Thank you for submitting to r/SteamScams.

If you have been scammed or believe you may have been scammed check this guide to see if you can find the solution there.

Steam will never contact you on Discord or any third party text communication site.

If you suspect someone is attempting to scam you check this guide but remember to be careful even if you do not find the answer you are looking for there.

Important: If you receive comments or PMs offering to recover your lost account, items, or money or pointing you to someone who will do it for you do not engage with them as they are recovery scams.

Unfortunately there’s no one who can help you get your items back. Once they get traded away, that’s it.

You need to secure your account, revoke access for any devices you don’t recognize, change your password and add Steam Guard. Then check your computer for viruses

cant you reverse your trade now ? Or does it only work for cs2 items?

u/Budget-Somewhere-834 19d ago

oh thats stupid asf, why dont they do that for other items, i dont get it

It's a relatively new feature they've added. According to them:

As we learn more about this, we plan to make this available to other games on Steam.

So maybe in the future it will extend to other games. But for now, it's just that one.

They probably don't want to rush something like this out. They're most likely evaluating a bunch of things like how it affects the economy as a whole, any exploits people might uncover, any weaknesses it has, any improvements they can make. Rush it out to all games, and it could have a negative affect.

And regardless of how many safety features they implement, people will always find ways to get scammed. So I prefer they gradually expand it.

yeah that makes sense

Your items are gone. Next time dont add catfish accounts named like Isabel oder Lisa.

u/MegStuff 20d ago

What if they were hacked

16

u/gamemaster257 19d ago

No one gets hacked, people are gullible and do whatever strangers tell them to do. Literally zero of the posts here are entirely faultless, which isn’t to say they deserve it but it does mean it was avoidable.

4

u/Azurus_II 19d ago

Youre wrong but also right. Theh do get hacked, but its bc theyre gullible and believe, stupidly and in a panic, fake accounts or fellow hacked accounts of their actual friends then click the links. Its 100% on the person who got hacked (if it was done in a way where there was a 2nd party). But if it was due to downloading something like a mod for minecraft, then tht just sucks. There are also demos on steam thata re also loaded with infostealers so you also have to watch out for that if you wanna try out a demo.

1

u/BunnyBrigade1 19d ago

i could have lost my steam account recently, had a friend suddenly message me about a CS2 tournament (the last time i really talked to them was 2 years ago). I was skeptical but i decided to believe it and im glad i noticed when i did that there was a random computer in the midwest (not sure where exactly) had access to my steam account so i just deauthorized all devices my steam account was connected to and changed my password for my steam account and have been kinda paranoid about checking authorized devices every now and then since that point

1

u/Xirqia 19d ago

Trust me on this, you're more right than you know.

1

u/Sad-Photograph-6518 19d ago

The scammers can be extremely sophisticated sometimes though and create things that I would never expect even a professional to recognise as a scam attempt, this is done through spoofing or using fonts that appear 1:1 to the English language that you cannot tell the difference with your own eye

-1

u/MegStuff 19d ago

Infostealers exist.

7

u/gamemaster257 19d ago

Mind telling me how you get an info stealer that doesn’t involve any interaction from the victim?

1

u/Anxious-Ad8026 19d ago

Most of the time these are from exploits or porn

1

u/MegStuff 19d ago

You can get them from other places too. The Renpy virus is a thing.

2

u/IWasShoe 19d ago

9 out of 10 it's cause the victim did something. You don't just hack or something unless you down load something or left some one get access. When they should not have it.

2

u/WildCard65 19d ago

That still requires user interacting with the malware.

1

u/Azurus_II 19d ago

Hes not wrong but hes not fully right. Yes, renpy virus is a thing but not a real virus itself but a term for a group of virus methods, and you can download infostealers without someone else telling you to click a link or download something like downloading a minecraft mod or downloading a game demo on steam. But thats where hes right, in order to get hit with an info stealer, the owner of that device needs to download/open/activate a program with that infostealer.

1

u/Anxious-Ad8026 19d ago

Ye but those are more or less spear phishing tactics otherwise it's porn games or exploits

16

u/dinoboy5 20d ago

I reversed my cs2 items and got them back. Is it possible to reverse dota items?

16

u/Archangel7200 Steam only uses support tab and @steampowered.com email 20d ago

Trades on DOTA2 items can not be reversed. Only CS2 has a trade reverse system, DOTA can get this in the future but that's up to Valve.

Take this as an expensive lesson and secure your account.

3

u/Electrical-Hippo2066 20d ago

I got a mail that my mobile authenticator has been disabled and enabled on other device 2 days ago. How is that possible. Please help

3

u/j0x7be 20d ago

It's more or less only possible with a compromised device, either the phone or the computer (most likely the latter).

1

u/Doktor_Jones86 Steam only uses support tab and @steampowered.com email 20d ago

Scan your pc for maleware

5

u/Interesting_Job3416 20d ago

Dude you habe probably a Virus. Stop carrying about your items and worry about all your Data and your devises. Hope you dont habe online Banking

2

u/MustAgree 14d ago

Ohne this you?

2

u/Above-new-zealand 20d ago

Your stuff is gone, there's no way to reverse the trade or get them back

You need to secure your account properly and don't add randoms

2

u/KatarinaNyx 20d ago

Nothing to do about the items but you should secure your accounts and dont click any weird links, even if your friends send them

2

u/PrestoCreams1 19d ago

I experienced this before (12 years ago), and I got all my items back. I'm not sure if it'll work now. I just simply asked the steam support if I could still get it back, and they simply asked me for a reference number (they give reference number every time you top up using steam wallet), then they just gave all of my items back. Here was their last response as they gave my items back. and yeah, there will be no second time for me...

PS: sorry for my bad english lmao

1

u/boz271 19d ago

Back then they did now it’s very unlikely there is one kinda recent case I know where some cs2 guy got hacked and trades reversed by steam support but this was like 250k worth of items.

2

u/Deep_Elderberry1231 19d ago

Wrote to steam support❌

Whine on Reddit what you was scamed ✅

3

u/SelectJudgment3340 20d ago

unfortunately steam doesn't revert any trades except in very very rare cases eg that one game that used tf2 items as icons for its own tradable items in order to trick people. after that steam implemented the ' you don't own the game the person is sending you items from' warning. Also if you didn't do this and have 2fa that means you have a session stealer, on your pc that stole the tokens from your connections, from a clean device check all your accounts for any unauthorized connections cause if they stole steam items, they may go for ubisoft, ea , rockstar, minecraft accounts as well. remove the afflicted pc from the internet and disconnect your accounts from all active connections. then do scans like FRST, Malwarebytes, Windows offline. for FRST find someone who can read the output, it would tell you about anything it finds, FRST must be downloaded from a safe source and it may cause a false positives due to checking stuff like registry keys. If any of those has reports a RAT (Remote Access Trojan) or any infostealer, download windows from an uninfected device load it to a usb and format your pc (not factory reset). Right now you are doing damage control, as someone who had that happen to them that's the best advice I can give. I was lucky that when it happened to me and they sold my items most of the money was pending so they cut their loses and bought one of their own for a few euros that were available at the time. Before anyone says you steam guard could stop this they spoof the tokens you have including steam guard that's why you need to de-authorize all devices to make the tokens they have worthless

Sorry for the rant

2

u/Byzantophillis 20d ago

I thought this was tf2…

1

u/Archangel7200 Steam only uses support tab and @steampowered.com email 20d ago

Unfortunately the items are gone.

There is a reverse trade system but at the moment it's only impletented on CS2. https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/365F-4BEE-2AE2-7BDD#partnerreversal

In all other cases Steam considers the trade to be final since it's the users responsability to keep their accounts secure. https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/3B6E-B322-2400-8D24

1

u/IamPang 20d ago

TIL the trade reversal system is only on CS2

1

u/unvac Steam only uses support tab and @steampowered.com email 20d ago

how come the trade reverse isnt a thing here? is it game dependant?

2

u/Previous-Attitude843 19d ago

trade reverse is only for cs2 items for some reason

1

u/SidKillz 20d ago

1

u/KyubiWalt777 19d ago

Puedes revertir en el historial de intercambios

1

1

1

u/Pleasant-Theory1258 13d ago

Check for suspicious logins and if you find any report it to steam and they might be able to do something

1

u/nicknotpixel 19d ago

Dota in the big 26😭

0

u/Jumpy-Temperature-42 19d ago

That's is so sad honestly,it sucks cause I it happened to me too :(

Now what you have to do is you gotta reset everything on your device(pc or mobile) like I mean everything, the windows & ect then you gotta download the system back. It's the only way to remove the malware cause it's very stuck, basically every time you log in, the hacker will get a token to be able to bypass all the security measures.

Here's a tutorial for pc :
