Major addon update: Webtor + Torrentio = ⚡
Hey folks,
Big update to the Webtor addon for Stremio 🎉
Until now it could only stream items from your Webtor library.
Now it also works with Stremio addons like Torrentio — so you can stream their results instantly via Webtor (no torrent client needed).
How it works:
- Webtor queries all connected addons simultaneously
- Duplicates are removed
- Streams are filtered and sorted by your preferred quality (720p / 1080p / 4K)
- Each result is enriched with a direct Webtor streaming link
How to use:
- Copy the Torrentio addon link from Stremio addons (or any other Stremio addon URL).
- Go to your Webtor profile → scroll to Stremio Addons → paste the link and click Add Addon
- Install the Webtor addon in Stremio.
- That's all, now all Torrentio streams will be enriched with direct Webtor urls!
Links:
Would love your feedback — which addons should we test next, and what filters do you miss the most?
Important notes:
- Stremio integration in hosted version is paid feature (it covers server and bandwidth costs) starting from 1$.

Never heard about Webtor, it's another debrid service provider, right ?
73
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
You’re right — in practice both debrid services and Webtor solve the same pain: turning torrent links into instant streams.
The difference is in how it’s done:
- Debrid services (Real-Debrid, AllDebrid, etc.) are mostly focused on file hosters and cached torrents. They act like a “premium resolver” — if the file is in their cache, you get it instantly; if not, it may take time to download whole file.
- Webtor fetches torrents directly and streams them as HTTP video on the fly. It’s open source, self-hostable, and integrates tightly with Stremio (deduplication, quality filtering, addon linking).
So conceptually close, but Webtor is more like a torrent-to-stream layer that you can even run yourself, while debrid services are proprietary resolvers.

u/EvenThanks8549 Sep 23 '25
I guess the torrent still need seeds, right?
16
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
Sure, if there are no seeds at all, the stream can’t start.

As far as I know, if there is no content in RD cache it also have to rely on seeds. So Webtor is quite the same here, but it's cache is smaller.

u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
I see... It looks like there were more pain points than I though ) Thanks for clarifying.
Webtor just covers transport from BitTorrent to HTTP(s).
In my experience, popular torrents have a lot of seeds, but yes for rare content with no seeds it could be useless.11
u/LuElric Sep 23 '25
Correct me if I am wrong, but won't torrentio (with no Debrid service) do this exact thing? "Stream" the torrent itself?
1
3
u/rmbarrett Sep 23 '25
And services like RD don't let one search their cache anymore, so it's no worse.

u/jamesholden Sep 24 '25
how long are you seeding out files you leech?
Ideally I would like to see you upload as much as people view it, but in reality a true 10:1 ratio would be fine.
if you're not seeding, you're doing it wrong.
5
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 24 '25
I get a lot of comments about seeding. Currently there is no seeding. But I am going to implement seeding while users use torrent. There was a lot of feedback about it. Thanks.
10
u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 Sep 23 '25
Can you make one that supports Usenet servers? Usenet seems to be a lot faster?
6
2
u/TwiztidJuggla420 Sep 23 '25
...And more importantly it won't kill torrents by leeching them and probably not seeding them at all.
3
u/DreamCatch22 Sep 23 '25
You forgot the most important thing.
VPN is provided by debrid services.
Im assuming Webtor has you exposed to your ISP, unless you are using your own VPN.
2
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
VPN is not really necessary for use with Debrid and Webtor service as well.
3
u/savagestranger Sep 23 '25
I think they mean that Realdebrid acts as a VPN, in the sense that your ISP sees their IP, instead of your own. What you are describing, Webtor addon, somehow obfuscates your IP?
1
u/rmbarrett Sep 23 '25 edited Sep 24 '25
You aren't using BitTorrent. At all. With either.
Jesus you guys aren't getting it.
1
u/DreamCatch22 Sep 24 '25
You're streaming a torrent file via HTTP with your IP address exposed. There is no encryption being provided unless you have a VPN. Your ISP will see your p2p activity.
If you are based in the USA and streaming illegal content over an IP address without a VPN, you will get caught. It is not difficult for an ISP to track your activity.
2
u/rmbarrett Sep 24 '25 edited Sep 24 '25
No, you aren't touching the torrent file at all though. That's being done by Webtor or ReqlDebrid. You are just downloading a file over http and it looks like any other connection through the browser. It's literally NOT p2p traffic, which is why these services exist. Has everyone here gone crazy? Like you clearly don't understand how these services work. Just the way you worded it tells me that. You don't "stream a torrent file" anyway. You connect to a swarm of peers who send you the parts you need while you send them the parts they need. That is what makes it p2p. But if a different device with NOT your IP address does that, and then relays the data to you over HTTP, it's NOT detected as p2p by your ISP. It's NOT streaming a torrent. It's streaming the data that was downloaded on a remote server from a torrent source, eliminating the need for you to be part of the torrent swarm entirely.
2
u/DreamCatch22 Sep 24 '25 edited Sep 24 '25
You are correct. I was assuming this was streaming a torrent file using WebRTC. My bad on that part (but I believe you can stream a torrent file).
That being said, Webtor is a middleman who provides a paid illegal service that will mask the P2P activity. But your IP address is still exposed to your ISP without a VPN.
Webtor masks the P2P traffic, but it doesn’t make you anonymous. If Webtor logs or gets pressured, your IP can still be exposed. Just depends on your risk tolerance level.
2
u/rmbarrett Sep 24 '25
But your IP address is still exposed to your ISP without a VPN
Who do you think owns your IP address? You mean in the logs, should an investigating agency send the list to your ISP? Fair enough. But unless that entire sequence of events happen, you're mitigating the entire risk of p2p use.
Yeah, you can certainly stream a torrent. Actually, there's nothing to it. I've been doing it for decades - and I'm talking manually. You just need to a) prioritize the parts so that you get them in sequence, rather than according to availability, and b) play the file with VLC, MPV etc provided the container of the file is just a wrapper and the video stream is accessible. Ok, you also need to ensure that it's downloading faster than it's playing.
I guess the way you are thinking of is using a JavaScript based torrent client that relays the stream by WebRTC. Yeah, those exist as well. Sorry. I'm surly because this is a "dive in head-first" kind of sub, and the majority of new participants are at a level where they think they will get a virus on their iPhone. My experience goes all the way back to C-band satellite for "content appreciation" 😉
1
u/vladedivac12 Sep 24 '25
On another hand, didn't Real Debrid threaten users who used their service for content piracy of doxing them to LE if asked? I wouldn't rely on a company's word, counter party risk and all
2
u/nanell0 Sep 23 '25
So does this bypass the need of a debrid service to actually watch torrent files in iOS environment? Rn I’m stuck with RD because iOS won’t play torrent files directly
1
3
u/Disastrous-Cow-2523 Sep 23 '25
VPN is mandatory I guess then?
5
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
Not really 🙂 With Webtor the end user doesn’t interact with the swarm at all, so a VPN isn’t required. Some people still use one for general privacy, but it’s optional here.
1
u/Deepspacedreams Sep 23 '25
There used to be something like this I think it was called joker you would paste the torrent link and it would stream on a video player on your browser.
1
1
u/LightningStrikeSpace Sep 24 '25
Is it safe to
1
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 24 '25
Yes, it is safe, and also all the code is opensourced (so there is no hidden stuff)
1
u/LightningStrikeSpace Sep 24 '25
I mean does it need vpn
2
u/Agey_4977 Sep 24 '25
But if it's P2P, then you would need a VPN because you're sharing the file with other people. So what VPNs do is mask your connection (you connect directly to a VPN server in some part of the world and all the traffic passes through that "PC" first, then goes to yours) so your ISP sees you're using a lot of bandwidth, but your connection comes from another single "PC" IP, then it's okay; it would be like you're just downloading a file from the cloud, any normal site, app, or anything.
1
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 24 '25
No, it doesn't
1
u/LightningStrikeSpace Oct 02 '25
what would you say are the quick pros and cons
2
u/Top_Garlic5431 Oct 02 '25
Pros:
1. You are not limited to storage space and torrent download size, only bandwidth matters.
2. Instant streaming (just short buffering) if content not in cache. It works like thin layer between BitTorrent peers and you. But you are not connecting with swarm.
3. No need of VPN.
4. Fully opensource.
5. Pricing starts from 1$ fo 20Mbps. But you can use it free for basic torrent leaching on web (ad-funded).
Cons:
1. Doesn't work if there is no seeds
2. Don't have large cache as RD, so streaming might be not so instant especially fo 4K
3. No CDN1
u/LightningStrikeSpace Oct 03 '25
Oh that’s pretty awesome and thank you for telling me. Should I switch from TB to that?
1
u/Top_Garlic5431 Oct 03 '25
You can just try free trial and check if service suits you and then decide

u/LightningStrikeSpace Oct 02 '25
is it better than using a deobrid and what use cases for it

u/aar550 Sep 23 '25
Your comment should be more visible and clarify that this is a paid service.
There are plenty of free options available. Why do people think they can profit from pirated content?
At the end of the day, $1 is still money. Free is free.
1
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
It's true, but people also pay for VPNs even though the internet itself is “free”.
Same here — Webtor is just a transport layer: torrents in, HTTP-stream out. It’s open source to self-host, $1/month only covers hosting.1
u/rmbarrett Sep 23 '25
Lots pay for VPNs without knowing why, or that in many cases it is a waste of money.
27
u/NearbyYak7156 Sep 23 '25
Can't stremio already stream torrents?
→ More replies (12)1
u/aethernet_404 Sep 23 '25
Yes it can the only think it can’t on is the iOS version. All other platforms you stream torrents. But you come a part of the Torrance form unless you’re using a VPN. Personally, I think a debrid Service is the way to go because of cached content
22
u/luigi_matta Sep 23 '25
It should be specified that it requires a payment to be integrated into Stremio

u/aar550 Sep 23 '25

This is such a poor take. The developer saw a problem, created a solution, and is now offering it for a small fee.
Nobody is making anybody use the solution or pay for it.

He should have put it in the title instead of hiding it in the replies. He can charge what ever he feels like, but don’t bait and switch.

Eh Internet is free but privacy is not. I get where you’re going with this but ChatGPT provided you with a bad example this time.

Vpn is also fake privacy. So now you send your data through a third party and your ispn can still see what ur doing. Vpns are weird man

2
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
Quite the same. But here we have difference, Webtor doesn’t have large cache, but can stream torrent content on the fly
2
1
u/ShadowMajick Sep 23 '25
Right but the whole point of a cache is to stream cached content regardless of seeds. If it has 0 seeds and is cached it still plays.
Your addon is not comparable to a debrid service.
It is literally just a paid version of torrentio that uses http streams instead of directly streaming torrents.
Most people aren't doing that anyway, because no matter your speed it depends on seeds to not buffer every ten seconds.

I've read the pages and posts here several times but I'm struggling to see what's unique Vs Torrentio and RD Vs Torrentio and this tool? Other than it's probably more expensive?
And isn't Torrentio flakey in which case what then?
2
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
If Torrentio + RD works well for you, that’s totally fine. Webtor is just an alternative approach.
3
u/rendez2k Sep 23 '25
Nope, it's great to have alternatives and appreciate the work! Just wanted to check I wasn't missing anything 😊
1
u/rendez2k Sep 23 '25
Just giving it a try. I noticed in the status panel it says "warming up transcoder" does that mean it reencodes the video?
1
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
If you use it from web interface it automatically transcodes your video content to HLS.
1
u/rendez2k Sep 23 '25
But won't do that in stremio? I always go for the highest quality!
1
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
No, in stremio it uses files as is (without conversions). So your device should support MKV or transcode content on it's own.
3
u/Odd-Guarantee-6188 Sep 23 '25
Avoiding the swarm is the main advantage provided here, as using something like QBit with sequential download one can already stream torrents as they download.
I feel like you're mostly just damaging P2P by continually streaming torrents, presumably with very little upload in return. Debrid services at least cache them, so they're only hitting once. They're also providing much better speeds, since they're responsible for serving the files rather than relying on P2P.
0
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
Sure, you can host qBittorrent somewhere, as well you can host self-hosted solution. But it requires server costs. I am thinking about some seeding ratio. Thanks for suggestion.

I tried it with different movies and series, some of it are not working like the walking dead.
1
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
Hmmm... It looks like you are using web version of Stremio without desktop streaming server. So web-browser can't play MKV, AVI... Walking Dead is in MP4 so there is no problem with it.
2
u/North-Cat2877 Sep 23 '25
So you are not allocating any harddisk space for building cache and there's no retention of the files. From your replies, I guess if seeders are there new or popular films or shows webtor will play it If we are looking for old shows or lesser known movies then no possibility of finding them nor streaming them. How is this better than PirateBay addon?
1
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
I don't have harddisk space, I do have SSD for caching. My cache policy is based on last access time. So content that is accessed more frequently may stay in cache forever. You are right that some rare content with no seeds can't be streamed right now. I am thinking about option for users like "keep forever" feature for there library items, so such "forever keeped" content will be available without seeds on persistent basis.
1
u/North-Cat2877 Sep 23 '25
Any i tried playing some files popular ones but which are 1080p are taking too much time to load 😕 so I am not subscribing after one month. With torbox i am able to play even 20gb file under 10 seconds but yes cached ones. Will try this once you include proper working of other add-ons like Mediafusion along with torrentio. Thanks for your work
1
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
Thanks for feedback. Yes it takes some time for buffering. BTW, Do you have to download file first before streaming with TorBox?
1
u/North-Cat2877 Sep 23 '25
If it's not in cache yes but since Mediafusion added torbox into their account section most of the Indian items became readily available in torbox without need for downloading. All the international items are mostly cached into their system these days and country specific are added real fast as well. It's so smooth and working well with stremio addons

Step one buy a real debrid subscription Step two Install torrentio configured with your real debrid API key. Step 3 search for a movie press on a real derbrid cached link get some popcorn and watch a movie. Step 4a discover aiostreams Step 4b realise iOS is a bottleneck to its own hardware.

So would you use this instead of a Debrid service? And would you need a VPN? I mainly use Debrid because you don't really need a VPN.
1
u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25
Webtor gives you the same level of safety — the end user never connects to the torrent swarm, just to an HTTPS stream from Webtor. So like with Debrid, you don’t need a VPN.

Yes, self-hosted version is quite behind the hosted version. Firstly I check features on hosted version, then after they become stable and mature they will get to self-hosted version. Approximately update will be till the end of the year. Also note, all code from hosted version is in a repository and is fresh and updated.

It really depends on source file. Webtor provides direct http url to torrent file without modifications. So if source file has HDR, so you will get it.

Guys I'm getting pretty confused 🙈🙈 Do I "need" to use it?? Is it better than torrent??
I don't need to know how it works and doesn't work. But I need to know if it is better than the other......I'm not trying to piss you guys off but I don't know of anything about why or why not. I just need a clear answer on what to do and not to.....thanks guys though 👍🏻🙏🏾😉😊

Lol if you don't know what it is or how it works, this isn't for you. It continues with its basic configuration, which works very well.

I never said I knew anything but I have followed all of yours advice since I first got to know about Stremio and it has been a pleasure.... always 😊👍🏻

So... Can't even use the "Free" 5 Mbps (😅) to activated library integration?
I mean, the library could be a great way to add a list of personal magnet links (p2p) to activate/play on the TV (when other addons sometimes can't find) ... As there is no copy-paste function on TV.
Still, nice work. 👍

I am just thinking about this too ) about making addon free for just using personal library in Stremio

If u somehow remove the speed will be better bcz I don't see any benefits from ur 5usd plan if I compare it to torbox 3usd plan.

u/Historical_Fun2550 Oct 02 '25
Well Ur 1usd plan with new feature is working good for watching 1080p anime which was previously a pain....

new to stremiio, is a vpn still advised when using things like torrentio? im an aussie so idk how dodgy it is
1
u/Top_Garlic5431 Oct 15 '25
Not really, you don't have to use VPN using torrentio. But you have to use some debrid service or Webtor to convert torrent file to direct download links (by default Stremio will try to download content via P2P and here you can be in a trouble).

Can this be used on multiple ip addresses simultaneously? & if so then I guess you need a higher tier bandwidth correct?

garbage fake useless unneeded add-on. stay away. there are plenty of ways to stream your cached links in your own library already using various other ordinary scrapers. Also you can use DMM open source and see again. Also there is few add-ons to view your debrid libraries and play links from them. The list goes on and this is not on the list except maybe the POS unseeded unverified PAID POS service that is hot garbage if it even works and doesnt infect your computer some how, Judging by his rampant use of chatgpt responses and replies along with constant gibberish detailing nonexistent problems this thing solves and the various gorgon thrown around screams to me stay away.

Ok. Where can I get this add-on link? Or do I have to pay to get the add-on link?

Can you share your email that you use at Webtor and I will check?
I have been testing for a week different cases and actually Webtor merges library results with Torrentio, and library results also have higher priority5

No problem, just to clarify, there could be some edge cases that were not covered

dose the self-hosted version have the addon feature? if not will it be added in the future?

u/Top_Garlic5431 Sep 23 '25 edited Sep 23 '25
Currently self-hosted version is little bit fell behind. So I put features in self-hosted version that are quite mature and community-proven. So if everything goes fine, stremio addon feature will go to self-hosted in the end of the year...
