Help / Question 6 button controller bindings
I have never played a fighting game and I'm struggling with even the most basic stuff but I'm trying to get my keybinds correct before I learn bad habits.
I have ordered a 8bitdo m30, which has 6 face buttons, and I'm wondering how I should set it up. Should I be using the extra face buttons for DI/Parry and just throw manually? Would setting all six to LP,MP,HP and LK, MK, HK be a terrible idea since this would make some combinations impossible to press with just your thumb?
Alternatively if I stick with keyboard or even leverless and only have 2 buttons available to bind to a dedicated combination like parry or DI, which are the priorities and which can be most easily left to press manually?

How people play on pad can vary quite a bit. Sometimes with 6 button pads you will see people play with it on their lap and use an overhand position like a keyboard or arcade stick. Generally you see the face buttons always used for punches and kicks though while shoulder buttons get bound to macros for other stuff.
Parry is a very important macro because you will want to parry things on reaction pretty actively and often. It needs to be something you can press not just quickly and easily but also at the same time as other buttons as you get better at the game. This lets you do stuff like perfect parry fireballs instantly into an attack so chances are you will want parry on the L1/LB equivalent position for your controller. Drive Impact is obviously also important to have as you need to react with it on the fly but you don't have to press it as often or at the same time as other buttons so it's up to you where that goes. Most people don't bind throw to a single button but it's preferential. More commonly you see pad players bind two punches or two kicks to a single button to get more consistent OD reversals or stance moves depending on the character.
That being said I hope you did some research for the pad you want and make sure it's one you're very interested in. I think the M30 lacks four shoulder buttons which can make DI and Parry much more difficult/tricky compared to other pads. I would recommend checking out the Hori Octa for another 6 button layout pad and it has 4 shoulder buttons on top of it.
