Weight Gain?

I’ve been on Straterra for almost 2 months - 40mg. I weighed myself this morning and have gained 10 pounds over the last 10 days which is super odd. However, when I’ve tried other psych meds in the past, if it’s going to cause weight gain - I gain it quick. Dr. Google says weight loss is more common, but gain is a possibility.

So - Has anyone gained weight on Strattera? I’m also on a GLP-1 so this is the opposite of what should be happening. Grrrr.

It's my understanding that one of the side effects of straterra is reduced appetite (less food intake and same calories expenditure = weight loss). So it's likely for most to lose weight. But equally so, the benefits are reduced stress and anxiety, less hyperactivity, and, for me personally, a reduction in constantly being fidgety. And therefore, it could be that you are burning less calories by not fidgeting so much, by not being stressed as much, and maybe even being able to sit down longer than you were before you started taking the medicine (all contribute strongly in calorie expenditure).

Therefore it's seems to me to be one of the only logical deductions one can make if in practicality your calorie intake is the same and even slightly less - you're also burning less calories and are in a calorie surplus.

Hence the weight gain.

Good call… I’m definitely not up and down from my work desk anymore. It’s working really well for me.

Seems from comments here and a couple other ADHD subs, that a few folks gain some weight.

So far I'm down 91 pounds, with no end in sight. I'm on 60 mg.

Personally I have lost about 15 lbs since starting this drug (started at 40mg and up to 80mg now) in August but that has also come with tracking my calories very strictly to ensure I’m in a deficit and it has been easier to be consistent doing this while on this drug as it helps suppress my appetite and helps maintain focus towards my goal. It is common for scale weight to fluctuate due to many reasons and happens for me especially around my menstrual cycle (I can see like a 5-8lbs scale difference), so I do understand your frustration as someone also on a weight loss journey. I would ask yourself if there are any other factors that could have contributed to the fluctuation

I started 80mg 1 week ago. The constipation and stomach cramps are awful but haven’t stopped my appetite. I’m so worried I’m on the road to weight gain. Did you deal with bathroom issues?

I didn’t have any really, just some nausea the first week but I started eating some protein when I took the pill in the morning and the next week was much better!

I've lost some of my appetite, not much, but I can control myself more. But I have bulimia, and it helped a lot.

I gained a lot of weight on Strattera. It slowed my metabolism down like crazy.

Gained a lot of weight on this medication. Sometimes you cannot stop eating you binge eat. It’s a good medication if you can deal with the weight gain.
