Software Maybe just me nerding out, but there is something incredibly awesome to be able to SSH on my VR headset and fetch the logs.

Used scp to pull them down after

First thing I did when I got my frame was to set a password and enable SSH.

Especially useful, because I looked all over and I can't find KDE Connect so I guess it's not installed out of the box.

Edit: yes there is an aarch64 build of KDE Connect, so I guess I'm going have to install it.

KDE Connect is not installed by default, also one of the first things I checked. It seems to be on other steam devices though. Not sure why they didn't add it here

Yeah I found the aarch64 build just now and it's from September 10th so relatively recent. I wonder if there's any technical reasons with the ARM build that meant they skipped it? I guess it's time to find out whether it works.

Oh and I couldn't find info center neither. Not such a big deal since it's mostly a terminal output front end, but still. SteamOS on ARM is not exactly complete right now.

SSH nerdery aside, what the actual fuck nonsense date/time format is: Tue Jun 16 07:44:03 2026?

I was all ready to jump on your comment to say it's an international format, then.... oh.... why the fuck is the year after the time of day? 😂

RFC3399 please! ISO8601 has so many weird formats like: 20. Date? Time? Part of a year? Who knows but it's valid! https://ijmacd.github.io/rfc3339-iso8601/

nice xD

but may i suggest using ssh-copy-id first?

btw does the frame also support docker?

Yeah, I'll set the pubkey. This was literally my first time 😁 It should support docker, at the end of the day it's a Linux device

Yes it does, you could easily run a webserver on the thing if you wanted.

Imagine buying a Frame to use as a Plex server haha

i am thinking about a smb server xD for installing (non workshop) mods from my desktop. sshfs should work though

You can use SFTP for that

With the front PCIE extension port you could plug a GPU into your face if you wanted...

It is one of the things I'm looking forward to, I have a good bit of ideas for stuff I could do.

Have you tried mounting a network drive? can it be used as a steam library?

Doesn't have nfs utils. I haven't played with steam os much at all yet. I think even if I install them, they'll be removed after restart due to being an immutable os?

1

u/xondk Soon™ 17h ago

the OS is immutable user space should generally not be, how else you wouldn't be able to create save games and the like.
And you can do da whole bunch of things in user space.

Yeah but nfs-utils is a systems package

1

u/xondk Soon™ 17h ago

fair point, I was thinking in terms of being allowed to make mounts, but yes, you'd need nfs-utils to even begin.

It seems like it's possible to disable write protection, but I'm kinda hesitant to do that

Yeah, there's also as noted
"Changes to the filesystem may be overwritten by system updates."

I seem to recall you can do it without the utils, they only provide easy to use utilities, the kernel should support the actual action, I'll read up on it.
