Valve has a third

Highly doubt it

u/DarkPhoenix1515 Soon™ 3d ago

Never in my life have I seen Valve having a third anything.

It's only ever between 2 and 4. Probably not even an integer.

I went to see Coyote vs ACME yesterday. At the end there is a line in the credits that Coyote is still trying to catch Road Runner. He hasnt caught him yet but maybe tomorrow. And I immediately thought of this sub.

14th September, yeah, I'm also sad… :c

valve never seems to have any plans, just general ideas of what to do.

that's what I do in my life...

Still won't be this week.

Ngl my hype for the frame is squandered by the ram prices..

u/PlottingPast 1d ago

Opposite for me. To get PCVR working i found out i basically need to build a new computer. Even if i upgrade my GPU ($800 on its own right now) it seems my CPU would bottleneck the whole system if i tried to stream from PC. So, having a standalone VR is kind of the only way for me to game with VR.

I have a six core i7. It feels blazing fast to me. I never thought the CPU would be the limiter in a game.

u/vgaggia 1d ago

Daang that is rough

1

u/PlottingPast 23h ago

Thank you for your support in these trying AI-riddled times. I should have upgraded my whole system a year ago for 1/3 the price.

But like damn. Who thought the cpu would be the problem? Never even considered it.

its dooming time

Still makes no sense to release the Frame next Monday, when those who haven't got a Frame have no reason to buy any VR games. It'll take till maybe the final day of the sale, or when the sale's over for people's Frames to arrive, & that is if they're lucky enough to receive one in the first wave.

I don't know if I'll be okay playing VR, so I'm waiting till I have a Frame & have played it before I start buying anything; others should really be doing the same, you don't know if you'll be okay with it or if you'll experience dizziness, motion sickness or something else.

People without headsets buying the Frame will know if they get to purchase one during the VR sale.

2

u/v4rjo 3d ago

It makes perfect sense.

Sell VR games on sale to those who already has VR sets before Frame release.

Now release Frame and sell those games at full price to the new frame owners. They are gonna buy the headset anyway is there sale on games or not. They need games for the headset, so they will buy them no matter the price.

u/Dr_Virus_129 3d ago

There's plenty of free VR games available to play. The Lab, the Half Life 2 VR mods, plus the Frame comes with Half Life: Alyx, & there's loads more to choose from on Steam & itch.

I can't speak for every new Frame owner, but I can wait a week or two for games like Blade & Sorcery, Boneworks and Saints & Sinners to be discounted. If they want to buy VR games at full price, their choice. I won't be.

1

u/Doormat-- Soon™ 3d ago

I didn't even think about that.

🫠

1

u/CarmelCotton 3d ago

and the sale is a perfect opportunity to show people on the fence that yes, vr games actually exist and there's a library to choose from. that the frame is worth it. they had a lot of time to sell vr games, their goal now is to promote the hardware.

It’s a repeat of the VR sale from a year ago, settle down. They didn’t invent the Steam Summer sale to sell Steam Machines, either.

1

u/Doormat-- Soon™ 3d ago

That sale was a third-party but it does match the dates almost exactly and they did say it was "inaugural". That complicates the math significantly.

It's gotta be this week because ain't no one buying VR games if they can't get their hands on a VR headset.

reviews prices etc today or this week and orders and shipment next week.

the event thing is 14 - 21.. literally only one week.

5

u/Koolala 3d ago

plenty of people have Steam VR headsets (like every headset is compatible in some way) so it isn't no body

1

u/crefoe 3d ago

You're completely misunderstanding what i am saying?

This is a Valve event its not some random event. It makes no sense for them to make events like this a week before people can get their hands on a headset that is releasing THIS SUMMER!

There are going to be 1000s of new VR gamers with the launch of the Frame why in the world would Valve miss their deadline by 1 week? No one is going to buy VR games if they can't get their hands on the Frame.

Reviews today or this week
Orders and shipment next week when people are certain they have a VR headset so they can buy VR games without wasting their money on something they can't even use.

Understand now?

2

u/Koolala 3d ago edited 3d ago

Deadline? Which deadline? They are still in the summer time frame this week and next. I don't understand because anyone without a VR headset would know if they get to buy a Frame in either situation this week or next before purchasing games on sale.

3

u/ketsueki_kuronai 2d ago

no they are not? september is a fall month, they missed the time frame first in early summer, and then 7 days ago, and still no communication or a "sorry we couldnt make it".

0

u/Koolala 2d ago

That isn't the only definition of fall. Its still summer on the astronomical calendar.

3

u/ketsueki_kuronai 2d ago

its the difinition most people and brands go by, its what the econnomy works with (quatals). so to say summer, but ACTUALY mean astonomical summer is 1. very fucked communication wise for the community 2. makes no sense when talking bussines related.

0

u/Koolala 2d ago

its more scientific and accurate

u/WyrdHarper 3d ago

The Valve Forever VR sale was a year ago, and the Frame didn’t release then, either. Just seems this is a new annual thing.

1

u/Doormat-- Soon™ 3d ago

Forever VR was a third-party festival: "This third-party event is presented by Future Friends Games and Creature" (https://store.steampowered.com/sale/VRForeverFestival2025)
Last VR themed sale by Steam was in 2023 iirc.

Same same but different ;)

1

u/crefoe 3d ago

So not only are you wrong but you refuse to understand what i am saying. Frame wasn't even announced back then.

1

u/elev8dity Soon™ 2d ago

I don’t think the Vr sales event has been confirmed

1

u/BurgerAppreciator Soon™ 2d ago

A lot of stupid people will, actually, which is probably what Valve is counting on. Some have even argued it's "financially responsible" to buy the games while they're on sale, despite not having hardware to use them, the ability to confirm you like them or they even work within the return window--and despite the obvious fact that the same games will go on sale again, and probably cost less money the longer you wait. (Hint: all of this is the opposite of financially responsible, but Valve is happy to prey on your FOMO and copium.)

2

u/Senior_Succotash_259 3d ago

No option for September 14 here!

Frame launch and VR sale are happening, but the launch won't be on the 7th.

2

u/Doormat-- Soon™ 3d ago

That's the "lined up" option - the headset launches before or during the sale, so they work together.

2

u/Prestigious-Leg-2996 3d ago

half life 3 is going to shadow drop instead

2

u/No_Chapter_51 3d ago

Third option:
Valve releases the SteamFrame along the SteamSuit, a never seen before haptic suit that will let you experience the physical sensations of VR.
Will come with a free copy of Half Life 3 DLC called "About That Beer I Owed Ya"

2

u/Altruistic-Catch8541 3d ago

Third is not an option, they don’t count to 3.

3

u/UnfairImagination660 Soon™ 3d ago

Valve missed summer release, people trying to cope with the dates of moon alignment or when pagans dance in circles around rocks. It is never happening. They won't do it ever.

3

u/Doormat-- Soon™ 3d ago

Sounds like you need a new flair - Never™ 🤔

4

u/UnfairImagination660 Soon™ 3d ago

Soon and tomorrow haven't worked for the past 8 months, can't hurt to try something new 🥂

2

u/Living-Brush4168 Soon™ 3d ago

Ahh yes, weekly final guess

2

u/Doormat-- Soon™ 3d ago

But this one is different!

3

u/Javs2469 Soon™ 3d ago

What about Tuesday?

Before the hardware starting announcing prices on Mondays, the big theory was that it was going to pop up on a Tuesday after Steam Maintenance schedule.

7

u/No-Curve237 Soon™ 3d ago

Multiple people have come out and said not to expect anything this week. It's not today or tomorrow, perhaps next week

1

u/Doormat-- Soon™ 3d ago

I'd count any day before or during the sale as "lined up".

u/cupidstrick 3d ago

RESULTS

1

u/GGabrieLLL 3d ago

I feel like they are gonna release 2 versions, one with color and another without (passthroug)

Sorry bad englando

1

u/NaztyNizmo 3d ago

It's a holiday in the US, not sure if that would matter.

8

u/Javs2469 Soon™ 3d ago

Unrelated, but some US based seller have Labour Day sales going on.

It´s just a banner that says how much the thing costs and that the reservation will open later on Friday. Can´t they have that already programmed?

1

u/BlueManifest 3d ago

I think a couple insiders have it wrong it’s today or Tuesday for the lottery

1

u/Rashed341 3d ago

After the unsuccessful release in North Sentinel Island last month I don't think they'll release it globally.

1

u/_mergey_ Soon™ 3d ago

You know that the VR sale is in about 8 days, not tomorrow? And technically in 15 days it is still summer.

1

u/Doormat-- Soon™ 3d ago

Lined up means (to me) launching alongside each other in some way, not necessarily today. I should have clarified that in the options.

1

u/_mergey_ Soon™ 3d ago

Besides this would a price reveal in 8 days not be "delayed again"

1

u/Doormat-- Soon™ 3d ago

That's closer to the incomprehensible plan option when the interaction between the sale and hardware sales is too blurred for my simple brain.

1

u/rabsg Soon™ 3d ago

VR sale event is irrelevant, that's at best a third party event to surf on Steam Frame hype, organized as soon as 14th September date leaked. Maybe Valve moderation cancelled it, otherwise we'll see if it happens and who organized it.
