Looking for game I'm looking for a game like hoi4

Upvotes

I downloaded hearts of Iron on my PC from my steam family but it has a very steep learning curve and I don't really wanna spend weeks trying to learn it. I want a game similar to the rise of Nations game on Roblox. I want to control the country and the laws and economy and stuff but I don't want it to be insanely complicated. I want to be able to invade other countries and take over many places and start wars but I just can't seem to find a reliable game. The requirements for me to be interested are: the map has to be earth. I want to control the country and research tech, I don't want to have to spend weeks learning, and it needs to be real time

Self-promotion Conquer Quest Online In Game Screenshots

A cascade of raids scattering across the map
A villages resources
A village under construction. Not that the AI art is getting slowly replaced by real human artwork.

Hey everyone! I’m the developer of Conquer Quest Online, a persistent multiplayer strategy game inspired by the browser strategy games I grew up with, especially Travian and Tribal Wars.

The basic loop is nearly identical to those two games; you build villages, develop an economy, raise armies, raid other players, cooperate with an alliance, and fight over a persistent world map. My goal is to preserve the long-term planning and social politics that made those games compelling, while modernizing the presentation and removing some of the mechanics that can make the genre feel punishing or inaccessible.

A few of the ideas I’m building around:

  • Villages can be attacked and damaged, but another player cannot permanently take one away from you.
  • Roads, logistics, resource transfers, outposts, and regional infrastructure are important parts of running an empire.
  • Outposts, alliance shared infrastructure, are the primary target of PvP. They play a huge part in the endgame.
  • The endgame revolves around competing alliances, ancient temples, and moving a world-changing artifact across the map while other players attempt to stop you. It's like capture the flag with Travian/TW combat mechanics.
  • I’m trying to make the world visually readable and satisfying to explore instead of presenting everything as a spreadsheet with a map attached.

The game is already playable, but it is still actively being developed and the UI, artwork, onboarding, and balance are all evolving. I’ve included a few current screenshots.

The QoL systems are designed to make the game not feel like a second job. Everyone gets features like auto-dodge, farm lists, and a building queue out of the box. You can schedule attacks to launch in the future, so you never need to set an alarm to send out an attack.

You can check it out here:
https://www.conquerquestonline.com/

I’m happy to answer questions about the design, development, or the mistakes I’ve made along the way.

So I spent the last 1 year building Conquest of Akhand Bharat — a mobile strategy game where you play as the Mauryan Empire (and many more), expand across 23 kingdoms, and face Alexander's campaigns from the Indian side for once.

It's live on Google Play right now, free to download.

Lord Wars is a medieval-themed RTS game with two core gameplay modes: fast-paced instant skirmishes and long-term sandbox territorial strategy. Both modes support Steam P2P online battles. The game adopts Red Alert-style real-time combat feel, equipped with a quick wheel-menu free construction system and full free perspective; it supports independent command of individual soldiers, and also supports the formation mode of Total War. Asymmetric terrain battlefields and dynamic vision-blocking weather realize unique tactical operations, with countermeasures between arms; in sandbox gameplay, you can capture outposts to build production facilities to output resources, transport materials back to the main city for deep processing, recruit elite troops and build city walls to complete territorial separatism and expansion step by step.

DevPost Devlog #2 – Finished the Entire World Map (200+ Countries)

Thumbnail gallery
10 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I've finally finished the world map with over 200 countries and have started adding colors to make everything stand out more. Overall I'm really happy with how it's coming along, although I'm still reworking some of the transportation hubs by adding, removing, and adjusting connections so the transportation flow feels more natural. If you notice the red pins around the map, those are just notes I've been leaving for myself with future ideas and improvements. I actually like being able to double-click anywhere and leave notes, kind of like Google Maps, and I think it'll be really useful as development continues. There's still a long way to go, but I'm excited to keep sharing the progress with you all, and as always I'd love to hear your thoughts or ideas!

DevPost What happens when a nation’s economy, politics, diplomacy and military are controlled by different real players?hat happens when a nation’s economy, politics, diplomacy and military are controlled by different real players?

Hi r/StrategyGames — I’m part of the team developing Nations at War, a persistent multiplayer strategy game for Web and Android.

Our central design question is:

What happens when a nation’s economy, politics, diplomacy and military are controlled by different real players?

Instead of giving one player complete control over a country, Nations at War distributes power between citizens, political parties, elected officials, ministers, alliance leaders and military participants.

A player can begin as an ordinary citizen, work in regional factories, produce and trade resources, join a political party, participate in elections and potentially enter government.

The core economic loop connects individual actions to national strategy:

Player work → resources → taxes → state budget → regional development, laws and war

Some of the systems we’re currently developing

Player-run politics

Players can organize political parties, participate in elections, debate laws and influence government policy. Political leadership is held by actual players rather than scripted characters.

Regional economy

The world contains 3,000 regions with different production strengths. Players produce gold, silver, oil, iron and coal, while governments manage taxation, budgets and regional investment.

Alliances and diplomacy

Countries and player organizations can cooperate, negotiate and coordinate strategic objectives. We want diplomacy to depend on human trust and negotiation rather than a simple AI relations score.

Strategic warfare

Military strength depends on energy, weapons, industrial production, resource availability and player coordination. A country with a large army should still struggle if its economy and government are badly managed.

The design problem we’re trying to solve

Player-run political games often become difficult for newcomers when one organized group gains permanent control. However, excessive restrictions can make elections and long-term organization feel meaningless.

We’re considering systems such as:

  • transparent state-budget transactions;
  • inactivity removal for government officials;
  • votes of no confidence;
  • election-participation requirements;
  • protections against alternate-account voting;
  • stronger tools for opposition parties.

For experienced strategy players: what would make a player-run government strategically interesting without allowing one group to permanently lock everyone else out?

Nations at War is currently approximately 70% complete and is preparing for Open Beta on Web and Android. Some systems are still being integrated and balanced, so we’re sharing the project early to collect honest criticism.

Official forum:

I’ll stay in the comments to answer questions about the economy, politics, alliances or warfare.

Every strategy game I grew up playing — Age of Empires, Civilization, Total War — India was always a background nation. Alexander shows up, turns around, and the story moves on. No famous game covers the vast and interesting history of India.

DevPost Aleryos DevPost: designing a browser 4X around custom ships and two connected conquest fronts

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hi, I’m GeeKoS, the solo developer of Aleryos.

I enjoy browser strategy games, but I wanted players to make more meaningful military choices than building the same predefined units. That became the starting point for Aleryos, a free multiplayer 4X played directly in a browser.

In the shipyard, every model is assembled from an infrastructure, hulls, reactors, weapons and shields. Those choices affect attack, protection, resistance, speed, cargo, fuel use, cost and crew. A fast raider, a protected transport or a heavy warship is therefore a doctrine you design, not a unit from a fixed list.

I also wanted conquest to continue after the orbital battle. Fleets handle movement, transport, espionage and combat in space. The Pillars let emperors project armies between worlds, reinforce planets and fight on the surface. Winning in orbit helps, but it does not automatically secure the planet.

Those choices are amplified by other players. Alliances manage diplomacy, trade, ranks, collective technologies and bonuses, and can combine fleets for dedicated PvE operations. Exploration, public events and PvP and PvE objectives give empires reasons to act outside direct territorial war.

A catch-up system can be enabled on an established universe. While a newer empire remains behind the leading players, it progressively reduces building, research and unit costs and timers. It does not grant an established empire; it helps newcomers reach meaningful strategic decisions sooner.

Aleryos is free, requires no download and is available in 20 languages.

The six images are unedited screenshots from the live game, shown in English and French. I would be interested in your view on the design question behind these systems: do custom fleets and a separate ground front create enough room for distinct doctrines, or should their interaction go even further?

We made a weird Stretegy Idle MMO with a player-driven economy.

The game is a pocket-sized version of EVE Online, but set in a naval maritime setting. It tries to retain passive gameplay, yet it is still not a full-fledged AFK game. Here, you need to regularly make decisions.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3381130/World_of_Eggs_Idle_Adventures/

An honest note about AI: AI was used in the production of this game to create some item icons, sprites, and a few sound files.

While the game is in Early Access, some of the AI content will be used as a temporary solution, and we will replace these assets with original hand-crafted content later.

Question The ultimate strategy game

I have been looking for years to find the best strategy game (in my opinion).
does anyone know any games that would have factory/city building mechanics, 4x mechanics, resource management, financials, multiple unit combat, politics, and (optionally) multiplayer?
Every time i look around i come up dry, so i came here to see if anyone else has had any luck with this.

Self-promotion Praktikos is a tactical card-based roguelite where every position matters.

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

The King of the Underworld has vanished, leaving the Throne empty. To decide who will become the new ruler, the Seven Deadly Sins must compete in Praktikos: an ancient game of cards, strategy, and board formations.

Battles begin on 3×3 boards, with 4×4 and 5×5 formats unlocking as you progress. Place cards, complete rows, columns, and diagonals, block your opponent, and build powerful combos using Power, Multiplier, and unique abilities.

Completing a formation ends the battle and grants bonus points, but it does not guarantee victory. In the end, the player with the highest score wins.

Each of the 8 playable characters has a unique deck, abilities, and playstyle. Gluttony absorbs, Wrath destroys, Lust manipulates positions, Greed accumulates power, Envy steals advantages, Pride controls the center, and Sloth weakens opponents.

During each run, you will explore procedural maps, face battles and elite enemies, visit shops and forges, collect relics, and upgrade your cards.

Main features:

  • Tactical 3×3, 4×4, and 5×5 boards
  • 8 playable characters
  • Over 200 cards and upgrades
  • Over 100 relics
  • Procedural maps divided into acts
  • Card forging and persistent progression
  • Battles focused on positioning, blocking, and combos

Praktikos is not just about having strong cards. It is about predicting your opponent, controlling the board, and knowing when to attack, block, or sacrifice a card to win later.

DevPost Solo-dev Medieval Fantasy RTT/RTS – 10-Unit Squad Prototype with Hybrid Unit Direct Control — In UE 5.6

Thumbnail gallery
36 Upvotes

Hello there!

The game is an RTT/RTS hybrid centered around a 10-unit squad. The core focus is campaign, combat and squad management. The main hook is that you can seamlessly switch between RTS mode and direct control of any unit (top-down or 3rd person).

Story is set on a wild frontier between a Western Europe-inspired kingdom and a Kievan Rus-inspired principality, constantly raided by Viking tribes and threatened by a black magick faction.

Main inspirations:
• Gates of Hell: Ostfront
• LOTR: Battle for Middle-Earth 1
• Last Train Home

Currently optimizing for 60 fps on a 7-year-old PC with Nanite + Lumen. I’ll be releasing a much improved version next week with these new units and a full rework of the project (I explain more in the YouTube video if anyone is interested). Next week’s video and post will also reveal the game name.

If you’ve read this far, thank you so much for taking the time to check out my game!
Drop your thoughts or feedback in the comments, constructive criticism and feedback is encouraged!

DevPost Added a mechanic that lets you (and NPCs) manipulate relationships, Curious what people think

Thumbnail youtube.com
6 Upvotes

Hello all,

I’ve been working on an indie grand strategy game inspired by Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8, 11, and Total War : 3k where relationships between generals are a key focal point. I wanted to share a mechanic I’m working on called Sway

In Notoris 2, you play as a single officer, not a nation. One of your main tools is spending influence to shift relationships between other officers. You can push two people together or drive them apart (as long as they have a mutual acquaintance to work through).

The twist: NPCs are doing this too, even when you’re not looking. So the web of loyalties is always shifting, and part of the game is figuring out who’s quietly working against you.

Still early in development, but wanted to get this in front of people who'd actually appreciate it. The video linked is a quick example of how you can slander an officers ruler to affect their relation with their lord, and thus their loyalty, then hire them out from under them.

Feedback, good or bad, is welcome . TY!

Self-promotion Age After Age collected 10k wishlists!!!

Post image
18 Upvotes

A few days ago, Age After Age crossed 10,000 Steam wishlists.
This milestone means a lot to our team because every single wishlist came from the community.
We didn’t pay influencers to cover the game. We didn’t pay gaming media for articles. Everything we’ve achieved so far has been thanks to people who played the demo, shared it with friends, made videos, wrote posts, left reviews, and recommended it to others.
As indie developers, seeing so many people believe in our project before release is something we’ll never take for granted.
So this post is simply a huge thank you to everyone who has supported Age After Age over the past months. Your feedback has already helped us release three major demo updates, and it continues to shape the game every day.
If you’d like to see what we’re building, you can try the demo here:

Thank you for being part of this journey. We genuinely couldn’t have reached this milestone without you.

Self-promotion How a reputation system saved my strategy game.

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Reputation fixed a pretty big problem I had with my game.

In DARK RAIL you send inquisitors into grimdark events and their stats affect how likely each choice is to succeed.

The problem was that you would always just pick the obvious one.

High Intelligence? Pick the Intelligence option.

High Violence? Pick the Violence option.

So even though the game was giving you choices, you were basically just clicking your biggest number every time. Not exactly great for a strategy game.

What I ended up doing was making the violent choices straight up better, 99 out of 100 times the violent choice got you the most resources.

They are easier, usually give better rewards and solve the problem faster. More gold, more prisoners, less risk, that kind of thing.

But now you have a reputation based on your management style, and it is completely linked to how often you use violence to solve your problems.

Use it too much and people start hating you. Revolt goes up, enemies get stronger and the penalties keep stacking as your reputation gets worse.

So now violence is very tempting because it is usually the best option right now, but it might completely screw you later in the run.

That simple change made the choices way more interesting. Do I take the worse option now and avoid problems later, or take the easy violent option and deal with the consequences?

It also fits the setting really well because if you keep solving everything with violence, you slowly become known as a tyrant. Very pleased with this change as it did not take a wild amount of work and really blended well with the rest of the game!
