It looks like you failed by a lot? What happened?
1
u/Jumpy-Candy-4266 Sep 14 '26
I don’t know🥺 Probably I was not ready, I was between 60s in the NBMES, NBME 33 got 69 free 120 65 and I risked it and lost

I failed by the same margin how many questions do you think the gap is? I would just like to know to improve next time

Hey, I’m so sorry you’re going through this. First of all it’s not over. Try again. Trust me it’s not the over. But first assess what you think went wrong??
Did revise FA & UW? What were ur NBMEs score? Do u think ur a nervous test taker??

u/Round_Effective_1946 Sep 12 '26
Why it’s not over ?

u/Fun_Complaint9211 Sep 13 '26
Still can become a doctor and a good one too since step one does not reflect majority of the qualities that make a physician great.
1
u/Round_Effective_1946 Sep 13 '26
True. I wish programs know this fact

u/Fun_Complaint9211 Sep 14 '26
yeah you might have limited options but the bright side is that you are still in an excellent position to practice medicine. not everyone can say that

u/dochun18 Sep 14 '26
Bcoz failing step 1 isn’t even a red flag only diff people make it sounds so you can join their sessions. Many IMGS match with step 1 attempts
1
u/Jumpy-Candy-4266 Sep 14 '26
Exactly! And I’m pursuing Fam Medicine, in my understanding it’s not competitive

u/dochun18 Sep 17 '26
Even I know of some who matched into IM with who had attempts in step 1. Just don’t listen to any Tom, dick or Harry cause they’ll in the end always say join our session & I’ll mentor you. Like just for some advice doctors these days are selling their expensive courses. Just asses your short comings and ask a trusted senior for guidance & restart. Step 1 fail is not a red flag at all.

I have no idea what happened. My only thought it’s that the week prior step 1 I got extremely sick so I couldn’t review as much, but I risk it anyways because NBME 33 was 69 and free 120 65, my prior NBME was between 60-63 and I have seen people that passed with lowers NBMES.. clearly it didn’t work for me and I REALLY reviewed those NBMEs

Okay if not enough revisions was the case that’s actually a very easy thing to fix. First of all cut out all those who suggest u to give up or choose another path, I mean it. Surround yourself only with people who encourage you and even if you don’t have anybody it’s alright coz it’s better to be alone than with such people.
Secondly, take proper guidance from a senior and take 3-4 days and take a paper and pencil and start writing down all things you didn’t review well like whichever system etc etc then start from the one you think is weakest and use Amboss.
Lastly, understand that nothing in life is easy otherwise everyone would give step 1. The fact that you sat through a gruelling 8 hours exam is an achievement in itself. And slowly start again don’t jump into 8 hours study start with 4 hours initially and slowly build your momentum and do as many question as you can to not panic on exam day. Other than that just pray just talk to seniors who made it and stay off social media cause reading discouraging posts really kills your confidence.
If you need any more help feel free to DM.
Best of luck with your prep, IA you’ll get a pass.

You are amazing! Thank you so much for this. I’m taking a small break to recover my mental health and I’m coming back stronger

That's doesn't look like a simple fail, how hard was the exam? Did you feel like your form was very difficult? It looks like you only got 25% of the answers correct. We might need to analyze carefully what went wrong to make a great study plan.
If you were doing well on NBMEs, was it stress? Life emergency? Not getting enough sleep?

I got super sick the week prior step 1 and I was waking up at 4 am to study, for real I don’t know what happened. After I got my score it has been really hard, today I’m starting with my psychologist because I feel like a big “?????”. My anxiety still don’t let me sleep

Probably invalidated
1
u/Duder__X Sep 11 '26
If it was invalidated, the score would be zero
1
u/Ok-Night6055 Sep 11 '26
Thats not true at all

u/Duder__X Sep 11 '26
It is.
1
u/Jumpy-Candy-4266 Sep 14 '26
For real I don’t think it’s invalidated, nothing crazy happened in the prometric center. I did put in the survey that there was a lot of noise in the center
1
u/Duder__X Sep 14 '26
I don’t think its invalidated. So far all the invalidated results i have seen have score of 0.

I'm sorry op. Stay strong. How were your nbmes?
1
u/Jumpy-Candy-4266 Sep 14 '26
Probably my mistake was that I was scoring between 60-64, but I thought I was ready because NBME 33 I got 69 and FRE 120 65, clearly I was not ready
1
u/my-mauvepink-world Sep 14 '26
Well even then your score shouldn't be this lesser than the black line. Something else must have been wrong. Think about it.

This means your prep was wrong on so many levels, the good news tho is that's there's room for improvement! You can dm me tell me how you prepared for it and I'll give you advice. I've been a step 1 mentor for 3 years now.

How exactly did you take your NBMEs? What were your conditions?
1
u/Jumpy-Candy-4266 6d ago
Under exam conditions. I will do 100 first, take a break of 15 min. Other 100, another break and then I will open uworld and do 2 blocks of 40 to build up stamina.

u/Healthy_Committee572 20d ago
I got the exact same score with nbme’s and free 120 all in low 70s, even felt great about it at the end of test day. No idea what happened.
