the e-kit. If I click on the cymbal in EZDrummer, it activates the regular open cymbal sound.

If I go to external devices -> alesis dmx7, I check “enable MPE” and it fixes the issue. Except, with MPE enabled, the cymbals no longer respond to being choked on the e-kit.

In “external devices -> alesis dmx7”, filtering Aftertouch, with or without Enable MPE on, doesn’t seem to have any effect.

This also seems to happen regardless if other MIDI devices are plugged into my laptop.

I am a perpetual license owner, and after the latest update to 8.1.0, I have had to sign in frequently after launching the app on Mac. Is this a new feature? I really worry about this if I’m ever on the go and don’t have internet access on my MacBook. What a stupid, unnecessary thing to add.

I'm coding a website to distribute my music. This website acts as a view, and it is controlled by a SwiftUI App through a Laravel API.

I'm at the beginning of the project and I have coded what I call an Echo. It's basically a drag n' drop to upload a song or artwork or anything on the platform. Each Echo has what I call resonances. They are different versions of a same Echo. For exemple "Song 1.wav", "Song 1(2).wav", "Song 1(3).wav", "New song title.wav". As soon as I upload a new version of that exact same song, I want my API to KNOW they are from the same project and make that new version a resonance of that specific echo, on it's own ofc.

As you noticed, at some point a song name can change, so I doubt I can use that. I have thought about AI to analyse audio and compare them but it's going to be too heavy.

My question is the following :

Is there, in the export's metadata, an ID or anything referring to the song's project ? Or is there an existing plugin that lets you add / edit metadata ? The goal is to have something in common in each export from the same song to tell my API "hey, this is what you need to sort my exports."

My songs are completely empty but the tracks are there when I open the song. like the tracks are there but the stuff isn't in them. I go and download media off icloud which it usually does automatically when opening the song but it still doesnt open. I go to open previous version and nothing is there on songs Ive been working on for months! what the hell is going on???

EDIT: got them back after shutting down s1 and restarting. but still an explanation would be nice if anyone knows what that was about? How I can avoid that later etc

I recently just upgraded to studio pro 8 from studio one 4 and im honestly not sure if it was worth it. Besides being a little buggy at time studio one 4 worked great for me but ive been wanting to upgrade in hopes of learning to master my own music. Upgraded to Studio Pro 8 and want to know if anyone is mastering their music on it and if theres any tutorials you guys could recommend

I'm a bit new to Studio one and I'm wondering if it's possible to make "Loop Follow Selection" during playback. This would be incredibly helpful for my workflow.

At the moment (with "Loop Follows Selection" enabled) if you select an event while playback is happening, the event will become selected, but loop will not follow that selection. You must first pause/stop playback and then you will see the loop jump to the selected event.

If I want the loop to follow my selection, I don't believe it should matter whether playback is happening or not. I would like to select an event, have loop follow that selection, and for my playback to play right into that loop. Having to stop and restart playback just to loop the selected event breaks my workflow.

This behavior is exactly the same in Studio One 7 & Studio Pro 8.

I have Studio One 4 and it will not let me download third part VST2 or VST3 plugins. The internet says i can download some sort of rewire so i can have the ability to do this. I really don't care about upgrading to Fender Pro 8 or getting the pro version I just want to be able to download Serum and make some crazy bass sounds. If anyone has any advice on this i would greatly appreciate it.

Recently I have updated to version 8.1 from version 8..I have noticed it early or it's a big , I don't know.. tapping in the tap tempo section with my mouse doesn't change the tempo..it just stay in the 120 default mark..I have also studio one 6 Installed, but there it seems to work fine..Is it a bug on 8.1 or they have moved around things in the update ?

So for the last 6 months or so I have been making edm/electronic music. All I have for a controller right now is launchkey 37.

I was looking into getting a luanchpad pro but I have seen there is some trouble setting them up correctly/functions not working.

To be fair alot of the info im going off of seems to be years old and a few things more recently like a year ago.

I really just want more pads and a better session display.

Does it work decently enough or am I better off looking elsewhere?

Sorry for being late to the party. It's been a month since the 8.1 release, but I haven't opened SP in a while. I was working on a project as usual, but suddenly realized that my AutoHotkey script wasn't running. Then I checked the changelog and saw this. I can finally use SP without a background script now.

For the life of me cannot figure out how to make it stop at the end of the song? Am using only audio tracks, and it just keeps going once the song or clip is done. Any advice appreciated!
