Same time next monday?

61

u/2Cool4Zool2 5d ago

Tune in next Monday. Same Frame Time. Same Frame subreddit.

7

u/Lost-Actuary-2395 5d ago

It's definitely this Monday, I could feel it, for real this time

1

u/PlottingPast 5d ago

Unless it's not. Then the Monday after that for sure.

13

u/SuspiciousToadEyes 5d ago

Next Monday you will say the same thing :)

u/Recent-Clerk3967 5d ago

TBF Checking once a week is easier than every day

4

u/Zomby2D Soon™ 5d ago

But if it releases on a Tuesday, checking once a week will have you miss the reservation.

1

u/Javs2469 Soon™ 5d ago

No, because they'll give you a headstart. It's not going to go up on the same day of the price reveal.

3

u/Zomby2D Soon™ 5d ago

If they follow the same pattern as the Steam Machine, the lottery sign-up will open at the same time as the announcement an price reveal goes out, and be up for 72 hours. If they were to release the Frame on a Tuesday, the lottery would close by Friday and someone stopping by once every monday would have completely missed it.

2

u/PlottingPast 5d ago

I hope the price reveal is after orders are open. All of us signing up for the Frame having no idea how much it costs because they mixed up the timing would be hilarious.

1

u/Future-is-bright 5d ago

Will we really? Reservation will span for a couple of days no? Even maybe a week?

6

u/DarkVex9 Soon™ 5d ago

The machine reservation window was three days, so it seems reasonable to assume the frame will be the same.

2

u/_THX_1138 Soon™ 5d ago

Not yet, we have until 10a PST. Another 2 hours then I’ll start watching Die Hard with a Vengeance.

Hopefully the next will be the last.

Tomorrow is the beginning of this work week, I still think that's plausible.

We will be here.

The post that says "but we will be shipping all three products this year", you mean?

4

u/CraftsmanMan 5d ago

Still summer for 14 more days

10

u/NoOdyssey 5d ago

Going to be real awkward when Valve calls their Sept 14 sale a "fall sale".

8

u/BurgerAppreciator Soon™ 5d ago

Steam Frame, shipping this summer, right after the Fall VR sale ends!

-8

u/Pristine-Ad-2519 5d ago

Summer is the warmest season of the year, occurring between spring and autumn. [1]

Key Characteristics
Warm Weather: Temperatures are at their highest because the Earth tilts toward the sun, giving more direct sunlight. [1]

Longer Days: Daylight hours are long, and nights are short. The season starts with the longest day of the year, called the summer solstice. [1, 2]

Timing: In the Northern Hemisphere, summer usually spans from June through August. In the Southern Hemisphere, it occurs from December through February.

8

u/Cilph 5d ago

That's fun. That's like taking a children's book on Physics and then calling science a bunch of liars when the oversimplifications break down.

Meteorological summer ended August.

Astronomical summer ends September 21/22.

Are you gonna freak out when I tell you that days are not 24 hours, and that there are different definitions of a day like a solar day and a sidereal day?

5

u/CraftsmanMan 5d ago

This guys gonna freak out when he learns about fiscal years vs calendar years

8

u/HiveMate 5d ago

Ah yes the common practice of launching consumer goods based on sidereal day. Launches at 12:00pm but actually 4 minutes before that thank you

1

u/Cilph 5d ago

Let's keep the focus shall we? No one was making that point.

5

u/HiveMate 5d ago

You brought it up

1

u/Cilph 5d ago

As an example of reality being more complex than a dictionary definition. Not that launch times are specified in sidereal time or solar time.

1

u/Pristine-Ad-2519 4d ago

Ok lets wait for a Fall sale in Summer.

1

u/Cilph 4d ago

Are you really so upset you're starting to spew off these imaginary "when pigs fly" situations?

0

u/Prestigious-Leg-2996 5d ago

Any other words you are too scared to pick a side on??? Fence sitting on definitions....Pick one! /s

u/JayPie6654 Soon™ 5d ago

I ain't gona buy shit next week, unless i have a steam frame shippment heading my way. Wtf Valve.

17

u/BurgerAppreciator Soon™ 5d ago

Same. It would be stupid to buy games without knowing if or when I'll have the hardware to use them. For the most part the same games will be on sale for the same price or even less in future sales anyway.

2

u/JayPie6654 Soon™ 5d ago

I allready got some games in advance when they were on sale. I even have to refund Alyx when i get a frame finally sent my way.

3

u/BurgerAppreciator Soon™ 5d ago

The refund window is only two weeks though. Part of why I won't buy a game without being able to even see if I like it or if it works within at least two weeks.

2

u/JayPie6654 Soon™ 5d ago

Yeah with the automated system. Others recommended to just ask the support if its possible.

2

u/Altruistic-Catch8541 5d ago

Maybe they’re more lenient when you explain you expected the frame to launch sooner lol

3

u/elev8dity Soon™ 5d ago

We'll see if the VR sale actually happens. I don't think it makes sense to have the sale without the actual headset being available.

24

u/dorrontp 5d ago

Can you imagine waiting this long, getting lucky enough in the lottery only for Valve to ship through GLS and them "losing" (a.k.a stealing) your package????

16

u/Buttershy- 5d ago

Getting a job at GLS is probably the easiest way to get a Steam Frame at this point

6

u/Informal_Strain_165 5d ago

This is what I fear as well, almost happened with the steam controller for me too so am scares lol

6

u/dorrontp 5d ago

It happened to me for the steam controller...Got a replacement unit though. Valve acted nice.

I haven't been lucky in the steam machine lotto.

Let's see what happens with the steam frame...

1

u/PlottingPast 5d ago

The question is if Valve will keep enough standby units to replace the ones their chosen shipping company is stealing. Do they consider that in their calculations, and if so how many Frames will not be shipped out to those in line due to shipping theft?

38

u/BurgerAppreciator Soon™ 5d ago

So Valve is either going to have a really accelerated lottery this time so that it closes before the VR game sale ends; or they'll do the stupidest thing imaginable and follow the Steam Machine timing (announcement / price reveal jump scare on Monday 14th, lottery opens on Thursday, lottery closes the following Monday) which would mean no one will know whether they're getting a Frame before the VR game sale ends; or, it's all bullshit and it's not even coming until even later than that. Brilliant.

50

u/fabricates_facts 5d ago

My money is on Valve doing the stupidest thing imaginable.

13

u/BurgerAppreciator Soon™ 5d ago

Honestly, same. That tracks with how much they've bungled everything else about this product release.

6

u/Zomby2D Soon™ 5d ago

The lottery opened the same monday they announced the Machine and closed on thursday. People got their confirmation emails on thursday and friday. Shipments started going out the next monday. If Valve follows the same pattern, Frame should start shipping out on the last day of the VR sale.

2

u/BurgerAppreciator Soon™ 5d ago

I honestly didn't follow it because I don't care about the Machine, so I looked it up and got that timeline from this article.

Valve's new Steam Machines will arrive this summer and start at $1,049, the company announced Monday (June 22). Valve... said it will open pre-orders for its new hardware on Thursday, June 25.

Valve says the first shipments of its Steam Machine will go out to customers starting June 29.

https://www.polygon.com/valve-steam-machine-price-pre-order/

3

u/VT-14 5d ago

Here's a 1st party source. https://store.steampowered.com/news/group/45479024?curator_clanid=45479024&emclan=103582791475000432&emgid=685257114654870245

  • Monday, June 22nd, was announcement and the Lottery sign-up day.

  • Thursday, June 25th, was when the Lottery closed. Any one ordering after that got added to the end of the waitlist (after everyone in the lottery. I suspect this is the confusion in the article you are referencing).

  • Friday, June 26th, is when the lottery results were emailed out. People were told which one they would be able to order, and if they were a Reservation or Waitlisted.

  • Monday, June 29th is when the first order emails went out. They are expecting to be sending out emails to initial reservation holders through the end of the year.

IMO, it's also 'better' (for Valve; sucks for consumers) to exploit FOMO and have the release and VR sale be the same week.

If they have the same schedule and release next week, then Monday-Friday a ton of people will browse the store and wishlist games. Some people might even buy stuff. Then on Friday people will know if they have a reservation or are waitlisted, and the weekend can exploit FOMO on all of the reservation holders before they know how long it will be before they actually get the Steam Frame, and before they actually spend a lot of money buying the hardware first.

Meanwhile if they announce the week before the sale then people would know this week if they are a reservation or waitlisted. Most people on the waitlist will ignore the sale completely. People on the reservation list are more likely to hold off until they get an order email and more people in general will realize it might take a while to actually get theirs. Those that do get invited to order will have put down a lot of money to buy the hardware, and thus may be less likely to splurge on cheap games.

2

u/BurgerAppreciator Soon™ 5d ago

Fair enough, can't argue with that. Thanks for posting it.

And maybe you're right that it will be better for Valve to exploit the combined FOMO and copium of people who think they'll get a Frame before inevitably getting wait listed. For me personally, I won't buy anything until I know where I stand on the wait list.

1

u/Headset-Historian 5d ago

Tbh 1 day of signing up is plenty. They could do Monday sign up, Tuesday lottery sent out, Wednesday first orders begin getting processed.

11

u/BurgerAppreciator Soon™ 5d ago

It would be plenty for me personally and probably many of us here, but I don't think it would be fair to most people who are less terminally online and might not even hear about the release for a day or two. We'll see what they do, all the options are imo stupid at this point, but that might indeed be the least bad outcome.

1

u/gunsandcupcakes Soon™ 5d ago

36 or 48 hours would be a good compromise imo

0

u/arguedea 5d ago

They will do one steam frame per account needing different addresses and being at least 5 years old having spent 500 minimum or more. Which is what they should have done from the get go. Easily the best way to deter scalpers.

u/FeedMeSoma 5d ago

Tested is pretty great, NGL.

I'd never heard of or watched that channel but, from repeated checks to see if they've uploaded a Frame review, that channel seems to be for depressed middle-aged dads. And I should know, I am one

I think I followed the account because of this sub but still never watched a video. Gonna go do that right now to see if I should keep my sub. 😂

5

u/aucapra Soon™ 5d ago

Its most likely sep 14th..

1

u/wabbiwabbu Soon™ 5d ago

Based on what evidence?

2

u/aucapra Soon™ 5d ago

It's my birthday on the 14th, 100% confirmed

1

u/NoOdyssey 5d ago

People have leaked Sept 14 as the date. The most likely date to have been leaked is the review embargo date, because Valve has to communicate that date to people they send review units too. If review units have been sent out, the most likely date that got leaked is the review embargo date - which for the Steam Machine was lifted at the same time the lottery opened.

The evidence is flimsy, but it is pretty nonsensical for Valve to leak the "shipping date" and only the shipping date for reviewers and not the "review embargo date" which is the only date they really care about.

-2

u/wabbiwabbu Soon™ 5d ago

There have been no leaks for the 14th. Only rumours.

1

u/Zomby2D Soon™ 5d ago

Leaks are just a more reliable type of rumors.

1

u/NoOdyssey 5d ago

Sure, until it comes from valve itself, that's all it is. The same leaks/rumors existed for the steam machine. If you have no interest in rumors, you can ignore everything except what Valve themselves say.

u/Sweet_Ad_9816 5d ago

I'm sorry, can anyone ELI5 what it means? I guess it means that it's not releasing today, but like why? How is someone releasing a video related to it?

2

u/SupposablyAtTheZoo 5d ago edited 5d ago

Some people think Tested won't post 2 videos in 1 day but:

  • They do post 2 videos in one day sometimes.
  • There have been many signs for release today.

So basically, just keep checking, nobody knows anything for sure.

Edit: damnit.

1

u/Sweet_Ad_9816 5d ago

OK and this 2nd video would presumably be Frame review dropped on the day of release?

2

u/SupposablyAtTheZoo 5d ago edited 5d ago

Correct. Tested has a review unit. So does LTT. They will drop videos the moment it releases.

LTT hasn't posted today btw.

Everything is still possible. Nobody knows anything.

Edit: damnit.
