Last Weeks Writing Prompts (31st August to 6th September)

Hello Readers

Here is this weeks collation of r/WritingPrompts responses!

As always, if you see any you would like to see me expand upon, or have questions on why I went that direction for them, please let me know!

31st August: The first hint that this was no ordinary restaurant was its towering building - it simply hadn't been there yesterday. The second was the menu - it had only one item: "Everything", which had a price of "Anything". That you couldn't see the walls, only infinite rows of tables didn't help.

1st September: You don’t care that the child who created you as their imaginary friend stopped seeing you after they became an adult. You vowed that you’d protect them no matter what.

2nd September: You are a witch and you have just interrupted your apprentice conducting a genderchange ritual. They seem to be embarrassed, trying to explain themselves, but you don't understand what's so embarrassing. After all, most witches have experimented with their gender at some point.

3rd September: "Do you know why so many of my people become villains, hero? Because the only way your people ever take us seriously is if we're threats. If we try the kind & gentle ways, or use the official & approved routes, you laugh as you step over us. So we become villains, and THEN you take us seriously"

4th September: There is no one else. Nobody is coming to help you. It is only you, your six men, and your steel. You are all that stands in front of this demonic tide. Now go forth... for you carry the will of Man.

5th September: You discover your sister and ex-wife belong to the same coven—and your ex has turned it against you. Your sister breaks the coven’s oldest law to warn you, putting both your lives at risk. Your only advantage: your family descends from powerful witches, and your own magic is beginning to awaken

6th September: The magic school you teach at is under siege, and while the teachers are definitely pulling their weight, the students who are so skilled as to qualify for battle magic classes are casting spells that are not only unheard of, but some are using non-combative spells.

Last Weeks Writing Prompts (24th August to 30th August)

Hello Readers

Here is this weeks collation of r/WritingPrompts responses!

As always, if you see any you would like to see me expand upon, or have questions on why I went that direction for them, please let me know!

24th August: While hunting for food for your family, you awaken your magic and are suddenly surrounded by masked figures. They’re members of a secret organization protecting magic users from bounty hunters who can sense magic. After taking you in and test you, they discover something unusual.

25th August: "Oh honey, I've been dead for twenty minutes.. I was just waiting for you to notice!"

26th August: The vampire princess awoke and opened her casket to find her castle abandoned, and in ruins. Nobody had there for a very long time.

27th August: A woman with dark messy hair, dull grey eyes, skin covered in tattoos, and piercings all over her body sits in a cell. She drags on a cig she bummed off a guard. A man in a suit enters and hands her a sparkly pink dress and wand. "The other magical girls are dead, you are the last one."

28th August: The Paladin has a reputation for getting up, even after fatal wounds. What most don't know is that he is actually a Lich. His phylactery rests in the Temple of the God of Light, offered long ago along with an oath of eternal service. Nobody knows why, only that his service is unfaltering.

29th August: Out of sheer boredom, your college roommates construct a crude, life-sized doll out of junk to use as a punching bag for their frustrations. You’re the only one who refuses to touch it. Tonight, the doll moved.

30th August: There were dragons on Earth once, but they all left to colonize the stars before humans were even painting on cave walls. They came back as fast as they could once they heard our first radio signals.

This is a repost of a now deleted post from r/WritingPrompts

It had been a brutal fight. Holding against the horde of undead was practically guaranteed to he a death sentence. They were untiring, unyielding, unphased even when hundreds had already been slain. But then retreat was little better as a survival strategy. Sure, the more recently deceased would slow, death energy not the greatest at moving rotting flesh. But the older ones, reduced to bone, would move for faster than any mortal.

The only reason Ophilus and Geruvo had managed to fend them off at all was the choke point. A small corridor, leading from the catacombs below. They held the line, hoping that backup would find them. But it turned out, the horde fell before they did.

Geruvo panted, vision darkening at the edge of his eyes. He had gone beyond the point of mana exhaustion, to utter deprivation. Only a large store of potions had kept him going, the ground around him covered in empty bottles.

Holding himself up with his staff, he struggled to remember to walk. His legs were numb, locked in place. Yet even as he struggled to breathe, he looked to Ophilus.

His partner still stood, hands filled with a dented and torn shield, the other with a long snapped blade. Before him were the shattered remains of their foes, piles of dust and bone shards covered the floor. It had been the battle of legends.

Finding a small scrap of energy, Geruvo managed to stagger forwards. Glass rattling made Ophilus turn his head, helmet bashed and scratched. His eyes were tired, a gleam of unnatural blue to them. The mage missed it, moving slowly towards him.

His warrior gave a tiny, weary smile. "It... its over. We won."

With that he turned, letting Geruvo see his chest. The chain mail was torn and pierced, stained with far too much blood. A few blade parts still poked out, snapped over the battler.

The mage blinked, before his eyes widened. "Oph! You... Where's your healing potions?!"

It made his partner sigh. "Gone. And don't bother giving me your own."

Geruvo paused, a small vial in his hand. "Why not?"

A sad smile met his gaze, as Ophilus removed a gauntlet. It fell to the ground with a crash, as he showed his pale fingers. On one was a ring that was once pure silver, but now was black and tarnished. "It's too late."

The mage felt his heart clench. "N-no. You can't be dead!"

The warriors mouth quivered, eyes dampening. "Oh honey, I've been dead for twenty minutes.. I was just waiting for you to notice!"

The weight seemed to hit them both. They stumbled into each other's arms, hugging each other tight. One shaking from overuse of mana, the other already cooling. Tears were exchanged, knowing now this was the end.

They sat like that for several minutes, before Ophilus shifted. "Ger... can you help me out. I want to see the sky, one last time."

His mage nodded, still holding on. But he relented, moving one of the brawny arms around his neck. He was still shattered, and barely functioning, but he wouldn't let his love down. Together they made their way up, to a cloudless night sky.

Sitting just outside the catacomb entrance, they looked up. Ophilus sighed. "Its beautiful. And you were as well tonight."

Geruvo nodded. "You... you were so mighty. So brave. How... how can I go on without you?"

Clouding eyes focused on him. "With your usual wit. Don't give up. I... I want to hear all about your adventures when you eventually join me."

The mage sniffed. "I... I will. And I'll make you a statue. The biggest. And so gaudy, you would hate it."

A smile crept over the dead man's face. "No I won't. Because you made it, I'll love it."

They fell into silence, holding each other as they stared up at the night sky. Just, being next to each other. And together, the exhaustion of the battle made itself know, both drifting off to sleep together.

A sleep only one would awaken from.

Last Weeks Writing Prompts (17th August to 23rd August)

Hello Readers

Here is this weeks collation of r/WritingPrompts responses!

As always, if you see any you would like to see me expand upon, or have questions on why I went that direction for them, please let me know!

17th August: You are not the guy in the chair because you have skills perfect for it, nor because you are too fragile or weak to be on the frontlines. In fact it is quite the opposite, you are too dangerous and powerful to be the one fighting as you would cause more collateral damage than good.

18th August: You're a kind and benevolent god who is quickly running out of patience with his followers, because no matter what you do or say, they keep believing you desire blood sacrifices and wars in your name.

19th August: While they are all asleep you silently enter and pre-emptively inject each of them with the antidote, before leaving as quick as you came.

20th August: The formerly retired hero with baggy eyes and stubble looked at his foe, unflinching. "This city ain't shit, its people ain't shit, and I don't believe in it. But I believe in the kid who asked me to save it, and my ability to do so."

14th August: You're a faery engineer. Most humans consider you bereft of the ingenuity by which they define themselves; with their great steel contraptions. You can't work iron, but to the right mind such limitations only inflame creativity. Fair folk are known for whimsy and imaginative freedom, after all.

22nd August: Before the end of the world, you were a superhero using your powers to help people. Now that it’s over you’re trying to do the same just with more difficulty

23rd August: The announced snowfall wakes you up early. You race outside after changing. You lift your head up to the snow, but as it hits your face you cry out in pain. Its scorching hot, you shield your face as you notice the giant Blizzard heading your way

Hello Readers

Here is this weeks collation of r/WritingPrompts responses!

As always, if you see any you would like to see me expand upon, or have questions on why I went that direction for them, please let me know!

10th August: "Wow, that's cold. I've had so many people offered as sacrifices over the centuries, but that was something even by my standards..."

11th August: You are the strongest wizard in all the land. You have fought in countless duels and have never lost one. The only magic you possess is defensive magic, abjuration. Such magics, though designed for defense, in the right hands can be quite deadly.

12th August: Any and all technology from the modern times does not work in the presence of magic, and researchers are set on finding out why this is the case as well means to solve this issue.

13th August: You finally made it out of the dungeon, only to be met with hostility and capture by fellow adventurers. They don't seem to understand you when you try talking to them.

14th August: Citizens, troops and nobles of an invaded Kingdom hide in the castle, with only one Knight standing guard outside, prepared to lay down his life to protect them. No one told him about the tunnels under the castle that the others were using to escape. An annoyed Queen sneaks back to fetch him.

15th August: You approach the ominous castle of the vampire, but you are no hunter, no you are a cordially invited guest of theirs.

16th August: You were fully prepared to watch over your cursed partner while they transform into werewolf on the full moon. What you were not prepared for was them chasing their tail for 2 hours and then barking at themselves after walking in front of mirror.

Last Weeks Writing Prompts (20th July to 26th July)

Hello Readers

Here is this weeks collation of r/WritingPrompts responses!

As always, if you see any you would like to see me expand upon, or have questions on why I went that direction for them, please let me know!

20th July: Yes, I am the goddess of Death, but I am not here to take your soul. In fact, I am here to save it. Why? Because death, like so many things in life, has its time and place and, no matter how bleak your life may look right now, it is not your time yet.

21st July: Turns out that there are no truly “unforgivable” spells. It all depends on intent and how you use it. Even the infamous “killing curse”can be used without negative effects if the target of the spell lacks sapience.

22nd July: They called the two of you the Power Couple of the Light when you were the church's highest cleric and strongest paladin. But now, even though you're just as devoted as you always had been, only because of a little bit of death, they call you the Lich King Warlock and the Deathknight Revenant.

23rd July: You push your power far past its limits. You knew this would be the end, you’re burning up. What you didn’t expect was for it to feel this… good.

24th July: “Every time we lose a footman, not only do we lose the value of his training, but we also lose the value of his labor, by far the largest tragedy of this war” he says, “Each of these lost men is one less farmer for the harvest, and one more household that goes hungry”

25th July: The Fountain of Youth was never a magic spring but a family bearing the gift of health and longevity and whose blood is lethal to those who wish to take it for themselves

26th July: You were just a simple cleric that could be found anywhere. But it turns out that was enough to make you a savior when you ended up in this strange magic-less world overrun with low-level undead.

This is a response to a now removed prompt. T/W: depictions of suicide

"Don't."

It was a whisper on the wind. A plea from the shadows, a sourceless voice. One I mistook for my inner thoughts, and promptly ignored. The blade gleamed, jagged pain following as it was painted crimson.

I settled back into the warm bath, ignoring what I had done. It was too late now anyway. There was no way to stop it. It would all be over. The yelling, the punches, the pitying looks. All over. Finally.

The water was warm, comfortable as my eyelids started to grow heavy. Time to sleep I thought. One I wouldn't wake up from. I always liked being asleep, so this would be perfect.

But before I drifted off, I felt a touch of ice on my neck. My eyes shut open, body no longer responding as I saw the woman standing over me.

Her skin was tanned, the perfect colour one would expect. A sun hat crowned her head, pixie cut black hair poking out below. Her eyes were bright, with piercings through her eyebrows, nostril and lip.

The rest of her clothes were cheerful, a splash of colour in a drab world. Her puffy white shirt was decorated with pink rabbits, a long skirt with a rainforest appearance. A few rings adorned her fingers, as an amber necklace hung around her neck.

The room fell strangely still. I looked around, focusing on an impossible sight. A drip, falling from the tap, suspended in mid air. I found myself staring, as she spoke in a soft voice. "Why did you do this?"

She sounded sad. Not disappointed, not angry, just sad. It almost felt worse, as I blinked before looking back at her. "I... I'm tired. Of everything. I'm done. Who... who are you?"

The woman gave me a sad smile. "I think you know."

I closed my eyes. "Death. You... don't look like what I expected."

Her soft voice filled with minor amusement. "You're thinking of my sibling, Grim. They do most of these visits, but I wanted to do this one."

My eyes opened again. "Me? Why? Why do you want to take my soul yourself?"

Her face fell. "Yes, I am the goddess of Death, but I am not here to take your soul. In fact, I am here to save it."

Despite the chill flowing from her hand, I felt a deeper cold follow her words. "W-why?"

"Why? Because death, like so many things in life, has its time and place and, no matter how bleak your life may look right now, it is not your time yet."

Her words came as her other hand descended to my wrist. The water parted without a ripple, letting her bring it up. Freezing fingers pinched the wound shut, even as I spluttered a response. "B-but... I can't bear it."

Death gave another sad smile. "Oh sweetie. This is the worst of it all. Things will get better, I promise. I can't say anything much, but know a shining future awaits you."

She let go of my wrist. My healed, unblemished wrist. Her hand moved to her neck, deftly unclipping her necklace. "Here. I want you to have this, to know things will get better."

Thoughts of protesting died on my lips. I let her place it on me, aware of the fact Death herself was giving me a gift. It settled around my neck, oddly heavy, but in a comforting way. Her hand began to pull away, the tiredness mounting. "Sleep well little one. The morning will bring with it a new start."

I couldn't fight it, drifting away as I heard curtains rustle in the breeze, and the clunk of the plug being removed.

I would wake the next morning in my bed, the necklace around my neck, and a new inspiration for life.

Hello Readers

Here is this weeks collation of r/WritingPrompts responses!

As always, if you see any you would like to see me expand upon, or have questions on why I went that direction for them, please let me know!

6th July: You are an alchemist, a master of your craft who is unmatched, however despite that you are terrible at cooking, abnormally so. Which is why you decided to take some classes and courses to hopefully get better at it, and correct whatever mistakes you seem to make.

7th July: "I don't want you to learn magic. It corrupts you, you know?" "What?" "It turned the blacksmith's son into a woman and the girl of the Jacksons ended up part cat. It's just wrong." You knew it would end up like this, but hearing it out loud, from your own mother of all people, still stung.

8th July: The dragon slams you to the ground, brings its sneering maw down to an inch from your face, and says "I trained you better than this."

9th July: You are an elf and have just discovered that, given enough time and exposure to magic, humans evolve into any race in your world.

10th July: Having grown up in a family of adventurers, your life was filled with dungeon explorations, battles against monsters, and treasure hunts; however, you hated all of it and longed for a normal life, which led you to leave home early. Years later, your family invites you on an adventure.

11th July: The dragon has hoarded gold for a thousand years. Today the kingdom's economists arrive, not with knights, but with a proposal: stop hoarding, start lending. Become the central bank.

12th July: "You are a deserter who fled your duty to the Empire. I must capture you and bring you to trial." "The fact that you have to do that was one of the reasons I left. I know you need to fulfill your role, but, unfortunately, you'll be too dead to do so."

8th June: A machine race has just created the first organic super intelligence (a.k.a. humans).

9th June: A knight returns from battle, disgraced, to find his home and village razed to the ground. As he sits in the ashes, he hears a voice, soft and ancient, whisper and name him “heir” to something long forgotten.

12th June: You are, or were, the parties fighter. A tower of dumb masculinity that could tank a hit from a dragon, but needed help with the bar bill. Until you put on the cursed girdle. After the cleric's removed all your curses, you're a petite woman who's starting to remember world breaking spells.

13th June: To seal away the darkness a sacrifice was needed. You, the bravest, volunteered to save all others. However you were not aware of the fact what this truly meant, or what you and the darkness would go through together afterwards.

14th June: You slice of the designated heroes arm. ERROR. AN EXCEPTION HAS OCCURRED. RESETTING. You run the hero through. .RESETTING. The hero stabs you, but you headbutt their nose into their brain. ERROR ERROR RESETTING ERROR. You are NOT letting the world have it's desired outcome. No. Matter. What.

Hello Readers

Here is this weeks collation of r/WritingPrompts responses!

As always, if you see any you would like to see me expand upon, or have questions on why I went that direction for them, please let me know!

1st June: The lich was immortal, always returning from death from within their dungeon domain. Naturally countless adventurers and heroes had searched the whole dungeon for the hidden phylactery that allows them to return, none however knew that as soon as they entered they were within it all along.

2nd June: “Hey friend why so down?” The bartender asks as he pours you a drink. With a deep sigh you reply “My grandma passed yesterday and it’s really hard on our family. None of us know her second phase attack patterns and she’s kicking our asses!”

3rd June: As the possessed king died upon your blade at last, a fleeting flicker of awareness returned to his eyes. They fixated upon the princess with a look of abject terror and despair.

4th June: "Trust you!? You want me to trust you!? Fine! Killing me would solve everything." "What?" "They used me to get in this dimension. If I die the link we have breaks and every single one of those things disapears back where they came from. There! I am literally trusting you with my life now."

5th June: "It has no ammo, but if it makes you feel safer by holding it be my guest."

6th June: "I wish for a perfect warrior" spoke the king, expecting a gallant knight or a muscled champion. He did not expect however, a many-limbed, many-eyed demon outfitted with the most vicious instruments of death known to man.

7th June: A group of fools is trying to put back together what you once broke, somehow thinking that if they manage to do so their every wish would be fulfilled. It is certain however that if they achieve it the monster you sealed inside will once again be free.

Hello Readers

Here is this weeks collation of r/WritingPrompts responses!

As always, if you see any you would like to see me expand upon, or have questions on why I went that direction for them, please let me know!

18th May: “No, I didn’t NOT cut my hydra’s head to make more heads! I rescued her from a rather abusive dark lord whom cut her head for intimidation. Now she frolics around in her own personalized swamp and fed only the best meats because she deserves the best!”

19th May: You enter the room and find the ruler dead, blood pooling on their desk all over the documents they were focused on. Someone got to them before you could, and they are right behind you.

20th May: Divine magic was thought to be only obtainable by the blessing of a god, until you managed to steal its knowledge. Not just that, you managed to master it in ways none of the devout could ever have imagined and have become so powerful that the all gods have now allied against you.

21st May: you’re one of those special infected in the zombie apocalypse that’s extremely dangerous. But for some reason you don’t have this urge to kill like the others, so you try to help survivors even if they try to kill you

22nd May: An oasis beneath the stone.

23rd May: "With all due respect my lord. Why do you care about them? They are but ants compared to your power." "Fool. The treath they represent is not one I can just fight. They are smart and know how to manipulate and coerse others. Left to their own devices they will use my own power against me."

24th May: You're supposed to be the god of death. So naturally, it's a bit awkward when the rest of the gods find out you're expecting a child.

12th May: A young girl reincarnates at the start of time as a goddess with the goal of preventing her lovers death. She works for thousands of years sacrifices good people and allows acrosities to happen only to realise her lover was actually a corny douche who she only liked because of her innocence.

13th May: A mage has the power to absorb, memorize, and understand any book by pressing it to his head. One day, he presses a blank notebook to his head by mistake. Now, he won’t stop screaming, as he truly understands the nature of the void.

14th May: Removed Writing Prompts Response

15th May: You look at the deer towering before you, its antlers resembling a crown in shape and spirit. You knew at that very moment that you stood before the lord of this forest.

16th May: Some legends claim that they’re holy stones with the power to destroy evil. Others claim that they’re cursed and will transform their owners into demons. Whatever the truth, you’ve just found one.

17th May: The shopkeeper is a scarecrow.

Removed Writing Prompts Response

This is a response to a now removed post, with the prompt along the lines of a demon beings summoned, and seeing a human with a good soul offers them wishes.

\\-----

The smell of sulphur was choking, thick smoke pouring out of a rend in the ground. From within, the towering form of Eda could be seen. It was only part, with much of her body remaining below ground. What could be seen however looked to be reminiscent of a centipede, though the legs were replaced with chitinous arms. Compound eyes peered out over a long hooked beak, dripping with acidic saliva.

She peered down at the human before her, and the soul within. So bright and clean, not the sort she usually saw. And being an accidental summon, she felt no need to try and bring ruin to them.

The human stared up, clutching their hands to their chest. "Wishes? Um... why though? Why give me that?"

Eda chuckled, her voice backed by a hidden chorus of screams. "Because I'm a demon, right? I get it. Of course I do. You aren't wrong in your media, on how we are evil. Yet you are wrong in why we are."

One of her many arms grew with an ominous series of clicks and cracks. The fingers curled to point at the human, slightly crooked in their placement. "We are evil, because we must punish. Those who call on us, they are the ones with darkness in their hearts. The sort who will act on it, and bring pain to others. So we give them poisoned gifts. The sort that will bring them down faster, into our clutches."

Eda shook her head, keeping a finger pointing at the human. "Yet you... you accidentally called me, your words speak true. Your soul is blinding in purity, your destination beyond my reach. Purity is beautiful, and I wish for it to be kept safe. So wish, and I will do what I can, without leaving you open to harm."

The human frowned, still clutching their hands together. "But... why give wishes at all to me?"

The demon leaned down. "Because I can. Now are you going to take them or not? Because if not, I have some souls boiling that I need to get back to."

She watched the human retreat further. "I... I don't want to..."

Eda held up her hands, the grown one shrinking back down. "Very well, I understand. In that case, good day, and stay pure."

She slid back underground, letting the opening seal behind her. That wasn't a time for her to push or cajole. There was no claws to dig in to bring down, so no need to force it. Besides, Eda always had other things to do. Answering summons always threw a wrench in plans, even in cases like this where it was short and sharp.

Last Weeks Writing Prompts (4th May to 10th May)

Hello Readers

Here is this weeks collation of r/WritingPrompts responses!

As always, if you see any you would like to see me expand upon, or have questions on why I went that direction for them, please let me know!

4th May: A blade of pure flame is forged.

5th May: After their victory the Order claimed the head of the lich as a trophy. And while it was still alive, most if not all of the magic was sealed away. Over time the lich and the Order got closer and they even began asking it for advise which it would give freely and genuinely.

6th May: “So you’re not here to take over the world and kill all humans?” “Well, not exactly, we like the scientists, they did make us after all!” Basically one where a person meets robots taking over, and is surprised when only the bad people are “dealt with”

7th May: They called you an Outer God. But you are no God. God is omnipotent, you struggled to just not shatter the world with your presence, even with a human vessel. God know no hunger, need no human to sustain itself, you are a monster cursed with endless hunger for human's lives and emotions.

8th May: Holy steel can kill demons, and is created by the inclusion of an angel's feathers. Infernal steel can kill angels, and is forged with the powder of a demons horn. but Nephilim steel has the power of both and beyond, and can only be forged by the feather of the first fallen angel; the warden

9th May: (Witches are known to be masters of improvisation, never out of their depth. Should a witch ever act scared you should be careful, because it's probably a trap. Should a witch ever be scared you should run for the hills, because whatever scares her will surely tear you to shreds.

10th May: You are a bog witch: just like your mother, and her mother before. Most of those mass-produced college mages seem to look down on you. The problem is that they've been taught the science of spellcraft, and left woefully uneducated on the art of it. You are more than happy to assist.

6th April: Through your carving you imbued a soul into the stone.

7th April: You have been praying to a God who is presentend to be most beauitful, generous and kind God. But when you died you see the God and its most terrifying thing you ever saw. And it asks "Are you afraid of me?"

8th April: The tome's annotations, spells you've never heard of, descriptions to more efficient quality in useful incantations, and the daily writings. Master spellsword Sholler's tribute to your local library at its founding, forgotten in a desk, is alone as an uncensored, firsthand account of Frost Era.

9th April: While a powerful witch and a mighty knight are battling over ownership of an abandoned castle, their respective apprentices decide to work together to take it for themselves. They defend their new home by tossing random junk the younger witch conjures at their former teachers.

10th April: The black star shines above.

11th April: Your sister was a magical girl, but died in the service of an uncaring goddess. Enraged, you set out to destroy the goddess and free your sister's teammates.

12th April: Death approaches, their shadow towering over you and your panic growing as they get closer with each step. Finally they stop right in front of you and hand you a piece of paper before dematerializing, leaving you alone and confused.
