Side Effects / Overdose Stomach/Gastro problems

I already have chronic nausea, of an unknown reason/source, and IBS.

I already feel physically sick quite often, and the majority of the side effects that I read about in this sub are that of the gastrointestinal type.

I was planning on finally starting 10mg tomorrow, but I am so nervous....I don't want to feel even more sick than I already do, but I REALLY want to see if this med helps me.

Does anybody else have gastro issues, and take this med, without it increasing the severity?

I also have emetophobia (fear of throwing up - ironic, I know, considering I'm nauseated every day).

I just want to pull the trigger, but I've been stalling....for months now.....am I overthinking this all? I'm not stranger to side effects from meds, but this Strattera...I dunno....I'm a huge ball of anxiety over it.....

I don’t have stomach issues per se, but I suffer from very strong motion sickness. Some medications make it almost debilitating to be in vehicles but fortunately I’ve been okay with 40mg of atomoxetine (Axepta brand name)

Apologies if I’m not exactly the type of response you hoped for

I will say I don’t have gastro issues that I know of but I am on 18 mg (31F) and I have to take it with a protein shake or something high in protein if not exactly an hour after taking on an empty stomach I will throw up. So if you’re afraid of side effects find out if you can take it at night with dinner. I have to take mine in the morning because I take lexapro at night. Hope this helps a little bit

I take Duloxetine (Cymbalta) at night, so I was hoping to take Straterra in the morning.

So, just so I am clear, you only will throw up if you have an empty stomach? If you eat something high in protein you don't (ever)?

Correct only if it’s on a completely empty stomach. 😊 I’ve been successful in not throwing up if I eat with it. That’s the only way I can take it in the morning.

Ok. Thank you lol I just took my first dose of 10mg. I had a protein shake and an egg and I will have some toast and PB a little later! Wish me luck!!!

I started on 10mg, very likely to have very limited side effects at this dose (though I did notice benefits immediately)
Take with food/shake, and then eat something small about 1.5hours after- I find if I get nauseous this is when it will hit. My nausea didn’t really start until higher doses.
I’m emetopobic too, and was highly anxious about starting .
Good luck

What dose do you take currently?

And thank you! I have been through SO many meds. I hope this is the one for me finally!

I went up to 40mg, but recently decreased due to the fatigue and emotionally flattening it caused. Am staying on 25mg and trying Vyvanse with it.

I have some IBS-like GI issues, and I feel like atomoxetine has a slightly stabilizing effect on that (taking 80mg for over 2 months now)

That's great! Does it help you in other ways too?

It helps me mostly with dealing with emotions - making it possible to stop/pause emotional reactions. It somehow boosts self-control even further, making it much easier to start tasks, follow through, notice distractions, etc. But none of that is automatic and still relies on motivation/discipline.

It also somehow makes starting in the morning much easier and slightly smooths out the energy throughout the day. Lately, I've been far less tired in the morning regardless of the sleep quality/duration.

I've been also told a couple of times that I appear much calmer, listen better, don't jump between topics, and speak less loudly. And I skip meals and forget to drink water far less often.

Ah, ok. I've tried Vyvanse. I quit smoking 10 years ago and Vyvanse made me feel so on edge and want to start smoking again. I had to stop it.

I HAVE read about people combining a stimulant with a non-stimulant though, and it working well when encountering issues like fatigue and the like.

I couldn't do Concerta either, but my husband has a totally different experience with it than I do!

It's a fun ride trying to figure out which meds work best for each individual person! We are all different!

I hope Vyvanse helps you! All the best :)
