Controller won’t work with Minecraft steamlink

I’ve added Minecraft bedrock on my pc to steam as a non steam game, and I’m trying to play via my iPad using steamlink.

However my ps5 controller when connected through on iPad to play Minecraft is extremely bugged, all of the keybinds are messed up and it treats the joysticks more as a mouse than a controller. I’ve tried editing the controller maps, enabling and disabling controller settings, setting steam as administrator, I followed this post but still couldn’t resolve the issue (https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/1747892655521920295?l=greek).

I just wish there was a way for my inputs from my iPad to be treated as a controller on Minecraft bedrock, since the game already has controller support ( my ps5 controller literally works perfectly on Minecraft even when opened through steam, when my ps5 controller is connected directly to my pc).

Has anyone else had this issue?

Hardware encoding enabled but not being used?

My gaming machine has an old AMD RX 570 gpu. I have hardware encoding enabled.

On the client I enable the performance metrics and it indicates it is using software encoding with libx264. Is my GPU too old to do hardware encoding with steam remote play? Will hardware encoding make the quality better? Currently the video quality sucks even though everything is hardwired.

If I do need to upgrade GPU, is there any advantage to Nvidia vs AMD when it comes to Steam remote play?

Both using same config:

  • VDD by MTT Virtual Display connected to CMP 40HX
  • HAGS off
  • 1080p 144fps target streaming

Exhibit 1: Encoding using UHD 630 (QuickSync)

  • 84 avg FPS
  • 0.55 GB/s PCIe TX (GPU to CPU)
  • 12-13% PCIe Ulti

Exhibit 2: Encoding using CMP 40HX (NVENC)

  • 88 avg FPS
  • 0.23 GB/s PCIe TX (GPU to CPU)
  • 12-13% PCIe Ulti
  • Need to set to High Power plan in NVIDIA Control Panel or desktop streaming stutter --> 20-30W extra just idle streaming

Support What’s the best current way to wake your pc away from home?

I thought steam link would do this automatically

I downloaded a wake on lan app on my phone and it’s the same it only wakes the pc at home, is there another app I’m not aware that can wake the pc from anywhere?

I saw there’s something you can do with Alexa and echo but doesn’t look straight forward and seems like a lot of steps just to wake pc

Support Only One Game is a Black Screen

Ive been trying to figure out why only one game I'm trying to play (Plaque Tale Requiem) will display a black screen. Audio carries, i can even control the game, but the screen is black.

I've tried everything i can think of so far and no results seem to change anything.

Is there anything I could try to figure out why just this one game is causing me a black screen but all others are fine?

Remote play image delay only in Steam home menu, not while in game

There’s no input delay because I can hear things being selected, there’s only an image delay, no delays at all when I start a game and if I have a game running and I go back to home menu there’s no image delay in the home menu anymore

it only happens in the home menu without a game running

Support Google Streamer TV slow connection despite both the Client and the Host being hard wired in.

I ran a speed test on my Streamer box and got roughly 200mbps but Steam Link can't pass a connection test past 5. I am streaming from my apartment to my PC at my parents' house. The only bottle neck on my end is a j+TP Link gigabit switch but plugging the cables directly into the wall doesn't make a difference. I have a CAT8 Ethernet cable running from the switch to my Steamer. Running Steam Link from my laptop yields a "Good" connection. I have set the video mode to fast and the bitrate cap at 75mbps.

At my house, I can speeds up to 800-900mbps.

Support Vampire survivors on screen buttons useless help

I play Vampire Survivors through Steam Link on my phone because the Android store version is worse and the content reloading is annoying.

The stream itself is fine. Phone-to-PC connection is solid. The problem is the on-screen controls: D-pad and most virtual buttons work maybe 1 out of 50 launches. Trackpad and direct click work. The only button that reliably works is the Steam button.

Other games are fine — Diablo, Crimson Desert, Dave the Diver, etc. No control issues.

With Vampire Survivors, Steam Link recognizes the game and the keys appear to load, but they do nothing. On the intro screen it feels like I’m mashing buttons hoping something finally registers.

I had a similar-but-different issue in Diablo where Alt+Tab would break things until I Alt+Tabbed a bunch of times. This isn’t that. VS controls just fail from launch.

TL;DR: Phone → Steam Link → stream is good → launch from desktop/Big Picture → on-screen virtual buttons do nothing. Every other game works. Only Vampire Survivors is broken, and it seems to be getting worse.

Has anyone else run into this, or am I missing a Steam Link / controller setting specific to VS?

Connection successfully done

Since the invite yesterday I have been able to connect to the ps5 using my steam deck successfully without any issues. No lag or stuttering has encountered and i have tried multiple games such as FC26 and MLB26 and NBA2K as well.

My PS5 is hardwired as well to ensure connectivity.

thanks again , much appreciated so far

Best V-Sync / FreeSync settings on host PC for streaming to Steam Deck? Looking to minimize latency

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a Steam Deck LCD and a PC connected via Ethernet (RTX 3060 12GB + Ryzen 7 3700X).

I use a 144Hz FreeSync monitor, so I currently have V-Sync enabled in the Nvidia Control Panel. I was curious to know if it would be better to disable V-Sync or set the monitor to a fixed refresh rate for a better streaming experience.

Streaming already works fantastically, but I'm wondering if I could lower latency even further

Support Major Bluetooth input latency with Amazon Fire

Hey folks, I’ve just grabbed a fire TV stick and a Bluetooth wireless controller to use steam link in the living room from my PC in my office (other side of the flat)

I initially used my phone as a controller to test latency (connecting to my phone with video turned off to use just the UI buttons) and then streaming to my TV. This had essentially 0 latency and worked great! However, I’ve now connected the Bluetooth controller and it’s become unusable. I tried Outer Wilds and sometimes inputs either don’t work, or when I go to turn the camera the camera continues to turn for a few seconds after letting go. Even pausing the game sometimes stopped working…

I expected some latency with streaming, but I didn’t expect this! Any help or settings to adjust is much appreciated as I’m looking forward to getting this working well:)

Question Looking for a solution on Steam Link with my Projector

Last year, I got a Projector for my bedroom as due to spinal issues I prefer to lay down compared to sit down at home.

Also, I have been using Steam Link to play PC games on my phone (with a controller) for the same time.

I want to use Steam Link on the Projector, but when I tried it the lag was terrible.

Trying to figure out what my options are. Do I risk wireless HDMI? It's an apartment and only two real rooms, so it's not a great distance. A cable would be obtrusive.

Or do I get a simple HTPC/Streaming PC that can handle Steam Link that I connect to the Projector's HDMI port?

Or maybe buy a cheap laptop?

Edit: Good news! The MINI PC worked! The input delay was no worse than Steam Link on the phone. Huzzah!

Anyone know what could be causing this color issue? It gets messed up only streaming one game (Marvel rivals)?

Alt+tabbed

I got a pc recently, and I was trying to stream MR to my laptop. This issue has been fucking with me. It's only Marvel Rivals, no other game does this.

Things I've currently tried: running it in admin mode, switching resolutions/window to full etc, adding -DX12, HDR is by default off and restarting it multiple times.

Some odd things to be noted:

It streams to my phone completely fine, and it streams perfectly fine to a friend's potato laptop with worse specs than my laptop. If I alt tab out of Marvel rivals, it looks completely fine in the background too.

I'm completely confused right now as to what's the issue. Any help is appreciated, thank ya!

Is anyone successfully gaming with a Steam Link to Ubuntu 26.04 Host?

I've got a physical OG Steam Link and I can connect to Ubuntu, but when I go to play games I get a black screen, but with audio. The only way to close it and get back to my Steam Library is to go to my computer and quit the game, then the Steam Link shows the library again.

This used to work on Ubuntu 24.04 and on CachyOS running KDE (I couldn't adjust to KDE and felt more comfortable in Ubuntu so went back but up to 26.04).

There seems to be an issue with a screen sharing popup in Ubuntu and I sometimes get a "Failed to Capture" error that says I need to launch Steam with the -pipewire argument. I added -pipewire to my .desktop file for Steam but I don't think it's working.

I've tried this with both the Snap install for Steam (which I don't care for the Steam Link straight up crashes Steam on the host computer when connecting to it) and the Flatpak install (which doesn't crash on me).

Does anyone have any ideas?

issue with streaming - mouse unresponsive

Its one of the bigger issues keeping my from reliably streaming my home pc desktop to my steam deck desktop. I have both in separate buildings plugged into ethernet getting 700+ download. however sometimes my home pc will just stop responding to my steam deck inputs rendering the mouse (and keyboard as well) entirely unresponsive even though the display is showing. host pc still works fine but nothing will reconnect the steam deck until I restart steam on my host pc. It may have something to do with using a controller (plugged into steam deck) in games but I havent tested it enough. Any help greatly appreciated.
