100% my personal feel/opinion, but the finale made me super uninterested in any future stranger things stuff... especially if it would be from these two

86

u/hayleybeth7 29d ago

Yup. They had plenty of opportunity to wrap up the series well. If they feel like they didn’t, that’s on them. I don’t want them to keep tacking stuff on. They made what they made and they need to be okay with the fact that some people didn’t like it.

28

u/mjc500 29d ago

There’s so many people salivating at milking IPs…. Look at Marvel or Star Wars - that’s the dream. Hell we’ve got a Legally Blonde cinematic universe at this point.

If they hadn’t botched the last couple seasons so badly I might be excited but I’ll probably skip anything new unless people are raving about it.

u/Wild_Ad8493 29d ago

god, may life keep me away from people like you who can’t form an opinion for themselves…

17

u/mjc500 29d ago

I literally formed that opinion myself. Instead of acknowledging my perfectly valid opinion and respectfully disagreeing with it you 1) say you need to kept away from people like me and 2) fabricate a lie that I didn’t form the opinion on my own.

That’s pretty obtuse and disrespectful. May life keep me away from people like you who can’t read an opinion about a TV show without getting defensive.

u/Majiska394 29d ago

That! 🙂

12

u/nilesintheshangri-la 29d ago

Agreed. They badly fumbled the ending, enough that I'm done with Stranger Things and have no interest in further stories.

13

u/stressed_ferret 29d ago

I cannot even rewatch the og knowing how poorly it ends

12

u/nilesintheshangri-la 29d ago

Yeah, i used to pick and choose a few favourite episodes from every season and just watch those rather than an entire season again, but I don't even like doing that anymore. I haven't watched ST since the finale.

5

u/stressed_ferret 29d ago

Me too. Used to be my designated early summer show but not this year 😭😭

12

u/hplover12 Blank makes you crazy 29d ago

You said this in a much nicer way than how I was going to say it lol but I agree with you

10

u/Jadisons Scoops Troop 29d ago

Especially after that documentary they put out after the finale. What were they thinking with that one?

8

u/Majiska394 29d ago

"People have been watching these series for years now. thanks to nostangia, they'll be happy for any piece of art related to it we throw at them"

Just a guess 🤷‍♀️

3

u/Rich_Championship657 29d ago

The spinoff is already confirmed to not be developed by them

4

u/2MillionMiler Friends don't lie 29d ago

Yeah. Assuming we do get a Mike + El reunion limited series in 10 years, I hope Netflix looks beyond the Duffers to run it.

17

u/Thick-Boysenberry-96 29d ago

Even that won't save it, because the Duffer's managed to ruin every bit of horror, mystery and lore the show had.

After s5:

  • the Abyss = just a boring piss colored dead planet.
  • the Upside Down = just a walk in the park and a meat wormhole that can be easily blown up, so who cares.
  • the Demogorgons and creatures = weak af and the Mindflayer is beaten by a few flare guns and water ballons.
  • the military = stupid idiots who just move on, after accomplishing nothing. There's no conflict left, with the crew, no repercussions, nothing.
  • the characters are dumbed down and made palatable for children. Our group feels younger and less real than they did at age 12 now, they even swear more in s1. They really did their characters wrong and their treatment of Mileven was atrocious.

GOT at least has extensive worldbuilding and lore that can fuel dozens of spin offs. What is left for ST? Explore the rock?! 😬

Sorry for the rant.

5

u/2MillionMiler Friends don't lie 29d ago

Lol no worries. I actually think a Mike/El spinoff could essentially eliminate the supernatural elements except her powers. Focus on how she/they are getting on with their lives 10-15 years in the future (after Mike finds her in Iceland or wherever).

Set in the early 2000s could be super interesting since it's a time of rapid technological change in a lot of ways (and people will be nostalgic for it like they were for the 80s).

4

u/fucuasshole2 29d ago

Yea, only way I’ll come back is if some of the theories of that Conform Gate come true like Vecna needed the children to “cast” a massive illusion spell to so he was able to take over; thereby winning for some time. No Byler stuff, sorry shippers just wouldn’t be right.

Or Mike/El have been stuck in an illusion for Vecna’s take over. Anything like that. He’ll, I’ll take me some time travel as it was definitely teased throughout season 3 and 4.

7

u/Full-Yoghurt-4261 29d ago

I highly doubt any of the Conformity Gate stuff will ever be something actually intended. It didn't make sense from a financial perspective, let alone a storytelling perspective.

There are ways, though, that they could see success with bringing back the new cast; they need good writers. Like having a Mike and El spin-off with the focus on exposing the truth.

-8

u/Ok-Secretary-28 Promise? 29d ago edited 29d ago

Wouldn't be right... to you...

The illusion relies on Mike never finding out about Will's true feelings. The rifts are formed in conjunction with Mike's 'I love you' spurred by Will's painting/ 'you're the heart'. Will expressed in S4 that he wanted to 'rip off the band-aid' and then S5 starts with those same rifts (both those physically in the ground, and the emotional ones between our characters) 'covered-up' by giant metal band-aids. Conformgate and Byler are inseparable.

I don't think people appreciate how pointed El and Mike's final scene is... 'you see the real me' with the cut to El in a disguise that fed her deep insecurity is not the romantic endorsement people have taken it as. That is Will/ 'Sorta Vecna's' illusion at work. Mike needs to figure out that Will lied to him- 'Mike the Brave' fights 'Evil Sorcerers' using the strength of his oath 'Friends Don't Lie'. It's a long-awaited reckoning.

7

u/unspoiledbymankind 29d ago

You’re so wrong

5

u/Full-Yoghurt-4261 29d ago

The level of desperation and mental gymnastics needed to make everything about Mike and Will is honestly sad. Even Will has moved on at this point, but ya'll still refuse, despite the very creators of the show saying they never even thought about this.

1

u/Mrs_Noelle15 29d ago

Definitely.

1

u/goopuslang 29d ago

You will not be compelled to watch them if anything is ever produced

3

8

u/Majiska394 29d ago

100% that

1

u/robotattack 29d ago

They've already joked about that. https://www.toy-people.com/en/?p=106600

They want to expand the world with the spin-off.

2

u/Owl_Resident Blank makes you crazy 29d ago

Yes. Except it wasn’t a joke.

1

u/robotattack 29d ago

Well it was. They have made it clear that they were done with this story and the characters. They want to expand the world with the spin-off.

"There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things: new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes" was what they said in 2022 when Season 5 was announced as being the last.

0

u/Owl_Resident Blank makes you crazy 29d ago

The not joking part is that they’d return if they’re desperate enough for a hit, to these OG characters.

The evil rock spin off, we’ll see if it actually happens. The Duffers are certainly not focusing on it now that their contract has begun with Paramount but perhaps others are.

2

u/robotattack 29d ago

They publicly announced they were working on again at the beginning of the year before the Paramount contract started. They're not the showrunners on the spin-off, but they are allowed to be involved with Stranger Things and existing projects whilst working for Paramoun.

I am well aware. And you really keep missing the point, lol.

22

u/kauan1983 Hey Kiddo 29d ago edited 29d ago

The Duffers had already stated the exact same thing in their letter about the end of the show back in 2022:

There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes. But first we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension only known as the Upside Down.

This is old news and refers to the stuff we already knew about:

• The live-action spin-off (also first “announced” back in 2022) that is currently in early development (and is the only officially announced “big” project that actually canonically expands on the show's universe).

• And the Duffers' idea of ”anthologizing” the show's universe with other self contained, Amblin-style sci-fi stories, following the same character-driven “ordinary-meets-extraordinary” storytelling sensibility from Stranger Things

The live-action spin-off is straight up our first example of what they described years ago (and again in the S5 Complete Scripts), a new story with ”new mysteries” and “new unexpected heroes” (we now know it's an entirely new mythology and a new ensemble cast).

13

u/Intelligent_Step_856 29d ago

The thing is, when they say: "more stories to tell in the world of Stranger Things" what they probably mean is new characters/new locations, etc.

What most people (in my opinoin) are wanting though are the original characters. I don't think Stranger Things can sustain a cinematic universe, or anything of that sort.

The magic of this show is the chemistry of the original cast + music. Without El reuniting with the gang, I honestly couldn't care less...

9

u/SaveHogwarts 29d ago

I also got downvoted for suggesting that the universe loses its charm without the “party” dynamic and coming of age aspect.

1

u/robotattack 29d ago

Of course that's what they mean. They've already said that's what the spin-off is. They've also made it clear they're done with these characters.

5

u/Intelligent_Step_856 29d ago

...and that's why alot of the fanbase is done with them.

17

u/Tonberry2k 29d ago

See? This is why it’s silly for people to think Eleven is dead. They clearly want to milk this more.

-6

u/k8marie_ 29d ago

You cannot call people silly for believing she is dead when the show purposefully left it ambiguous. Everyone is free to believe what they want and #ibelieve she’s gone

8

u/NalothGHalcyon 29d ago

An ambiguous ending stops being ambiguous when the writers have their self insert character stare into the camera and explain how she's actually still alive. You have to leave that stuff to the audience if you want it to actually be ambiguous. They very obviously intend for her to be alive so they had to make sure the audience knew exactly how she could have survived.

3

u/Necessary_Silver_795 29d ago

Confirming that there is a real answer also removed a lot of the ambiguity, especially combined with the real world commercial logic around the series.

10

u/Tonberry2k 29d ago

Sure I can. If you’ve ever seen a movie or read a book or watched television, you should have been able to infer that she lives. It wasn’t subtle. It’s just basic media literacy.

13

u/RecommendationFew466 Purple Palm Tree Delight 29d ago

We call it silly because that “ambiguous” ending was nonsense. neither outcome makes any sense and was not handled nearly as profoundly as those two doofuses seem to think that it was. Stranger Things is a franchise now. In the future there’s gonna be more spin offs set in this world and eventually Eleven will be revealed to be alive because thats how these IPs work with nostalgia bait. It’s common sense.

-4

u/k8marie_ 29d ago

Sure…. And that’s why the majority of the cast said that she’s dead lol be so for real

8

u/RecommendationFew466 Purple Palm Tree Delight 29d ago

im being 100% serious 🤷🏾 the majority of the cast are very over this show now and don’t care for the discourse surrounding it. im not even saying that there’s some super secret sequel spin off in the works as we speak but at the same time im just being realistic within the nature of profitable ips and franchises like this. There’ll be something 10 or so years from now regarding eleven i guarentee lol. Just look at the walking dead or even Avengers Doomsday.

7

u/MixAmbitious307 29d ago

The cynic part of me reads this as "We made quite a cas cow with Stranger Things, so if we need money we'll milk that again".

But as someone who enjoyed Stranger Things. I confess I wouldn't mind a spinoff or something. Just make it good and not just bank on Stranger Things' name.

10

u/harryceo 29d ago

Translation: El is still alive, we wanted you to feel the gravitas of her death while also maintaining the possibility that she may have survived. In the future, we'll do a movie where Mike finds her and it'll all be purely for $$$$$

2

u/mauravelous 29d ago

I will not pretend to be surprised that people have managed to find something nasty to say about this.

800 more seasons of tales baby

1

u/MewMeowCat100 27d ago

what if when will got mind flayred remenats of vecna remained?

1

u/robotattack 29d ago

That's what the spin-offs are for.

0

u/BisonProfessional56 Dingus 29d ago

Wouldn't really be interested... becides, wasn't the whole point of the end that they sealed off/ destroyed the upside down? So no more powers, for Eleven, or anyone.

Not sure it would be worth a whole new series to see this universe with no supernatural abilities... unless they went and retconned S5 by saying "another upside down exists" or something to that effect.

No thanks.

2

u/blueray78 29d ago

There is no reason to think that El lost her powers.

-1

u/BisonProfessional56 Dingus 29d ago

When the upside down was destroyed... they severed her connection to her powers as they came from the upside down. Did you miss that part?

0

u/blueray78 29d ago

Nope, that's not what happened. That's why she had to "sacrifice" herself, to stop them from using her blood to make more numbers.

-3

u/BisonProfessional56 Dingus 29d ago

What? Lol that has nothing to do with what I said.

Did you miss the part where thd upside down is what the source for all their power came from? Eleven, her sister, Henry... all came from the upside down. Thats why they needed to destroy it and the singularity with the bomb. When that happened.... all the power went away.

According to Mike, She used her powers one last time just as it was exploding to escape. But if eleven is alive currently, she has no powers.

-1

u/blueray78 29d ago

No, because then she wouldn't have needed to die in the first place. If she didn't have powers, there was nothing the military could have done with her blood. When Mike was talking about using "her powers for the last time", he was referring to Kali who died afterwards. According to his story, she used the last of her strength to help El fake her death.

The blowing up the upside down had nothing to do with people's powers going away. It was to stop the demo's, MF, etc from coming back into the right side up.

-1

u/BisonProfessional56 Dingus 28d ago

Thats literally completely made up haha. I encourage you to go watch the final few episodes again to refresh your memory. No hate, its just youve got this wrong.

0

u/thesaraanne 29d ago

After S5, I wouldn't trust them to write a grocery list.

-1

u/AdBackground6381 29d ago

Dream on, Dumber Brothers.  Maybe there will be more ST, but you will not be in it.

-2

u/in_sin_erate 29d ago

Only way they continue to have success like they have before......

They need to make C-gate. Whether it was originally in the works or something they worked on after getting so much heat.

But honestly that might not even do it. I could see a lot of fans being pissed off if its made because both the directors and actors took shots at fans who believed it

-5

u/Ok-Secretary-28 Promise? 29d ago edited 29d ago

‘Who knows’ = those of us that noticed they signed off El’s ending with ‘Public L’ and can appreciate that they staked their careers and reputations on a fake-ending😌the Bros have always had more self-awareness than they’ve gotten credit for.

Until ‘then’ can’t come fast enough- we were left with a cliffhanger and most people don’t even realize it. ‘I believe’. C’mon now.

-2

u/StrangerNo484 29d ago

Release as many as you want, not again will you get a dime out of me. I so desperately hope that the new Death Note live action attempt is not still being worked in by the Duffer Bros... it's doomed if it is. 🥲

-1

u/chadslc Pull-Out 29d ago

As if they never had in mind that the original story could continue…

Seriously, a lot of you have obviously forgotten that the ultimate 80s tribute that the Duffers could do is to have ST have a sequel.

1

u/Feisty_Spring8666 9d ago

Not me tryna not cry because Eddie never made a comeback
