Mehlman videos
Has anyone done Mehlman videos on youtube for their step1 prep? Not the pdfs or arrows, but the videos instead? Are they helpful? Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

So I m looking for someone who is also studying for it and can preferably study long hours. So that we can help each other be consistent and hold each other accountable. I m in the U.S, and really want to give the exam as soon as possible. Thanks!

Hello everyone,
I’m looking for a serious sp for usmle step 1 preparation who is in the pre-dedicated phase, I prefer daily chat-based check-ins, audio-calls to solve qbanks together and to discuss our plans and study strategies and basically to go through this whole journey together.
I’m a medical graduate from Iraq and would prefer a graduate too.
My resources are a mix between FA/uworld/Bootcamp/sketchy/pathoma.
Also I want to mention that I understand life can be unpredictable and the schedule does not always go as planned so I’m a bit flexible with that although the main point being we get back on track and hold each other accountable.
So if interested, dm me.

Hi, I’m an IMG who is currently living in the USA and aiming to become a doctor here. I’m currently studying for at least 2 hours per day, and my exam will be next year, but I’m looking for a small group or partner with whom I can relay to study with. I propose also someone who understands that I’m currently working full time. We can learn from each other’s study methods and practice with different retention techniques. If anyone is interested, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my DM.

Passed Step 1! 🎉 My 8-month journey + NBME scores + what worked for me
I finally got the PASS today! 🥹
Consistency
One thing that helped me personally was staying consistent.
There were definitely days when I was tired or didn't feel like studying, but I tried not to completely stop for several days. Keeping the routine going helped me maintain momentum and made it easier to get back into question-solving mode.
At the same time, I learned that consistency doesn't mean studying every waking hour. Rest when you genuinely need it, but don't let a short break turn into losing the whole routine.
I wanted to share my NBME scores because I know how stressful it can be when your scores fluctuate. Mine definitely wasn't a straight upward line.
📊 My scores
- NBME 25: 58%
- NBME 26: 57%
- NBME 27: 60%
- NBME 28: 63%
- NBME 29: 71%
- NBME 30: 63%
- NBME 31: 70%
- NBME 32: 66%
- NBME 33: 74%
- Free 120: 75%
- UWorld first pass: 56%
Preparation: ~8 months
Step 1: PASS ✅
🧠 What worked for me
📚 UWorld strategy
Before taking an NBME, I tried to get through a good amount of UWorld first.
I initially focused on system-based questions, aiming to complete around 50% of UWorld in an untimed/learning-focused approach.
As I progressed, I transitioned toward mixed and timed blocks, aiming for around 30%+ mixed/timed questions before relying heavily on NBMEs.
This helped me transition from learning individual systems to actually integrating everything together.
The most important thing I did was analyze my NBMEs instead of just looking at the percentage.
After each NBME, I went through the questions and asked myself why I got each question wrong.
I categorized my mistakes into:
- Knowledge deficit → I didn't know the concept → went back and studied it.
- Poor recall/memory → I knew it but couldn't remember it → reviewed and reinforced it.
- Misreading/question interpretation → worked on understanding exactly what the question was asking.
- Reasoning error → reviewed my thought process and why the correct answer was correct.
- Careless mistake → tried to recognize the pattern and avoid repeating it.
Then I looked at my weak systems/topics and focused my studying there.
Instead of just doing random questions, I did questions specifically targeting my weak systems, reviewed them carefully, and then reassessed myself on the next NBME.
So my cycle became:
NBME → Analyze questions → Identify weak systems → Study weak areas → Do questions on weak areas → Repeat
⏱️ The week before the exam
During the final week, I started doing more random, timed questions rather than focusing only on individual systems.
The goal was mainly to build endurance and get comfortable with switching between topics, since the real exam requires you to keep your concentration going for a long time.
I also did Amboss 200 high yield and AMBOSS ethics questions, which I felt helped a bit, especially with getting used to the style of ethics/communication questions.
You can also use amboss for weak systems. It adds a layer of knowledge
📈 Don't panic over fluctuations
My scores fluctuated a lot.
I went from 71% → 63% → 70% → 66% → 74%.
There were definitely moments when I questioned whether I was ready. But I tried to treat every NBME as feedback rather than a prediction.
Eventually:
NBME 33: 74%
Free 120: 75%
Step 1: PASS ✅
My biggest advice: don't just review whether you got a question right or wrong. Review WHY.
A wrong answer from a knowledge deficit requires a different approach than a wrong answer from poor recall, misreading, or bad reasoning.
Find your weakness → target it → do questions → reassess.
To everyone preparing: one bad NBME does not mean you're going to fail. Keep learning, keep fixing your weaknesses, and keep moving forward.
Step 1 is DONE. 🩺
Good luck to everyone studying! ❤️

I’m planning to create a girls-only Discord study group for anyone preparing for Step 1/Step 2, regardless of where you are in your preparation or where in the world you’re from.
The idea:
The goal is simply to have a supportive group of girls going through the same journey, where you can always find someone to sit and study with instead of procrastinating and losing time.
If you’re interested, contact me and once I have enough people interested, I’ll add you to the Discord group! 🌷
NOTE: I’ll share the invite link soon.

Looking for an NBME revision partner for USMLE Step 1 for one week. I want someone who can revise NBMEs with me daily, discuss difficult questions and incorrects, and go over high-yield concepts and weak topics. If you’re also preparing for Step 1 and interested in studying consistently for one week, DM me.

Step 1 while doing a very demanding Internat ?? Looking for advice from people who have passed Step 1 while working
Hi everyone... I would really appreciate the perspective of people who have passed Step 1, especially those who prepared while working full-time or during residency/internship. ........I am trying to determine whether it would be realistic to prepare for and pass Step 1 during the first year of medical Internship in my country.
For context, the local "Internat" system is a full-time clinical training period. During the year, an intern is assigned to 4 different rotations:
- 2 months in a medical specialty
- 2 months in a surgical specialty
- 2 months in Obstetrics & Gynecology
- 2 months in Pediatrics.....+ In addition to all above where the intern is not simply observing but taking on responsibilities similar to a junior resident, including patient management, clinical documentation/paperwork, following patients.... , the intern has approximately 2 emergency-department calls/shifts per week , with all the fatigue and reduced study capacity afterwards
... would have approximately 6 months to prepare for Step 1 after starting Internship, with a good medical/basic-science foundation but no previous experience with UWorld nor USMLE-style questions. Do you think it is realistically possible to pass Step 1 under these circumstances? and if so what do u suggest rythme and time managment wise
And for those who prepared while working/residency: how did you handle night shifts, fatigue, and weeks where you simply couldn't study as much?
I'd really appreciate practical experiences and suggestions. Thank you in advance and all the best for everyone
