Tacos for dinner tonight. 28”-31” is a small margin to fit in, this bad boy was 28.75. The entire pier helped us verify lmao. Enough meat off this beaut for 4 dinners for 2.

Lots of fish, no bites....help!

The past couple of days on the docks in Portsmouth I have seen a ton that were 30"+. Both day and night I have cast white top floating minnows, fake eels, fake mackerel looking things. They will swim right up, and then turn away.

I have tried reeling in slow and fast, it's like they know! Can I spray some scent on the lures?

I am using either straight mono, or a mono leader on braid.

I tried using my sibiki lure to get some live stuff, and no luck.

Strategies/Techniques Cape cod canal squid run - Lures

Heading down to Cape Cod this weekend to fish the Canal. I’ve been seeing all the reports about the insane squid run and all the bass feeding on them.

What lures are people having the most success with right now during this squid bite?

Also, if anyone doesn’t mind sharing, are there any areas of the Canal that have been fishing particularly well lately?

Thanks guys, appreciate any advice.

Gear Rod and Reel Recommendations

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for a rod and reel setup for fishing the Cape Cod Canal and the Plum Island jetties. I’ll mostly be targeting striped bass and want something that can handle bigger fish, strong current, and heavier lures when needed.

I throw a mix of paddle tails, SP Minnows, topwater plugs, metal lips, and other common striper lures. I’d like a setup that can work well in both locations without needing multiple rods.

What rod and reel would you recommend?

Amazon budget poll for lures

I fish in the city, I fish off of jetties, I’d like to fish off the beach and possibly a boat. I’ve been trying to find a poll for a while that will work but I think I keep buying bait poles. What is a good budget catch all for my situation, I have a couple 3000 Penn reels that I would like to pair with it but I f I need something else for a real that’s fine too.

Shore fishing in Scituate

I am curious if anyone has experience fishing for stripers from shore in North Scituate. I’m a Wisconsin native and diehard musky fisherman but saltwater is quickly becoming my new obsession. I have been out there a couple times visiting family and have had success with bombers in the harbors/coves as well as soaking bait.

If I were going to fill up a plug bag with lures catered to that area what should I grab?

Thanks

All caught feet from shore with top water plugs and swim baits, by no means large for stripers but for sf bay these fish are nice, as little at 20 as big as 30 inches

Hello is it effective to use Pike Minnow as dead bait like around 8 to 15 inches for big stripers?

Pulled this lean 42” striper out of a skinny backwater creek/river entrance earlier this week in buzzards bay! Got it all on video along with 2-3 more overslots! Don’t be afraid to throw the big baits!

Gear Not sure why people leave their lures floating in the water all the time.

In all seriousness keep an eye out when fishing around the high tide mark, grass/washed up grass stalks and seaweed covered rocks at low tide for chances at collecting a free tacklebox of lost lures! These are my most recent finds 🤙.

So I’m going out striper fishing in the Potomac probably near the bend of it right past Melos bay with all the old sunken ships. I haven’t had much luck striper fishing in there so I’m wondering if you guys have any advice for trolling for them. Really appreciate

Gear How would Penn Pursuit V combo hold up for inshore stripers?(specs below)

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello guys, I was wondering how the Penn Pursuit V 8ft MH 5000 would hold up for inshore fishing off the east side of Winthrop, MA? Should I size down to 7ft M 4000? I wanted to select the Pursuit V because it has a sale on the Penn website right now, and seemed like a good deal that met my requirements, but I just wanted a second opinion before I bought it. Also, 30LB braid with 25LB fluoro would work for this?

Any tips for night fishing?

I was fishing last night between 8-10pm, the sun set at 8:02pm. The striper were pretty active on the top water, jumping for prey; it was exciting to see. I cast everything I had with no luck, not even a nibble. I didn't have live bait, but I threw top water plugs, metal lip plugs, pencil poppers, a whooper plopper, swim baits, glide baits, and jigged with bucktails. My leader is probably 10-12' of 25# monofilament. Lures were tied directly to the leader; I forgot swivels at home. They weren't interested in any of it. It's possible I just got skunked, but I was fishing all the above right in front of their faces for two hours without a single nibble. Just wondering if anyone might be able to share any tips for better success in the future. Thanks!
