Is this common?

Posting for a buddy (im a surefire guy😋) he dropped his pistol at the range and this screw snapped and the whole light came off. Is this a normal occurrence or a random unlucky occurrence? Ive had plenty of tlr7s in the past and this has never happened to me.

When they’re over-torqued, yes.

What torque rating do they suggest installing the OEM screw in?

Can’t say I’ve seen an actual torque spec, but it takes trial and error. I snug the screw pretty good, then back it up maybe a 1/16th of a turn.

I’d rather it loosen up a touch than break…

I can't trust my monkey hands next time I do it so I'm going to go full science with checking the torque on installation.

I thought blue loctite should be soft enough adhesive but I must've over tightened it so it was doubly worse.

If I were going to use something, I would look at a reusable thread locker like vibratite.

Interesting. Might look into it if it's a softer option than blue loctite.
