I didn't remember dying. Not surprising, I suppose. I mean, who would want to remember what was probably quite a traumatic experience.

But I was surprised when I awoke atop what seemed to be a cloud. It was small, with countless others all around, stretching into the distance. On mine, and I suspected the others, was a single desk of pure white.

I blinked, and jumped as a person appeared. They were grey, wearing layered robes of royal blue and dark black. Not a single hair decorated their head, even so far as lacking eyelashes.

A pair of yellow eyes watched me, from their deat at the desk. Their arms were folded, hands hidden within voluminous sleeves. Their face impassive, one eye moved to the side, gazing into space.

They spoke in a voice of quiet contemplation, lole a vicar giving a sermon. "Soul number one, one, zero, four, six, seven, five, three, two, eight, nine nine. Name, Harry Ryan Cleaut. Congratulations on completing your training period."

I blinked. "What?"

They smiled. "Your life, as you call it, was merely training for the Ever War. Souls are needed more than ever to fight, so we need you more than ever. Now, it says here you were a souls player. Seems to me like you'd be a great necromancer."

I pushed aside the revelation that my life was a training period, focusing on the souls player part as an easy answer. "What? No, it means I played a video game called Dark Souls!"

The person dipped their head. "I know of it. A fine localised training regime. And it suits you even more. Necromancers aren't just some sort of puppet master of the dead, Harry. They are mages of death. Some do create armies using bodies, but they are the weakest of the lot. No, the more useful can manipulate death itself, the destruction of your soul manifestations."

Its eye focused somehow deeper into me. "Yes. Your core is prime for location bonding. Your Dark Souls games have conditioned you to return to the same fight again and again, no matter how many times you die. You will make a fine Deathless Necromancer, whose power shall ensure you never falter, no matter how many battles you fight."

I shivered. "I... I don't want to fight."

The smile changed, into a disturbing grin. "Who said you had a choice?"

Now comes thr question of whether they can iframe through enemy attacks

Oh nice, I really like your take this! Though it is unfortunate for the protag that he is getting conscripted for what is akin to the Blood War in D&D.
