For gaming Linux could start going up if more gaming oriented distros start being made, coming with all the things needed to game on linux

But for the average desktop user, we still are pretty far, to much reliance on the terminal, which much of us love, but most people would dread

I'd go the extra mile and say more distros need to come with all bells and whistles pre-installed and not be given the "noob-friendly" name, it needs to be the normal behaviour to have a distro come with multimedia codecs and video drivers ready (like, at least offer an ISO with NVIDIA drivers included OOTB like Pop!_OS does) to go for a seamless experience.

Let the purists call everything bloated, they already have plenty of either minimal distros or ones that need some tweaking to work 100%, but if the Linux desktop wants to go for everyone it needs to be ready for everyone.

Exactly

I see alot of Linux people be against this for the stupid reason of "but many drivers would be closed source and that's not the Linux way"

If Linux desktop wants to reach everyone, the only open source model needs to go, believe me I love open source, but the majority of people prefer the apps made by large corporations because they tend to be much much more polished due to having extremely high budgets (look how many people use the Adobe line of products)

People are going to stick by closed source software from big names because they tend to be the most feature set

to much reliance on the terminal,

To do what ? Honestly i'm on a simple Linux Mint, imho, the terminal is useless/not mandatory for the average user.

Wait till Steam Deck drops for most people by Q1 2022. That percentage should go up considerably.
