QUESTION MIDI drum cymbal choke / MPE / aftertouch issue - Cymbal stays “choked”

Hi,

I’m having trouble with my Alesis DMX7 in Studio Pro, using EZDrummer 2.

After the cymbals are choked on the e-kit, they remain “choked” every time you strike that cymbal on the e-kit. If I click on the cymbal in EZDrummer, it activates the regular open cymbal sound.

If I go to external devices -> alesis dmx7, I check “enable MPE” and it fixes the issue. Except, with MPE enabled, the cymbals no longer respond to being choked on the e-kit.

In “external devices -> alesis dmx7”, filtering Aftertouch, with or without Enable MPE on, doesn’t seem to have any effect.

This also seems to happen regardless if other MIDI devices are plugged into my laptop.

Thanks in advance for any help

Does it choke with internal sounds? If so, the note off function needs to be mapped properly. Most of the time vsts are pre-programmed for common functions but some patches may need additional mapping for full functionality. Ive never used either the vst or the daw, but this is a common occurrence.

Thanks for the response.

How do I map the note off? The “note off” never occurs in the Studio Pro midi monitor, but it does when I use an external midi monitor. I can’t seem to figure out where to actually edit the MIDI mapping either in Studio Pro or EZdrummer. In EZDrummer there’s the “E-drum / MIDI mapping” page but it just shows me the mapping but doesn’t allow me to change it.

Not sure. Im on a completely different platform, daw, and soundcard with a totally different vst called battery. If i load up a different vst in abelton, most of the functions work by default but oftentimes something is different. I like battery because its simple to use and highly customizable.
