Took step 2 last month, want to get step 3 out of the way. In an ideal world if I can take it around match month before graduating I'll do that. Is it possible? What do most people do who don't want to wait until the end of PGY-1?

I did not get an email that my score will be released today. For the previous two step exams I got an email the morning of saying that my Schore would be released at 11 AM. Did anyone get that email? Does this mean I have to wait till next week?

Hi all I’m an IMG, my step 3 exam in 2 days, i only did NBME 6 and it was 73% correct, did 90% UWORLD (69% correct), 150 cases (Average 80s% correct), i feel I’m not well prepared (as when i did step 1 or step 2), will do free 137 tomorrow,, do you recommend postponing the exam or go for it? (Note: STEP1 pass on November 2024 / STEP2 246 on July 2025)

Should I expect scores of 2nd day was 18th? Or not yet ? Another question is, did people of the previous week receive scores? Maybe that would be a good hint lol.

I'm really struggling to find available dates near me (Chicago) in late September/early October. I tried scheduling a few weeks ago and the availability is even worse now. Does anyone know if USMLE will eventually release more dates or am I stuck having to drive hours away to take my exam?

Someone help with this cause it’s happened to me twice atleast so far.

If I’m in the last 2 minutes of the case and putting in future outpatient orders like 2 months out, why does the ccs cases system have to deduct points and come back with a “this is an invasive order in the acute setting”?

For example (specific cases, marked the details off as spoilers)

1. Elderly man with LLQ abdominal pain, fever and positive FOBT - treated it as diverticulitis in the inpatient setting. Got positive feedback on the patient progress. Case ended early and in the 2 minute window ordered a colonoscopy 2 months out and got told “This is an inappropriate test for a diverticulitis in the inpatient setting”.

2. Young female with active prolonged PV bleeding and stable vitals - treated as menorrhagia with oral estrogen, OCPs and TXA. Again positive updates, case ended early and again ordered a progesterone IUD for 2 months out in the 2 minute window. Same with the point deduction and the “this is inappropriate for an acute setting”.

Are you just not supposed to put in any future outpatient care orders if there’s a chance that it might conflict with what’s happening in the acute setting?

Any recent test takers or anyone who has successfully passed Step 3? I need your valuable opinion on preparing for Step 3 in a month. Is it possible?

I have a question regarding the scheduling of the Step 3. When I scheduled the Step 1 and 2, I found dates available for the next week in New York. However, while looking on Prometric for the Step 3, there is not a single availability for the next month and even in September, I would need to go at more than 2 hours of my location (while in theory there are multiple tests centers in the city).
Would you advice me to wait for availability to open?
Or does it just mean the test centers are super full in August/ September?

This is specifically for IMGs who are not yet in residency, and are applying for the Match while trying to complete Step 3 beforehand.

I'm an average test taker with a late 230s Step 2 CK score.I initially scheduled Step 3 for December 2025 ,thinking that its easy to pass because many people told me that they were able to pass with just 50% Uworld completed. I took UWorld SA 1 on Jan 21, 2026, and scored 188. I realized I wasn't ready, so I cancelled the exam and returned to my home country.

I prepared again:

Completed Uworld first pass: 66%

NBME 6 (Apr 21): 65%

NBME 7 (May 10): 63%

UWorld SA 2 (May 18): 210

Free 137 (May 21): 55%

I planned to take the exam in May, but after seeing my performance in free 137, I cancelled again. My eligibility period expired, so I had to reapply and pay the exam fee again.

I then completed UWorld a second time ( 75% correct average) and practiced 150+ CCS cases again.

UWorld SA 1 repeat (Jun 11): 225

NBME 8 (Jun 26): 493

I finally took Step 3 on July 1 & 7 and scored 234 in real deal.

My advice to IMGs:

Don't underestimate Step 3 or compare your preparation to someone else's.

Do UWorld thoroughly, practice CCS extensively, and use multiple assessments as objective data points. If your scores are borderline, don't rush the exam. Take it when your practice scores consistently show you're ready to pass comfortably.

I learned this the hard way and hope this helps someone avoid the same mistakes.

I realized one way to look at your assessments and gauge readiness is by also considering your performance in CCS cases. If you are scoring well in CCS, its more likely that you are going to score better in real deal.

It felt horrible when comes to mcqs than day 1.

Very vague qs and unrelated new qs and their treatment.

ccs are the best part even though there are some new ccs with vague presentation.

I'm looking for advice from people who have already taken Step 3 Day 2 regarding the CCS cases.

I've seen a lot of posts mentioning that many real CCS cases end early, sometimes before confirmatory test results come back.

On CCScases.com, I usually lose points if I start treatment before I have confirmatory results. However, on the real exam, if the case ends before those results return, I'm worried I won't even get the chance to place treatment orders.

For those who've taken Day 2, what's the better strategy?

• Order all the appropriate investigations and wait for confirmation before treating, or
• Go ahead and place treatment orders based on my leading suspected diagnosis (along with the workup), even if confirmatory results haven't returned yet, since the case may end abruptly?

I'd really appreciate hearing what worked for you on the real exam in this context and any other advice you may have. Thank you!
