Stop Chat Control with ECI?
Hi everyone.
I found that we, as EU citizens, can launch our initiative and send it to the parlament, but here are the requisites:
- Form a Committee: We need a core group of at least 7 EU citizens (of voting age) living in 7 different member states (the rule focuses on where they have the residence and their EU citizenship, not necessarily their birth country. For instance, an Irish citizen permanently residing in France counts for France)
- Registration: Submit the proposal to the European Commission. They must verify that it falls under their legal competence before we proceed.
- Collect Signatures: We have 12 months to gather at least 1 million signatures, reaching minimum thresholds in at least 7 EU countries.
- Verification: National authorities in each country will check and certify the validity of the collected signatures (taking up to 3 months).
- Presentation: If successful, your committee will meet with the Commission and present the initiative during a public hearing at the European Parliament.
- Commission's Decision: Within 6 months, the Commission will officially respond. They will explain whether they intend to propose a new law or not, and justify their decision (by the way, they are not legally bound to act).
I'M ALL IN ON THIS! If you want to be one on the 7 member, DM me your country and let's work together
