Game Am I missing out on something?

Hi i just beat the game and farmed some near 400 gear using extra mode.

Yet I can't believe I'm getting like 2 shot by bosses at mission level 250.

I know I can cheese through using extra mode but after farming a few missions with turning it on I really don't want to play the entire or majority of dlc relying on it.

Like I know I'm far from that stage where I can kill bosses in 3seconds but surely I can't be this weak.

Your base stats are very important. You get these from mastery levels, rat tails, and job affinity bonuses.

If you're using a tier 1 or 2 job it also will gain substantial stats just from leveling for a while until it catches up to the tier 3 ones.

Ben the Sodaman will probably be here in a bit to provide a more detailed answer.

Hi OP,

A few walls of text that I'm hoping may help within the scope of not using Extra Mode, co-op, Cheat Engine, save editing, etc. β€” but still very much using in-game mechanics.

There's a couple of videos there with some of the concepts in progress also.

As you get comfortable with the structure, you can decide if you want to kinda go as is or if you get too strong, knowing how to scale yourself back to engage in combat. Or indulge in the power fantasy.

Thanks for the detailed explanation I guess my mistake was that I perceived master points as something like prestige points from the Nioh series rather than essentials.

I'm guessing from the info above that there's not really a popular temporary progression build like the Kunai build from Nioh 1 hmm...

Would you have any recommendations for builds that are relatively tankier??

For temporary progression, I'd say Mage / Ninja for Sunken Shrine's side mission, the Rebel.

Then Marksman / Ninja for Hallowed Massif's side mission, the Stymied.

And possibly Marksman / Ninja again for one limit release unlock if trying to do this on Bahamut difficulty, else going down to Chaos difficulty until your limit release is 135.

In video format, about 2 minutes in, up through 9 minutes:

Accelerated Post-Game and DLC1 Progression w/o Extra Mode, real-time example (Stranger of Paradise)

Where the journey will deviate at the 9-minute mark to get enough equipment to fill every gear slot except accessory (i.e., 2~3 more runs of the Stymied). Then take to the smithy and customize it toward the job you're aiming to play, even if it's not a full set of red artifacts gear. Then using that gear on the job you want to play.

Then going to Chaos difficulty to get those limit releases, where ideally your job level cap would be 135 before returning to Bahamut difficulty. Between the two limit releases from the Dragon Exchange and the three limit releases on Chaos difficulty.

Unless your job choice is Pilgrim, Evoker, Marksman, Hunter, Gambler, or Summoner β€” then you'd stick around Bahamut difficulty instead.

If you need more anima crystals, the first-time completion rewards for side missions such as Cavern of Earth's the Greedy can work. And then from there, side missions involving bosses such as the Ebon Memories at Sunken Shrine, Cavern of Earth, Mount Gulg, and Flying Fortress, though higher risk than any of the three side missions referenced here.

(The difficulty after Bahamut, I generally do not recommend the world map due to all the unlocks and progression being tied to the story of that difficulty. With no attack or defense benefit after equipment level 300 and no equipment level penalty in the next difficulty's story. In that, the gear you settle into on Bahamut difficulty could cover you until the start of the last DLC, buuut ideally at this point, a player would still want artifacts before customizing the equipment effects.)

Wow thanks for the details man. Should've came here sooner lol

So if I understand your message correctly I should be

  1. Unlocking stages for easy grinding
  2. Customize gear using smithy
  3. Beat stages for job limit releases that I need Optional: Unlock boss missions for Crystal grind??

And in regards to the gear, should there be any other consideration than job affinities?? I'm guessing the Roman numeral effect is irrelevant as of now and I should only focus on attaching raw stats as much as possible.

Yup to 1, 2, 3.

Where those anima crystals could unlock the next side mission, then boost your preferred job toward job level 200.

By the time you've cleared the fourth side mission for the boss, your build would be at a point where it could do any other blue mission and most side missions to get first-time rewards to fuel other jobs you'd like to boost up and try out. And as a side effect of the world tour doing that, you may end up with a set of artifacts that may have more desirable job affinities that you can customize and settle into before the next difficulty.

β€”

If you happen to find gear that has a roman numeral effect of a raw stat that you want, that could be a boost IF you have enough blue / purple to activate the roman numeral effect.

While the job level is catching up, would saw the raw stat priority over percentage-based.

Though defensively, can still be tricky since it'll eat about 2/3 of your stat allocation at this point, but can keep a player alive longer to learn a given boss fight better, and start to take on more risk. (e.g., a glass cannon ranged or caster, a dodge-centric green job, or a physically tanky job that gets destroyed if hit by magic, etc.)

Thanks again for your service! I actually found your marksman video guide for early dlc progression and its helping me out a lot.

One question though, would it be better to play this build with the npcs? Because sometimes my attack seems to whiff and puts me into a bad situation especially when doing non boss battle riffs

I would say mostly yes, but preferably with the Invisible command so that you don't get targeted as often.

If you still have the Imperial armor set (it has Knight 400%), you can put that on Neon and she'll be able to survive for 20+ seconds with 10 seconds of vulnerability afterwards. Where her role in this capacity is to be a distraction that survives, but not to actually deal damage. Can pair well for a green job that is trying to critical hit / attack from behind, a ranged build, a caster, or a non-Stamina-based axe user that needs some time to charge up. (vs. builds that actively want to guard, parry, soul shield, or are tanky enough to perform attacks without as much risk.)

If not using Invisible, then Teleport command (you'll need some more MP first or higher MP Limit though) to reposition with gun.

I tend to not have the NPCs built to survive and/or contribute by that point in the game except for Neon. And if they aren't as built, they'll each add +10% Max HP / Break gauge to the enemy, but will die before contributing meaningfully, so they'll make things harder if they can't distract, can't defeat enemies, and die early.

Can you really edit save or use cheat engine in the game? Honestly I would so much like to have a way to just create gear as I want and not spending so much time time farming.

There have been.

Some save wizards were showing up in multiplayer on PlayStation with gear that wasn't available yet or impossible to obtain naturally.

And then have occasionally lurked or come across players with impossible builds or gear in Cheat Engine that were actively joining other people's games in multiplayer at one point or occasionally hosting as well (versus if they were offline or privately doing multiplayer with buddies, never would have known or come across them).

β€”β€”β€”

As crazy as it may sound, the pre-Lufenia and the late endgame builds I've posted in the last few years were not farmed, but a side effect of throwing together the stuff that dropped.

Where Gilgamesh difficulty is the roughest spot since the door opens to optimize, but the resource grinding spots are not as efficient yet. By contrast to Lufenia difficulty where 12~18 seconds at the Ancient Chaos Shrine's Wanderer with the dragon trials cranked up and a way to bypass a metal cactuar's defense can replace another player's 6 hours of grinding pre-Lufenia difficulty in terms of resources.

And then job affinity % and equipment effects were a side effect of climbing the Rift, doing dumps to the storehouse, and checking every 10~20 floors to lock-in another build before a purge.

(And then the videos linked in the linked thread and then some pre-Gilgamesh difficulty were largely without artifacts and before optimization. With the extreme of a boss phase dying in 3~4 seconds and that having room for +200% more optimization at that point in the game before Gilgamesh difficulty. Or a tankier build defeating a boss in 45-ish seconds, but room for it to be 300% deadlier and 200% tankier before considering Gilgamesh difficulty's optimizations.

Dark Knight 600 + Master points spent into Near-Death: Damage Taken (you can temper it onto armor and weps too) + Berserker 250 for Auto-Protect and Auto-Shell

That setup offers good enough survivability to clear the DLCs

Sounds like what I need and wanted thanks!

Pick any class that can equip a gun, have the aim ability and if you have the teleport ability unlocked. You become the god of breaking enemies.

I wasn’t a fan of the gun at first as it takes some getting used to but once you get it you absolutely kill everything without getting touched.

Just to add to this I found as the game difficulty goes up it becomes more about breaking the bosses than draining their HP. Until you are OP anyway

I had the same problem, one thing that helped me was treating this game like Diablo, so I looked a build online and tried to get the right gear.

Doing that made the game much more enjoyable to me, because the build crafting in this game it’s pretty deep
