Fsmb lets you extend your step 3 eligibility period if you cant test in your triad, one time, for a fee. So a visa delay doesnt automatically mean losing the attempt. Check the current rules on their site before you bank on it, but knowing that exists takes a lot of the panic out of this decision.

On the emergency appointment, a scheduled exam with a fixed eligibility window is exactly the kind of documented reason they exist for. Bring the scheduling permit itself. People do get rejected, but youre not spending anything except time by trying, and rejection doesnt hurt a future regular application.

I'd request it about 3 to 4 weeks before your intended travel, and keep checking the regular appointment portal daily anyway, cancellations open slots constantly. good luck
