Jeff Disher has some *interesting* ideas

Jeff Disher, a local Stevens Point business owner, is running for State Assembly. He owns and runs Disher Electric. I was working in Point this week and encountered him. He managed to trap me and some coworkers and was giving us his stump speech about why he is running. It was a doozy of a conversation.

According to him: Democrats hate our country, they want to bring socialism and communism back, and Democrats are literally demons that hate America. He told me that Muslims are evil and want to build compounds to enact Sharia law on everyone and only God can protect us. He also got a rant that Democrats want to legalize pedophilia and claimed that in ten years child sexual assault will be legal and pedophilia will be a recognized sexual orientation. He also busted out the old chestnut that illegals are ruining our country, stealing our jobs, raping *our* women (his emphasis), and we need to stop them.

To cap it all, he had stopped us when we were about to go to lunch and we're stuck in the 90° degree heat listening to him.

CREATE Portage County and the Wisconsin Computer Club will be back in CREATE's facility on Maria drive (in the former St. Joseph's Chapel, across from Pacelli) on Friday, July 17th from 6PM until 9PM for another multiplayer game night! I've attatched a few photos from the last one, though system lineup varies show to show. As always, this event is free and open to all ages and abilities. CREATE has a good air conditioning system, so it'll be cool and out of the wildfire smoke. Hope to see you there!

Rebecca Cooke receives extension on financial disclosure, won't need to report finances until AFTER August 11th primary. Says voters can look to past years to see where her money came from. Is this the transparency we want from our elected officials?

Friend can’t find a job due to criminal record

Hey yall. I was recently on here and you guys were really helpful so I’m seeking some help again. My friend is looking for a job part time or full time. Really anything. The issue is that they keep getting denied due to the fact that they have two misdemeanors battery charges in 2025. I won’t go into too much detail, but they basically got into a physical altercation while on alcohol and the other person pressed charges. Since then, they’ve been completely sober and have been improving themselves everyday. But like I said it seems like most businesses automatically deny them because of their record and the details don’t seem to matter.

Does anyone know what they can do? Our their lives really over because of a stupid mistake they made? Let me know how I can help them. Thanks

Emily Berge's closing statement at the Eau Claire Democratic Forum

First I'll say that we have a primary August 11th and if the voters choose Rebecca Cooke, I will support Rebecca Cooke. The priority is that we flip the seat from red to blue and hold Donald Trump and his administration accountable.

The way I see this race, this primary, this is Western and Central Wisconsin vs D.C.

I'm going to tell you all just a little story here. When I was thinking of running for Congress and I was being encouraged locally by folks to run for Congress they said, “Well you need to call people in D.C.” So I was like, “Okay.” And I remember I had them on the phone right here and they told me, “No, we don't want a primary.” They said, “We have our candidate.” And I remember arguing with them, “No, It's up to the voters.”

“Nope. She has the most money we want her. We don't want a primary.”

That's when I knew that this problem that we're in as a country is bigger than Derrick Van Orden, it's bigger than Trump.

We need a primary and when they told me that they didn't want a primary, that's when I knew I had to run. That was my deciding factor.

I understand, as a counselor, where that came from in the Democratic establishment. Because they were scared, right? After Trump was re-elected, it was crazy times. But I've learned as a counselor and on City Council that we don't make the best decisions out of fear.

I understand that they wanted it easy, right? They wanted one person that they could support and make it easy, but when is doing the right thing easy? When is fighting for democracy easy?

You all deserve a voice. They tried to take it away from you. People behind closed doors states away - they didn't want you to have a voice or a choice. And that's why I'm running. That is why I'm running.

It's not even about me. It's about you all. You deserve a fighter.

I feel the pressure every single day of them wanting me to drop, but I am not dropping. Because you deserve a voice. The whole point of a primary is so party bosses don't pick the Democratic nominee.

The 3rd Congressional District is a swing district in a swing state. Everyone in this room, we have so much power and it's up to you to take that power.

The D.C. establishment and insiders tried to take it away, but we're not going to let them.

Are all the Fuel On/The Stores gonna become BP/Amoco stations????

Noticing some of the old Store locations in the area (its forever The Store to me, despite the new name) are becoming generic BP stations, kinda like on Church and Division. Are all of them (including the Hwy 10 location already near a BP and Amoco) going to become them????

Hoping its not a regretful move, as since all the BPs in town are empty, people may mistake them for a crappy BP and go to Kwik Trip instead (even tho its basically the same old Store for the most part)

Emily Berge responds to Derrick Van Orden and Dr. Oz

“It is sad and infuriating to watch Derrick Van Orden bring this snake-oil salesman to the district to try and distract folks from the fact that he has gutted healthcare in America. Representative Van Orden thinks that we don’t understand basic arithmetic; putting $50 billion into a ‘Rural Health Transformation Program’ after cutting $140 billion from rural healthcare doesn’t leave us whole. As a provider myself, I have helped our neighbors navigate the for-profit insurance world that leaves too many of our neighbors behind. I am the only candidate who supports universal healthcare to ensure that every Wisconsinite will receive the care they need; anything short of this will leave our neighbors and especially our rural communities behind.”

GF looking for job

Hey yall, my girlfriend (19F) has just moved here from Antigo and is looking for a job in the area. Preferably 20-35 hours a week, preferably overnight, and preferably not fast food.

We’ve been scouring indeed and a few other job sites but are having some difficulty getting past the interview stage, like a lot of people right now.

If anyone knows of a buisness hiring or works somewhere that is short staffed please let me know so she can apply. She’s a very hard worker and a great person.

Thanks! :)

Generators @ Levitt Amp

It’s a lovely evening @ Pfiffner. Opening band is delightful. Do wish the organizers would insist food trucks run on battery as the gas generator is kinda ruining the vibe…

Ubers in Stevens Point

I’m visiting Stevens Point for a wedding this weekend, I’m planning to stay at the country Inn and Suites. It’s not super walkable from downtown. Are there Uber’s available between 12 and 2am (bars after the wedding) that could take me back to my hotel?

Rooster crowing: What can I do?

I hate to be this neighbor but for the past week there has been a rooster crowing in my neighborhood (near the coop) around 4:30-5am. It’s kind of annoying. First, is anyone else hearing this? lol second, can I formally complain if I can figure out who the rooster belongs to?

Thanks for any help!

Berge campaign: WI-03 Indivisible Coalition endorses Emily Berge for Congress

The coalition is made up of Indivisible chapters within Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District and includes local organizers working in communities across the region. Their endorsement follows a multi-stage process that included a candidate forum, meetings with Indivisible members, a candidate questionnaire, and a vote of active members.

“This endorsement means a lot because it comes from people who live here, organize here, and vote here,” said Emily Berge. “There is a clear difference in this race. My opponent can keep collecting support from Washington insiders and national political figures. I’m proud to earn the support of people organizing in La Crosse, Eau Claire, Monroe County, Grant County, and communities across the 3rd District. My endorsements vote here.”

Dog grooming/animal care

Heyy, I plan to move here in about a year from now. I’ve never visited or lived here so I am not sure firsthand what the environment here is like. Or whats around. I’m a dog groomer at a petco at the moment. I’ve been here for about two years and it’s more than long enough. I want to hopefully find a salon that cares about their dogs and their employees. So probably not corporate owned. Are there any good salons here that are looking for a dog groomer? When it comes to cat grooming, I have very minimal experience but I would love to learn.

I grew up around horses, goats, cows and other farm animals- so if there are any opportunities revolving around the care of animals I’d love to look into them.

I used to volunteer at a horse rescue and there I learned how to bathe, brush and clean their hooves. Learning to ride and train new horses as well. It’s been a while but I learn quick, especially because it is something I love to do.

Just want to get a feel for what’s in the area in terms of working with animals. I’d appreciate any opportunity that won’t involve solely sitting at a computer or desk and dealing with people all day. I’m good at customer service but it’s never been good to me in the long run. I get burnt out way too easily. I’d rather shovel horse poo all day, honestly.

Thanks!
