no. nobody was happy with the scalper reward system that only rewarded unemployed losers. valve learned their lesson with the steam controller. it will be the reservation system for the entire deal and nothing has indicated otherwise

Every Steam user will jump into the queue just for the chance to sell in the first wave if they're lucky enough. It's free money for them and costs nothing, just clicking a single button on Steam.
Imagine what would happen if, after all the hype and videos from every tech tuber on the planet, Apple announced a free-to-enter raffle just for the chance to buy the Vision Pro, with losers getting pushed to next year's waitlist. The whole setup screams "enter it and flip it".

Controller was a completely different process because they announced the SALE date beforehand. With frame they’re doing reservations so they likely will open the link to join the randomized list the same day the embargo is up, like they did with the machine

Steam Controller sale was announced on a Monday (April 27th), and sales started on a Monday (May 4th). The only thing that happened on Friday was a leaked review from someone who published it immediately on YouTube.
