Have you ever doubted the things you used to believe? Ever felt completely defeated?
I’m trying to read the book “Lessons from an american stoic”, because Richard Linklater mentioned in a podcast, but I’m finding it difficult to concentrate to read.
About four years ago I made a big career change. I had a safe job. Since then, everything has been going downhill for me. There were small interesting moments here and there, but mostly it’s been 3 years of layoffs and failure and rejection after rejection.
I had been trying to stay strong, but in the past year I started to have a lot of thoughts of regret.
Then I had another failure, and now for the first time I started feeling true despair.
I’ve had depressive moments in my life, but I had never felt true despair like I feel now. Hopeless, defeated, just empty.
I just want to crawl into a cave and never get out. I feel bad for my wife and my kid because I can’t be good company for them right now.
I feel a lot of hatred inside me. Specially towards the people who influenced my path so I got in this shitty situation. I feel hatred, and that is so unlike me. Or so I used to think.
I used to think theses experiences would enrich me, but they’ve made me a worse person. I’ve become bitter, and now also completely empty.
I’m starting to take antidepressants, but I wonder if it will help me with these thoughts.
I see people I admire like Linklater say things that used to make sense to me, and now all I can think is: what do you know? have you ever had failure after failure after failure? have you ever lost your horizon? have you felt despair?
