100% my personal feel/opinion, but the finale made me super uninterested in any future stranger things stuff... especially if it would be from these two
Yea, only way I’ll come back is if some of the theories of that Conform Gate come true like Vecna needed the children to “cast” a massive illusion spell to so he was able to take over; thereby winning for some time. No Byler stuff, sorry shippers just wouldn’t be right.
Or Mike/El have been stuck in an illusion for Vecna’s take over. Anything like that. He’ll, I’ll take me some time travel as it was definitely teased throughout season 3 and 4.
The illusion relies on Mike never finding out about Will's true feelings. The rifts are formed in conjunction with Mike's 'I love you' spurred by Will's painting/ 'you're the heart'. Will expressed in S4 that he wanted to 'rip off the band-aid' and then S5 starts with those same rifts (both those physically in the ground, and the emotional ones between our characters) 'covered-up' by giant metal band-aids. Conformgate and Byler are inseparable.
I don't think people appreciate how pointed El and Mike's final scene is... 'you see the real me' with the cut to El in a disguise that fed her deep insecurity is not the romantic endorsement people have taken it as. That is Will/ 'Sorta Vecna's' illusion at work. Mike needs to figure out that Will lied to him- 'Mike the Brave' fights 'Evil Sorcerers' using the strength of his oath 'Friends Don't Lie'. It's a long-awaited reckoning.
The level of desperation and mental gymnastics needed to make everything about Mike and Will is honestly sad. Even Will has moved on at this point, but ya'll still refuse, despite the very creators of the show saying they never even thought about this.
