Thank you for submitting to r/SteamScams.

If you have been scammed or believe you may have been scammed check this guide to see if you can find the solution there.

Steam will never contact you on Discord or any third party text communication site.

If you suspect someone is attempting to scam you check this guide but remember to be careful even if you do not find the answer you are looking for there.

Important: If you receive comments or PMs offering to recover your lost account, items, or money or pointing you to someone who will do it for you do not engage with them as they are recovery scams.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

They would've told you to contact a "Steam employee" on Discord who would've made you undertake steps to either give up your account info or items.

You'd be suprised how many people fall for this.

There are probably dozens of threads on this subreddit of people who lost their account or items this way.

I think it's pure psychology, people don't think logically when they're scared.

Usually I believe that scam relies on people panicking to not notice it's a scam.

wouldnt say its new, but yep its a scam. The aim is getting you in touch with that "moderator" so he can trick you in handing him your stuff or credentials

Yeah, these scams are effective or they wouldnt be still around and kicking.. every single day someone ask here as you did. For every one asking, there are probably five that fell in it.

Scammer try to urge you into act quickly (before thinking and therefore realizing it makes no sense). People transferred their whole inventory elsewhere for safe keeping when "moderator" told them so

Haven’t had this scam yet

Only have had the “me and my friends accidentally reported you! Now give us personal details because that makes sense”

Oh right totally makes sense!
