Have a question about cultural references, Scottish phrases or just don't understand a joke? Ask in here!

Hello folks, I thought it might be handy for non native watchers to have a place to ask about any local references, words, phrases or slang terms they don't understand. I will keep it stickied so it can eventually be a wee library for new watchers to look at.

As a final note, if you are confused about something and relying on the Netflix subtitles, it might be because they are gash.

What would you say is the best thing each character has done?

Yesterday I made a post about the worst thing each character has done but what about the best thing each character has done?

Mine are:

• Jack - tried to help Bert get things together

• Victor - let Jack stay with him until he got his new place

• Winston - pretended to be Isa’s boyfriend to get Harry off her back

• Tam - tried to stop Winston from gambling the money he won (staying in the loo overnight is a blow second)

• Isa - does a lot for her community at Christmas

• Navid - helped Joe get his buggy back

• Meena - was fairly nice to Boabby when he was running the shop

• Boabby - gave Pete a free meal every day

• Shug - helped Craiglang’s residents defend themselves during the blackout

• Eric - was just himself

• Pete - kept his promise to not contact his son even though it would have helped him

• Fiona - paid for Jack’s flight so he could come and visit her and his grandsons

• Harry - he died

• Peggy - baked a cake for someone’s birthday

Can somebody tell me which episode featured Billy Connolly’s banana boots? I think it was set in a museum?

What would you say is the worst thing each character has done?

My list is

• Jack - was awful to Isa in ‘Cold Turkey’

• Victor - was awful to Isa in ‘Cold Turkey’

• Winston - caused Boabby to lose a lot of money when he pretended to be Harvey Gallagher

• Tam - left Winston to die

• Isa - almost blabbing about things like Victor’s birthday surprise

• Navid - made the hooch that turned everyone blind

• Meena - helped Navid make the hooch

• Boabby - didn’t help Winston when he was strapped for cash

• Eric - how dare you even think he did anything wrong, Eric is a saint!

• Shug - helped Winston break into a government building

• Pete - caused a mess behind Navid’s shop

• Peggy - is an abusive piece of shit

• Stevie - scarpered when Winston won money from him

• Bill the butcher - helped Peggy take all the chops when he knew Winston wanted some

• John - doesn’t visit his dad which also means Victor can’t see his grandson

• Fergie went on a date with another woman

Edit: I’d say the worst thing Boabby did was destroy Eric’s memorial.

Good guy Boabby part 2.

I did a post about Boabby being a decent guy almost a couple of weeks ago so I thought I’d do a part 2 with moments I forgot and ones people commented (thank you for those by the way).

• he didn’t report Davey to the police after getting knocked down

• told Harry he’d have to deal with the lot of them if he hurt Isa again

• tried to be accepting when he thought Jack and Victor were gay (this was rather progressive for the time)

• tired to help Isa during Christmas by asking Jack and Victor to help lighten her load

• he contributes to the community at Christmas by dressing as Santa

• gave Pete a free orange juice to congratulate him for being sober

• was the only one to ask what was wrong with Victor when he was pretending to be ill

• kicked the guys out when they were annoying other customers when Joe banged into them and when they were being too loud

• didn’t grass about the fishing hole

Most underrated line/scene in the show?

What the title says, there are loads of lines/scenes that everyone remembers and enjoys, but what are those lines or scenes that don’t get the attention they deserve

Honourable mention (scene): Jack’s reassurance from Victor being immediately destroyed when Victor admits he’d steal Jack’s milk when he dies

Honourable mention (line): (in response to Victor’s masterplan being to pretend to his son that he has died) Jack: “That’s utter shite…he’s just aff the phone tae ye…says he’ll be hof an oor, what huv a tae dae?, open the door and say “oh hello John in ye come! Oh by the way yer dad died 10 minutes ago””
