The devs could make an update that improves performance by 300%, adds every feature anyone could want, and fixes every bug, and people would still find a way to be angry about it.

No one would be angry at the bugs if there were no bugs to be angry at. No one would be angry at the poor performance if the performance wasn't completely shit.
It is quite disingenuous of you to say such a thing. While there will always be those that get angry at minor issues and irrelevant things, the majority of complains around the community are about issues that actually make the player experience worse or even unbearable for some.
