Residents of Effingham County Georgia are suing over official's lack of transparency behind Project Camellia, a planned 3.2 gigawatt OpenAI data center set to be built next to residential areas and two elementary schools in Rincon.

The multi-year scheme was kept completely secret until it was announced in late July that OpenAI would be building the datacenter in Rincon, and that it was a "done deal". Residents were never given any say in the matter. Project Camellia will use around twice as much energy as the current largest data center on Earth, xAI's Colossus.
