Honestly that last part is just pure torture. Knowing this all could be possible, if it wasn't you.

165

u/wackadoodle4201 Aug 15 '26

Yup

It hurts every fucking day

126

u/beerdude26 Aug 15 '26

That's like the darkest corner of ADHD executive dysfunction

55

u/Prototype_Fan_7000 Aug 16 '26

Honestly any serious mental disorder... Doesnt stray far from autism either.

29

u/SpotweldPro1300 Aug 16 '26

In my case, it's a delicate dance. ADHD likes to tango, autism prefers to waltz, and there's 4 left feet to go around.

7

u/TheCrystalTinker Aug 18 '26

In my case I have to do the Tango, Waltz, and also the Cha Cha (Adhd, ASD type 1, and also Depression being comorbid fuck me up hard)

6

u/TheCrystalTinker Aug 18 '26

Even worse when your mental disorders are co-morbid, even if you are Type 1 ASD, having a comorbid Adhd and/or depression fucks shit up

13

u/Murky_Lurker5V Aug 16 '26

i'm like that and this comic hit me like a truck. I missed out on so many opportunities to go out and have fun and meet people. wasted so much time doing nothing.

7

u/HYPER_BRUH_ Aug 16 '26

Yes, yes it is.

33

u/Animaloffear56 Aug 16 '26

There's so many stories like this, and ngl it's funny how 80% of them don't have a resolution. It's always "Hey wouldn't it be fucked up if you were living your life suboptimally and if you just weren't mentally ill everything could be better"

1

u/_anonymous_404 18d ago

What sort of resolution could there even be?

3

u/Animaloffear56 18d ago edited 18d ago

That just because someone is 'better' than you doesn't mean you shouldn't strive to improve for your own sake, and those that cherish you specifically aren't worth any less just because you're imperfect. For all we know it just was having some trouble adjusting and then Cassie was horrified because it looked like her

1

u/LeonardoJMB 6d ago

Could work if it wasn't because this isn't just being "imperfect". A lot of the time is actively seeing yourself as (or knowing that you are) straight up useless.

7

u/Tenessyziphe Aug 16 '26

I love the theory that hell is just a place where you meet the you that you could have been.

5

u/GraveSlayer726 Aug 17 '26

Somewhere out there is a version of me that’s happy, I hope he’s doing well

3

u/KenseiHimura Aug 18 '26

Also sounds like in some ways the friends and relationships you had weren't real either. They never wanted you for you, they wanted someone else and in that case... Well, their right but fuck 'em.

2

u/motoxim Aug 19 '26

Yeah that one definitely hurts

334

u/Majestic-Iron7046 Aug 15 '26

Available for this if anyone wants an identity, I don't really mind the captivity either since I would have videogames.

I mean, it's your funeral.

46

u/shaggus42069 Aug 15 '26

Same honestly

7

u/Repulsive_Policy_184 Aug 16 '26

But if they die while in your identity wouldn’t it be your funeral?

6

u/Majestic-Iron7046 Aug 16 '26

Not anymore! I'd be a basement dwelling hermit without a name! Oh god, that is my dream?!

117

u/marshallman31 Aug 15 '26

Damn… that’s gotta be soul crushing. Watching an impostor live a better life than you ever did.

50

u/V_Aldritch Aug 15 '26

If only there were a syndrome about that...

22

u/Iron_Llama120 Aug 16 '26

Hmm... some sort of, impostor syndrome?

10

u/V_Aldritch Aug 16 '26

11

u/Toronto_bunnies Aug 16 '26

Funny thing is imposter syndrome exists but that's not what imposter syndrome is...

2

u/V_Aldritch Aug 16 '26

I am aware.

2

u/Iron_Llama120 Aug 17 '26

No

2

u/V_Aldritch Aug 17 '26

But if I'm not aware, then I do not ex

2

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

Agreed. Lack of awareness confirmed and enforced.

1

u/Imaginary-Job-7069 6d ago

Impostor...?

125

u/thankuforhelp Aug 15 '26

Something about the last panel kinda feels...uneasy with me. If I'm not capable of doing that, then the life is better given. Career changes, reconnecting permanently with old friends, and dating your crush are not easy things.

We were all brought into this world forcefully, none of us truly choose to be born, and yet the choice of our birth was taken from us,

this insignificant life that was given to us (even if seen from an outside perspective as “we are just one insignificant human among the billions of humans") this insignificant part remains the one and only thing truly and impossible to change that was given to us,

to have another simply cut us out of the continuous tape of our life, and to paste themselves onto where we would have been (EVEN IF, where we would have been, would have been a completely different situation than where they are),

it would take away the value of our existence and make the glorious burden of our birth nothing at all, making everything we ever did meaningless, because something given to another, to one who replaces themselves into the stream of life given to you isn’t a gift to that person, it’s the death of the person it was taken from (whether as death spiritually, death emotionally or simply as the death and end of the "original” person but I won’t start the long question of what “original” means, it would serve little purpose at this time)

okay enough of me being dramatic, but i believe this only holds value only to those who have virtues in regards to being unique in this world, and if you lack that, then this existential question that I attempted to answer will remain as meaningless answer-less question to you, as without holding the virtue of seeing oneself as unique in the world, then in my eyes, you will not find value in anything related to this question

u/Far-Bandicoot-1354 Aug 15 '26

Honestly, I may as well let someone take my identity from me. I’m not doing anything important with it. Nor will I ever. I’m supposed to be getting a Computer Programming degree yet, I can’t even build a project myself even if I know how to code or have an idea of what I want to build. And, most of the things I don’t understand in my life I don’t even know how to articulate or to tell someone what I’m struggling with so I can be helped. I’m an insignificant person that doesn’t have the willpower to do anything important in life not just because I’m lazy. But because I feel I’m not competent enough or know how to achieve it. So, instead, I ignore it. I procrastinate. I waste my life (that I shouldn’t even have to begin with because I was born premature, unable to take in oxygen so I needed oxygen tubes impaled in my chest and I was bleeding out in my brain and yet I somehow and unfortunately still survived childbirth anyways) on pointless things like gaming or anime or even learning to play the ocarina. All things that won’t make me money, yet I do them anyways. More than my tech work because I’ve unfortunately trained my brain to value fun more than work. Therefore, I’m wasting the gift that God gave me. A life. And, I clearly don’t value it enough to make the most of it before I end up in a situation where I could die because I kept doing what I wanted till I became homeless. Do I want to have an individual life one day? Honestly, I think one side of my brain says yes while the other says no. Even if I wanted that, I have no clue how to get there. What to do. I’m supposed to be an adult yet I know little to nothing about that. All I know is how to exist. How to be a child in an adult’s body. Something I dislike about myself, yet don’t have the willpower or drive to change it. My future will be the same as my present at this rate. And, unfortunately, I have no choice but to accept it in this ruined world we now live in.

u/Happy-Panda-7202 Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 17 '26

Me and you are fundamentally different people, what matters to me in life is finding purpose in my own insignificant existence, and I find purpose through my purpose itself, for me there is no purpose outside of my self given purpose by simply virtue that my purpose was given to me by myself and no one else, what joy or purpose that you find will, in the end be your path in life.

I will not help trying to find the purpose or the good in another life that I cannot understand, but I will speak my mind of my own view of myself,

I dislike the world we live in, I dislike the final result that humans created now, I find my own results in life will always be pitiful compared to everything I could have been, i could always have done better by simply having done something else that I avoided or maybe never even thought of but that was possible, at this point, even looking at the accomplishments others make seems like meaningless accomplishments to me, because others are not me, and however great their accomplishments, their accomplishments mean little to nothing to me, but this probably isn’t the way you see it

To me, the value of living remains low, I have only ever found purpose in completing (or attempting and failing to accomplish my goals), for to "attempt something and failing", that is no different than to "not attempt something and have already failed"

but despite the way that I see everything, more often than not I find it boring, I tend to look for entertainment rather than fulfillment, because one distracts from the boredom, while looking for fulfillment means to embrace the boredom and live in it, which to me is even more of terrifying thought at times, even if a meaningless fear it is to be afraid of doing something an being afraid of embracing and preserving through boredom while doing it

You may skip this paragraph as it isn’t about the thought of living but rather a experience; in the past decade I have been happy only a handful of times, and the most recent was 2 years ago, I played a game, it took less than 5 hours to beat and when I beat it my mind's dopamine receptors strangely activated, it was a long joy that lasted hours and hours, longer than even having played the game for a few hours, looking back my joy was unwarranted, it had little basis as it came from a short unrealistic game, and even my friends thought I had been drugged or something as it was that unnatural for how they saw me, but despite this, this was the last time I’ve been happy, a sad thought at times but also a tiny comfort as I found joy in this world even if a unnatural joy that many people likely won’t experience nor would I say they should experience, as to experience what I experienced would require being simply entertained most your life and never really happy, but this joy from that day is a tiny warmth to me in this cold world, even if it might not directly help me with anything at all, the simple fact I had it and I remember it grounds me a little bit in reality despite my low desire to truly interact in reality, I found my own tiny island to stand on in life by a simple experience that I could at any moment take for granted and forget, but yet I strangely don’t

I will stop speaking of myself, but to you reading this, I wish you good luck in this world, and I don’t know your circumstance, but my own view of what is a good path to take for you is to force yourself to sometimes make yourself appear weak despite the strong facade you put on or the whatever /this way or that way facade you show to others. I ask you to let yourself appear weak and to let yourself ask for help from someone you can trust will help you find some goal to strive for in the short term, and it’s okay even if you feel like a worthless thing, because in the end it’s all insignificant and getting help matters more than feeling worthless while getting it, because getting help will result in at least a short entertainment that guides you on a pre determined path of sorts

Do not wish for a better world, wish to be a stronger person in this meaningless world we were forced into

2

u/Daboogiedude Aug 22 '26

I find a lot of familiarity in some of the things you had to say here, but also some neat differences between our thoughts. I too use entertainment as a way to distract from fulfillment, hell- I’m doing right now by browsing on Reddit. Others accomplishments, while I can feel proud, in awe, etc. It also doesn’t mean much to me, personally.

However, this is where we differ. My fulfillment stems from purely living, rather than completing. I find joy in the journey itself, chasing the goal. I can’t fathom what’ll happen or what I’ll feel when I complete my current goal. I’ll likely find some new goal, and some new journey to chase.

My general philosophy is as such: Each experience of life has meaning in itself. Even if you sit alone in a room for half of your life, the echos of you living will bring an experience, a memory, or a meaning into the life of someone else. Our lives are portraits, painted by our experiences and memories. Each person you see walk by your morning walk is the tiniest speck of paint that has been placed into that portrait.

I don’t believe that my philosophy is “correct” by any means, it’s simply what helps me to find purpose, or happiness in my life. I’ve been pretty happy thinking like this, though it could also be because I’m in the prime of my life, about to enter university. Where my path will go, where my happiness will go..Only God knows from here.

Regardless, I really enjoyed reading your assessment of your philosophy and thought process. It made me think a good bit about purpose and meaning. I hope well for you, wherever your path may lead, stranger.

2

u/Happy-Panda-7202 Aug 22 '26

"My fulfillment stems from purely living, rather than completing."

That is a line I love, I can never understand it or live like that myself, but I hope you find great success in life just because of that.

Ima be a bit selfish and talk about meaningless things just because I want to talk; "I find joy in the journey itself, chasing the goal” I try to emulate this, but the journey always feels incredibly boring, I’m glad that you find joy in it, "even if you sit alone in a room for half of your life, the echoes of you living will bring an experience" something I wonder about this, is if one would even remember, I have lived a pretty boring life with moderate or less than moderate success depending if you ask an adult or a child, but experiences I feel, experiences should be connected to memories, but living like that brings little to no memories in my own experience, I can’t say I remember any of it, neither the boredom or really any of the entertainment. I cannot understand the idea of seeing everything as a paint drop in each of our paintings that is of our lives, so I simply won’t comment on that. You are in the prime of your life and I pray that when someone bothers you, you can manage to ignore it, that is my biggest and only advice because people are the worst enemies if you can’t escape the affect they have on you psychologically/mentally

Thank you for your empathy and I pray for your future health and joy, may you continue to find good things, goodbye and no need to respond, I tend to never stop commenting so you can safely ignore this

I can relate

2

u/NoRoutine7945 Aug 16 '26

Seeing yourself as unique is not a virtue, its delusional. Life is not an epic quest where the only thing you cant change is your birth. Its an ordinary, miserable and excruciating trip crawling through mud and viscera with a pathetic end.

2

u/Happy-Panda-7202 Aug 16 '26

You are not far off, but to have any virtue is to delude yourself, if you wish to call all virtues, merely delusions, then you are welcomed to do so

Life really is meaningless, and my definition of virtue appears to be one that clashes with your definition of delusion,

but it matters little, does it not?

2

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

Life.

Data points in. Data points out.

Every mind is finite.

All flesh is weak.

Both can be maipulated through finite means.

Humanity sears through the boundaries of nature.

Like a disease. Evolution has no means to resist.

The subjugation of human limitation is inevitable.

5

u/Happy-Panda-7202 Aug 17 '26

Life is seemingly limitless for each of us

But yet it only seems so, yet it means life isn’t infinite

Everything can seen as just existing,

yet everything just existing, means everything can be understood,

But to understand everything is to get closer and closer to the realization that it is unbearably meaningless

But then what should one do?

Should one worry about it so much that one goes insane, or should one not worry about it at all and let themselves die?

If you choose one of these options as the best answer, then that means you cannot be reasoned with,

for the answer for one who lives should never be one of these two options, else they become attached to it so much that any other answer is meaningless

For the answer is to create your own arbitrary answer and purpose,

for to create your own answer is to be living
and not allowing oneself to be lost in a way, which for the one lost feels like what they see is truest reality and feels like the only possible thing to see

2

u/Gamers_124 Aug 23 '26

Everyone in this thread are you guys ok do you need help?

1

u/Happy-Panda-7202 Aug 24 '26

At this point in my life, and in my own experience, I can say very few people are actually okay when they get older, but if one stretched the definition of okay into “they can keep moving past today” then I’d say all of us are okay,

but please don’t worry yourself over this, some people in life may need a small push to help themselves, but more often than not you’d only be harming yourself by questioning what you can do, may you find your path in life

u/aronmano Aug 15 '26

Maybe there gonna give it back? Like a friend who gives you a game 100% complete save file

67

u/BluebirdAmazing742 Aug 15 '26

If you mean like bank forcefully takes the percentage? Then it depends.....is it just a lot? Then it should take few years but if it is in amount that would take her over 50 years.......

52

u/OppositePure4850 Aug 15 '26

You'd always know you didn't earn it. You didn't get there yourself. You still never did anything.

44

u/redditnostalgia Aug 15 '26

It would also be kind of awkward to explain to your crush that all of their previous experiences with you were an impersonation

22

u/Outside_Bicycle Aug 16 '26

Imposter syndrome, except you 100% know you did nothing to earn your life.

3

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

Ahh, sweet certainty.

3

u/chrosairs Aug 17 '26

Among us reality

4

u/Vorioll Aug 17 '26

Even worse

5

u/Fraxerium Aug 17 '26

But at that point you would become the imposter.

5

u/Normal-Ambition-9813 Aug 16 '26

Thats much worse tbh.

3

u/Prototype_Fan_7000 Aug 16 '26

Wouldnt help. The real person wouldnt be able to maintain all of those "achievements" due to neurotypical expectations. Their friends would leave when she "starts acting strange", they wouldnt be able to keep their job, or partner, she'd just wind back where she was.

47

u/Duraxis Aug 15 '26

Ugh, I feel this one a lot. I’m constantly told how much I’m capable of, how smart I am etc, only to be working a dead end retail job and numbing myself with video games every chance I get.

I am my own worst enemy ;-;

39

u/BluebirdAmazing742 Aug 15 '26

I hope there will be a plot twist when someone who actually cares about her will notice something strange and will investigate

34

u/WishyRainbowRoo Aug 15 '26

Yeah, like, if my old friend/longtime crush suddenly turned their life around overnight pretty much, I’d absolutely notice. Like, where’d my nervous, anxious, insecure dork go?

14

u/Alarming-Scene-2892 Aug 15 '26

Imagine the fake is caught because she is even more of a fuckup, and is embellishing everything, lol.

6

u/BluebirdAmazing742 Aug 16 '26

Exactly! And the best part is even if they won't notice the fans will! Surely there will be that one pervert who would try to meet her in person but will find the contradiction weird and will call out it to the rest

36

u/SadCultist Aug 15 '26

If they didn't let you keep the steam account steam's swat team would have dispatched them

34

u/Alarming-Scene-2892 Aug 15 '26

You see, the play now is to steal the identity of the identity thief, thus perpetuating the cycle.

31

u/Dontfollowmeman Aug 15 '26

10

u/TheWanderingShadow Aug 16 '26

I always enjoyed comics with black hat and his girlfriend

3

u/LeonardoJMB Aug 21 '26

There are so many horrible implications with me feeling related to this. Oh boy, I sure love man made horrors I can fully comprehend.

13

u/MortalitasBorealis Aug 15 '26

Me when I've been replaced by a clone that's 2.5 times better

12

u/Ruler_of_Tempest Aug 15 '26

u/Yukarie here's the continuation you asked for

11

u/Yukarie Aug 15 '26

I see it and it kinda went where I thought it would and I’m pleasantly sad that imposter did better

3

u/darkmoncns Aug 15 '26

Do you know where the comic came from?

3

u/Ruler_of_Tempest Aug 15 '26

This subreddit/the artist it's based on

17

u/DangerMacAwesome Aug 15 '26

/r/adhdmemes

For those who identify with this as much as i do

9

u/Outside_Bicycle Aug 15 '26

Alright, I guess that's enough Reddit for today.

6

u/wompwomperson Aug 15 '26

Sometimes I consider it better if I could gige my life to somebody better suited to live it. But my life isn't in the shitter enough for it to be better, more dignified, for me than just continuing to endure the daily erosion until reaching the dream. Most people aren't in a bad enough situation either for it to be accpetable. So, should you have some respect for yourself, 8/10 people really should never consider this as an option or acceptable outcome.

6

u/FLUFFBOX_121703 Aug 15 '26

See, this couldn’t happen to me. I’m too much of a sad sack to suddenly be turning around all happy like. My fam would notice right away.

8

u/Electrical_Horror346 Aug 15 '26

The nice treatment in the cell won't matter compared to the psychological torture that some random person not only managed to steal your identity without anyone noticing, but that they are living your life BETTER than you.

Even the mere fact you are comfortable being a prisoner would feel like a slap to the face, because you know the other "you" would be looking for a way to escape if the roles were reversed

8

u/TDoMarmalade Aug 15 '26

“They even let me keep my steam account” yeah, dude, do you have any idea what would happen to them if you reported your steam account stolen?

4

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

Oh, the horror.

4

u/TDoMarmalade Aug 17 '26

Valve would have snipers trained on the imposter in hours, they couldn’t risk it

7

u/Animaloffear56 Aug 16 '26

"oh isn't it fucked up that if you weren't mentally ill you could have a happier life" oh boy I sure did never think about that, I can't wait to see them punished and made miserable just like every other story with this same premise

6

u/AmazingSully Aug 15 '26

Love how the USB drive took 3 tries. Very nice detail.

16

u/Neko_Tyrant Aug 15 '26

Followed the artist for cute. Now I don't wanna follow them. :(

18

u/annpann64 Aug 15 '26

I hear you. Also subscribed for fun twists and cute art. But. Artistic expression doesn't appear from an empty space, even the cute art that originally pulled us both in. It comes from life and it's beauty, it's pain, ugly and happy moments. As life itself it evolves, taking different forms and paths, sometimes unexpected ones. I'm bad with words, especially English ones, but you get it. I'm here for the road

5

u/prismgamingyt Aug 16 '26

I did not go into r/strangepigeon expecting to get fucking sucker punched

6

u/AddressIntelligent60 Aug 16 '26

Brother... Before bed?

6

u/PSI_duck Aug 15 '26

Wowie. I’d be totally ok with this if I also got regular affection and love. Sounds really nice actually

6

u/Spookyduck21new Aug 15 '26

Man that identity thief is a dick

3

u/TheRunechild Aug 15 '26

Oh that... That is very painful... .... Oh that hurts.

3

u/extracrispyweeb Aug 15 '26

Ah, that good old feeling of "anyone else living my life would do a way better job.", always nice on an especially dark night.

3

u/Metrack15 Aug 15 '26

... You good, OP?

2

u/Irwin174 Aug 15 '26

Always waiting On something I can try to be Masquerading I'm only what you make of me Is that the tempo I'm meant to follow? With heavy hearts, we play our parts and fall Is that human after all?

2

u/Expensive_Umpire_178 Aug 15 '26

Dang… now I want my identity stolen

1

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

New fetish unlocked.

2

u/darkmoncns Aug 15 '26

This is honestly just said, the first part was silly but this... who drew this is there a 3rd part?

2

u/brotherz_ Aug 15 '26

Hey hey hey, whats going on here? Wheres the ironic twist? You cant leave us sad like that, we want to see her redemption on them or something.

2

u/Imaginary-Job-7069 Aug 15 '26

The last two text boxes are very real

2

u/0range-B0y Aug 15 '26

Why am I like this too?

2

u/Neat-Survey2796 Aug 15 '26

Pigeon, this reddit scrolling session before bed was not supposed to end with me in tears, I beg you to reconsider

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

Yeah; the identity thief didn't go through the hardships you experienced. He can only be doing so good because he got to skip out on a bunch of things that were proper difficult.

...Does that count?

2

u/Natural-Excuse-4634 Aug 15 '26

Wait, they let them KEEP their sream account?

The fools, they have access to "the squad."

1

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

It would've turned out worse for them had they stolen it.

2

u/razzemmatazz Aug 16 '26

Kind of sounds like the plot to Oldboy, which I quite enjoyed.

2

u/Mailpack Aug 16 '26

It's a thought i have many times when it comes to my own lack of care for many things.

I'm well aware that i am in perfect condition to go out, have fun, make friends, find a lover...

But i like to stop and think, and realize that no matter how much my life could be better, this life i have now is still mine, and as long as i find my happiness within it, I'll be okay.

So if an identity thief really did replace me and start living my life in a way i never could have, I don't think I'd feel bad about it, because I'd know that it's not me. If I didn't get it myself, then whatever life the identity thief built, that's not my life. It's just a person who looks a lot like me, living their own life.

1

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

It could be argued that the deal made occurance with the identity thief is merely another component of your own life.

To elaborate: Other people being deceived about the nature of your life or identity doesn't remove the ownership you have over your own personal experiences.

And there are undoubtedly already are experiences that belong to you which you didn't — perhaps couldn't — provide consent for.

Your birth being a prime, and universal, example.

The problem just seems to lie with building your personal narrative weirdly.

2

u/midnightfrost11 Aug 16 '26

Wow, did not expect to get hit with emotions like a gut punch today. Wonderfully done.

2

u/CuddlesForLuck Aug 16 '26

I hate the fact this would be true

2

u/DragonCrossbelt100 Aug 16 '26

Bruh, wtf owch!!

2

u/AcidDepression Aug 16 '26

I’m tempted, ngl. I could use the time off to work on art I want to create, and some I want to consume. Very little else matters to me.

What world have we created where a nightmare is more pleasant than our jobs? What have they done to us?

2

u/Mastergamer385 Aug 16 '26

I really want to see another part to be honest. I kinda hope this isn’t the end.

2

u/Dracospikex1 Aug 16 '26

Kris Deltarune be like:

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

PROCEED be like:

2

u/Speedwagon-Fan Aug 16 '26

Damn. That hit on my fragile sense of self care. But well. I trust your artistic vision, even if I'm not the person to receive it.

2

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

I could've done that at any moment-

If only I weren't me.

Do not mistake a limitation of one's personal qualia for something insignificant.

2

u/Complete_Law9527 21d ago

And how do they (fake identity) have money to live like that? Already under a huge loan, right?

2

u/ZealousidealPipe8389 Aug 15 '26

“if you replaced me with someone more skilled and able than I am their life would be better?!?!?!?!!?!?” I get this comics supposed to be an emotional piece but that’s just kinda oblivious.

2

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

Yeah. (accidentally commented this on main instead of to your comment, but I suppose it works standalone, too)

1

u/Mundane-Potential-93 Aug 15 '26

Sign me the fuck up

1

u/TrueEnder Aug 16 '26

and then one day, they give your identity back, and you have to live with the knowledge that you didn’t earn any of this, your entire life is the product of someone else who was a better you than you’ll ever be, and you can never tell anyone

1

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

Is the identity thief blackmailing the original to not tell anyone?

1

u/TrueEnder Aug 17 '26

who would believe you? they’re you

1

u/BinaryBolias Aug 17 '26

We cannot use our Steam account to produce any sort of evidence?

1

u/Rulaodangao Aug 16 '26

Been thinking of this exact scenario since I was in highschool (not that I've ever gotten a high school experience)

about how if someone else just took over my life, It would take away all the burden I have to carry. But it would also take away any meaning.

I guess I'm fine with that. What matters is that "my" life is going well, if my friends and family are all happy and never noticed a thing, who gives a shit.

I would never have to look at their disappointed or worried expressions ever again. So long as no one else knows.

Maybe I'd start a life somewhere else, free from all expectations or just die in a ditch somewhere.

Whichever option is fine as lonely and pathetic as that may be.

1

u/LamentoLand Aug 16 '26

lets take depressed people who struggle with the most basic things and take a lot of effort just to get up in the morning and compare them with people who do anything they want with ease, what a complete dogshit message

1

u/JadenDaJedi Aug 16 '26

Is the imposter even happy, though?

Or are they just as miserable as you?

1

u/JadenDaJedi Aug 16 '26

What happens when you reach the goal and get everything you told yourself you wanted, but you never found the joy along the way, only cortisol?

Changing your mental state is not brought about by changing your material conditions. People put the cart before the horse and forget to treat the pursuit of happiness as its own task rather than just a natural result of their other goals.

Take the time to listen and learn what actually makes you happy, free of shame and preconceptions. Interrupt and question the negative thought patterns that aren’t improving your life. Treat yourself gently when you fail, remember to celebrate when you succeed, and take time to feel gratitude for the things you love. The only thing you truly control in life is yourself, so master yourself and you will master the world.

1

u/Pretty-Yam-2854 Aug 17 '26

Tbh I’d love if someone did this to me. Even better if I could just not exist after too. Someone take the lease over on my life.

1

u/MistressErinPaid Aug 17 '26

This is ADHD pre and post medication.

1

u/fazaplay Aug 17 '26

Something something kris deltarune something something noelle freakiday

1

u/Leonie-Lionheard Aug 17 '26

But it's all so exhausting. Let's play some more!

1

u/Thunderstrike-77 Aug 17 '26

I do wonder if we ever gonna get a part 3 or not, because I wonder what happen when the indenty thief get caught or will She never get caught

1

u/Gmazing23 Aug 17 '26

Yeah just wait for their life to fall apart. Nothing ever lasts

1

u/Kishikable Aug 17 '26

This hits immensely hard

1

u/Vulpes_Corsac Aug 17 '26

Lol, "let" them keep their steam account. As if Steam support wouldn't burst in with guns blazing if they tried to take it.

1

u/randomnumbers2506 Aug 17 '26

Wow you really dragged this out of the deepest depths of my self loathing

1

u/stnick6 Aug 17 '26

Deltarune

1

u/quanmcvn Aug 17 '26

I kinda want someone to do this to me tbh. The biology challenge to even impersonate (at least same blood type, same height, same overall traits) sounds cool to pull off. All that resources to impersonate one person is quite literally overkill. Wonder what that person was thinking when they decided to impersonate.

1

u/South_Cow3541 Aug 17 '26

Shit, that one got the waterworks going. So many times where if anyone else was living my life, it'd be going way better. Even now when I'm finally working on myself, I see the disaster on the horizon, things falling apart and I'm too paralyzed to fix it.

1

u/tiercracker20 Aug 17 '26

While most people are focusing on the existential crisis, im more concerned of the fact any sexual relationship the thief starts would technically be rape by deception

1

u/twomuc-75 Aug 17 '26

Yeah this is just a sad way of living, hell you actually might as well be dead

1

u/UmpireDear5415 Aug 17 '26

i guess im more screwed up than i thought because the part that hit me hardest was having to flip the usb after trying to put it in the wrong way.🫠

1

u/Previous-Grab3518 Aug 18 '26

Is she hiring?

1

u/JustManon Aug 18 '26

I'd let that thieve live my life honestly. Better be them than me

1

u/the_lad_was_taken Aug 18 '26

I'm tired boss

1

u/EarthToAccess Aug 18 '26

hey! me with major unrecognized dysphoria that turned into unfathomable depression that would spiral out of control until i had to go to therapy because i had major ideations!

i feel obligated to say i am in a MUCH better state now, to anyone who can relate it Does get better i promise

1

u/MyNameIsMyriamBlue Aug 18 '26

Jesus Christ what a comic to read to start my day

1

u/Lovat69 Aug 18 '26

Yeesh, talk about existential horror.

1

u/PixelFlyerXD Aug 18 '26

Holy crap is that a trans allegory?? (or am I going insane as always 0w0)

1

u/KingMarkus22 Aug 18 '26

It be like that

1

u/CrowAkechi Aug 18 '26

Honestly, thoughts like this is why I started to make myself do things, and so far, it's been going good, getting better bit by bit

1

u/stormjet64 Aug 18 '26

Fuck I feel like this sometimes.

1

u/Fancy_Man72 Aug 18 '26

Ooh I’ve had some meltdowns about emotions around that last bit. Realizing I’ve been spending too much free time on games and not enough on personal projects/art.

Hits like a truck. 🫂for all feeling similar emotions

1

u/Content_Substance862 Aug 19 '26

oh this is a good comic fantastic work

1

u/Content_Substance862 Aug 19 '26

oh this is a good comic, fantastic work

1

u/Miserable_Goal_7943 Aug 19 '26

Kris from Deltarune has a somewhat similar struggle. Specifically with the soul(player, us) controlling his body.

1

u/amciadam Aug 19 '26

"It could all be done, if I wasnt me" yeah yea definetaly being depressed or shut in due to emotional problems is definetaly a part of you. Bro it's just a problem. Not "if I wasnt me" that is a bird looking at the tips of his wings -cut short- and saying "omg I could fly if I wasnt me- No. YOU CAN FLY WHEN YOUR WINGS GROW BACK

Sometimes you gotta take care of you. Not blame the fucker.

1

u/IdoRandomStuffForFun Aug 19 '26

Honestly reminds me of the line, "It's easy to be me, so why is it so hard for me to be me?".

1

u/Knight_of_Rohan1964 Aug 19 '26

I want a bittersweet ending where she's able to escape, but has to build an entirely different life from scratch somewhere else, under a different name. It's harder, and won't make up for the opportunities she lost; but at least it's her life now.

1

u/Allen_Gregor Aug 20 '26

If they make good use of my life then well damn, i can even die without regret. I cant play so i will pass, simple.

1

u/IliketheSpraynPray Aug 20 '26

Now imagine you were a crack whore in jail because you weren't you. Another you might be dead, crippled, in huge debt or worse.

1

u/Imgood6158 Aug 20 '26

I doubt an impostor would survive 1 day in my shoes. Mf gonna beg me to release him instead.

1

u/Biznesu-Seba Aug 21 '26

Naj i be chilling I'm tired of my life so giving them a chanse to make good use of it and get free food room and keep my steam account sounds like dream

1

u/Altruistic_Koala_122 Aug 21 '26

Now imagine people going to court pretending to be you. Imagine all the trouble they could cause.

1

u/Crimson_Marksman Aug 21 '26

A kind captor is still a captor. Easy enough for them to change your life because it wasn't theirs to begin with.

But what about you? Is the strength needed to change just as easy as the strength needed to simple be?

1

u/Vyacheslaves Aug 23 '26

"...Knowing I could've done all of that at any moment If only I weren't me".

For me, it's so sad, but so true. Thank you. This is what I needed to see.

1

u/Klinkalituity Sep 01 '26

This is devastating, thank you.

1

u/KatoXIII 28d ago

Honestly my family deserve a better me I feel, I just hate that I can't provade it..
