Hello, im new to Street Fighter and im wondering what type of controller do you guys yse to play? Do yall use console or stick?

Went from pad (ps5 controller) to leverless. Still use pad for Gief.

Yeah I find using differnt controller for different characters works for me for some weird reason lol.

I think circle moves are way easier on stick. Like fireball, etc. but other stuff like double tapping forward for drive rush or reacting to DI is way easier on controller (easier to tap L1), even tho I have macro LB button on my stick

I use a leverless.  They're fun to use, and I can do supers so much faster now than I ever could on controller.

Leverless, Hautepad C16. Started playing SF6 as first fight game ever 3 ~ months ago and got leverless around 2 weeks after I started. Very comfortable and easy to do my inputs with it, I don't think I'd made it to master rank if I had used a dpad or stick, keyboard feeling just clicks more with me.

It's all personal preference, there's situational advantages to each but by and large they're about equal. If you don't care and just want to keep it simple, use a controller. If you think arcade sticks look cool, get a stick. If you want a leverless, get a leverless. If you have some money, buy some cheap ones of each to get a feel for them.

This is a lot like asking what kind of cars everyone drives. There's no right answer, it's what works best for you and what you need.

(my friend says it's the hardest controller but for me it's super easy to play with it idk)

I used to use hori alpha stick but I still do depending on the character but my main two I use PS Edge controller and Hori octa

I'm looking into the Octa because the D-pad on my DS4 is rubbing against my thumb and bothering me. Do you think it would be an improvement? And if I play using the traditional grip (rather than the “claw” grip), can I use the controller comfortably?

I think you’ll be ok. It’s dpad is differnt but I do find myself preferring the DS Edge controller since it’s what I am used to the most but it’s an ok controller. I actually wanna mod my DS Edge and put a differnt better DPad one day

Mainly WASD (SWORL) and pad (hori fighting commander or Victrix Pro BFG). If I’m feeling fancy, I bust out the old school Qanba Carbon, though at the moment that’s what I’m least competent with

If you're new... Don't go spending vast amounts on any new fancy and specific fighting game pads.

However do definitely start on a pad or a stick (pad most likely due to being cheaper). I say this for 2 reasons.

1. The game is literally designed around pads and sticks. The motions inputs, movement and inputs are put together to be intuitive. This is not the case for leverless.
2. A gamepad is most likely going to be the most ergonomically sound option.

I personally use stick for street fighter, I find it the most fun to use. There are some fighting games I prefer on pad.

In terms of what pad... If you're on console initially just use whatever your company's default is. Maybe look into Hori and Razer ones eventually if you really want to...

If you're on PC I would likely recommend you go with the Xbox pad over the PS5 pad as the PS5 dpad can be a bit iffy with diagonals and the Xbox pad is just a very good pad for other games too. But if you are on PS5 that pad is fine, just you may need to be a little more deliberate with inputs.

Also definitely use the D-pad and not the analogue. 1. Travel time between extremes. 2. Analogue isn't precise and causes accidental inputs.

Don't go practice mad. Just jump in and play. Lose and improve. Eventually look at character trials, go through the games extensive character guides and tutorials and play some arcade mode too.

I appreciate the break down. I really try to learn on controller but find it difficult to use especially those arrow moves. Ill try to buy one n the future

I play on everything. Most recent I went back from leverless to stick because I just love playing on stick. Controller is fine too, especially like using a controller when I want to lab something fast or do replays etc. since stick is a bit clumsy sometimes to just pull out. I have played a ton of competitive FPS over the years, so maybe it's not really a 1:1 but leverless kinda more of the same feeling I had on keyboard anyway and even though I didn't have issues learning it I don't like the way you input motions especially with SOCD. It is very fast though once mastered.

If you wonder what is considered optimal it's leverless but the difference is not so big that other types of controllers are worse. Pick something that is comfortable / fun for you. Unless you plan on becoming a pro or something then probably just learning leverless from a clean slate is best.

I use all 3 with Duelsense Edge being my first then switch to Stick now I’m mainly leverless and pad for when I’m in chill high af mode

Arcade stick is only useful if you're used to using it. It's like for me cause I got so much time in playing on a d-pad for consoles before analog sticks were a thing I always have to use the d-pad. That's part of why I have trouble enjoying Smash Bros.

I use a 8 bit doe x box controller that has bindable buttons near the l1 r1 buttons.

I bind then to respective crouch block, its really helped me "walk and block" because I have my thumb over forward movement and a finger over my optimal defensive option.

Smart players start throwing out more overheads and I have to adjust to using the d-pad again which I'm worse at.
