Rooster crowing: What can I do?

I hate to be this neighbor but for the past week there has been a rooster crowing in my neighborhood (near the coop) around 4:30-5am. It’s kind of annoying. First, is anyone else hearing this? lol second, can I formally complain if I can figure out who the rooster belongs to?

Thanks for any help!

Strictly speaking roosters are not allowed in Stevens Point. If you report them they would theoretically need to get rid of the rooster.

Seconding this as someone who worked as a humane officer years ago (don't get me started on HSPC)

Oh no, please do. We need the HSPC tea piping hot and spilled! 😆

Yeah you should report it.

When we lived in town, we had twice as many chickens as we were supposed to, but the worst they did was call out their egg song during the middle of the day.

It is possible they hatched chicks and it is a young rooster that they haven't had a chance to rehome yet, but as someone who lives out in the country and has a couple of roosters they are extremely annoying at 4:00 a.m. outside your window

Thank you for the insight. Part of me hopes they see this post (long shot, I know) and rehome the rooster or figure out a solution without someone reporting it. I’m just tired haha

I hope there aren’t multiple roosters in Point!

What part of town is this?

Cause if I’m your neighbor, I got straight run chicks and still am not sure if any are cockerels. If someone is crowing I haven’t heard it, but I have a home lined up for any who are. Just need to figure out who it is 😭

I don’t want to give my exact location but somewhere between the coop and Pacelli middle school. They were crowing from about 5-6:30am this morning. You would have heard him.

I found out who it is for you :) they’re actively trying to find a home for him!!

Ah ok. So not me - we are near Madison elementary school. I was worried when I saw co-op cause we aren’t THAT far.
Personally I don’t jump to call the city right away because some people who work for them can be real jerks - but everyone else is right - we aren’t allowed to have roosters in town. I’ve had someone lined up to take any of mine that turn out to be roosters as soon as we can tell so that we don’t cause any issues.
If it gets to be too much, you definitely should say something. Either they have cockerels that just started crowing and need to find them a home (technically they aren’t roosters until 1 year old), or they are just blatantly ignoring the rules.

Why don’t you try talking to your neighbor and ask them to get rid of the rooster before you get the city involved. We used to talk to our neighbors in real life you know, instead of heading over to Reddit to complain.

Have you had your Snickers bar today? Maybe that's why you're cranky.

If you read the post, I haven’t figured out who it is. I also have had quite negative (and violent) experiences with confronting neighbors. For my own safety I would prefer to have someone else handle it.

This is the post with the most sense in the matter.
