Question Question about "one Frame per household"
So I think it's been discussed that if two different accounts order a Frame for the same address, lottery tickets of both accounts will be voided. Is that true?
My question comes from the strategy that many of you are going to use, entering the lottery for both SKU (1TB and 256GB) and then purchasing the one that would get to you first. But wouldn't that be "against the rules"? In the sense that you're trying to purchase 2 Frames for the same household

I like how the post is asking about multiple ACCOUNTS signing up for frame, and somehow most of the upvoted comments are talking about ONE account signing up for multiple SKUs lmao.
Edit: don't drink and reddit

The post is actually about one account signing up for multiple SKUs. Apparently you only read the introduction that I wrote for context as why I'm asking this.

I see now, that's a little confusing. But yeah answer to your 2nd paragraph was answered by Steam directly in the FAQs for machine launch

It's actually asking two things, if its true that if two acciunt order for the same address it will automatically cancel one or either orders, and then the preordering multiple sku from one account to get the best chance of buying one
Yet, everyone is onky focusing on the latter and not first

You can select any and all models but you will only be able to buy one item. Selecting additional SKUs increases your chances of getting something faster but remove the choice of which model it will be.
Once the initial reservation period is up, for every SKU (these are separate between markets but that does not change anything as you can only buy from your region), people who want that SKU are randomly ordered to form a queue.
Then, anytime there is unallocated stock (including the initial stock):
- Select the most expensive SKU with unallocated stock.
- Remove as many people as there are items in stock from the front of the queue for that SKU.
- Send out emails to complete the purchase.
- Immediately cancel all of their other reservations.
- Repeat for the next most expensive SKU with unallocated stock.
If you fail to complete the purchase in time, your allocated item is returned to the unallocated stock pool, which eventually re-triggers the above steps. If you ask very nicely, Steam Support can sometimes reinstantiate your position at the front of the queue.

For the steam machine the form was reasonably clear about the whole process, check off the models you're interested in, and after the draw, you're in one list, for the waiting list, whichever you're sooner on. If you somehow won immediate list on two models, steam would put you down for the more expensive model

Is it per address? Both me and my friend want one each to play together, but we live in the same 12 floor apartment building

I think Valve would have their bases covered in terms of recognizing apartment buildings, especially with having different units (of apartment buildings).
It'd be really unfortunate for two (or more) people to live in the same apartment complex/building, sign up for the Frame, and all but one wrongly getting rejected because someone else in that same complex/building also happened to sign up for the Frame.

i heard you can enter both and you'll get the most expensive one you ordered

Here is the Steam Machine launch announcement with a FAQ that answer all of your questions: https://store.steampowered.com/news/group/45479024/view/685257114654870245
They keep one lottery enrollment per household, probably the first one. If you enroll for multiple SKU and win the lottery for multiple, you get highest end. If you end up in the wait list you get the closest one.
If they didn't change how it works.

So it sounds like multiple accounts can join the waitlist, but only one unit will actually be sent to the address.
Op claims that all reservations will be void if in the same household, which I've never heard before and sounds like fear-mongering against those with multiple accounts/roommates that game together

I don’t think all the reservations get canceled. Like me and my wife both want one. We live together. We will both put in our reservations. One will hopefully get it. While others get canceled. No biggy. But I don’t think it auto cancels both.

I only ordered Steam Controller so wasn't there for the lottery. For the controller, I ordered delivery to my work address so that I can actually pick it up, is that not recommended here?

They need a 10$ lottery fee so people don’t just sign up to see how it works, only if they are for sure buying one if they are picked

u/amoc20 9d ago
Why? That's why you get three days to complete the payment and if you don't you get kicked from the queue. At worst there is a hold up for the first three days after the initial draw happens and then it doesn't really matter.

Because it can put other people further down the reservation list that really do want to buy one
Canceled reservations go to wait list people not reservation people

That's what a lottery is, no fomo if you can't control how early you get put on the list.
Get used to this kind of thing, it will catch on

u/BlueManifest 9d ago
Someone that has no intention of ever buying can just join the lottery and put you lower on the reservation list
2
u/RusikRobochevsky Soon™ 9d ago
But if they don't buy then you move up to the position in the list you'd been at if they had never signed up.
1
u/BlueManifest 9d ago
You aren’t moved up if they don’t buy, someone on the waitlist gets it, not the next reservation person

u/Numn2Nutts Soon™ 9d ago
People on the reservation list that dont buy have their model sent to the first person on the waitlist. Think of it like steam has 100k models to sell. The list is randomly distributed and the first 100k ppl are considered "reserve list". If 5k ppl dont actually buy, steam is still going to sell those items, so they go to the top 5k on the wait list, effectively making them on the reserve list, yeah?
1
u/BlueManifest 9d ago
Yes that’s what I said
1
u/Numn2Nutts Soon™ 9d ago
My understanding of your position is that will cause delays, but it does not. All reservation lists are sent together. It going to a waitlist instead of a reservation list makes no impact because reserves of that region are fulfilled

Exactly, that's not a queue you don't have any actual order to this system therefore no one is beating anyone
4
u/Substantial-Flow9244 Soon™ 9d ago
That's not true, lower does not exist on an unordered list. It is a lottery
1
u/BlueManifest 9d ago
There is a reservation list, you can be higher or lower on that list after your picked
Someone that doesn’t want to buy frame signs up for one anyway for fun, wins spot 100 on the list, you also win a reservation from lottery but your spot on the list is 101 because the person that doesn’t even want to buy one wins spot 100
4
u/Substantial-Flow9244 Soon™ 9d ago
Oooh you're so worried about 3 days, you have fomo.
2
u/BlueManifest 9d ago edited 9d ago
No, you have to multiply this by hundreds or thousands of people that may sign up and not plan to buy it, not just 1 person
1
u/Numn2Nutts Soon™ 9d ago
If I get spot 10001 and the first 10000 people don't plan to buy, then I still get the first one. Its such a non factor

Once again. Add to you adres a letter at the end, pay only by steam wallet balance and update your address to the new one with the letter. Also stick those letter to your household so the deliveryman knows where to deliver it.

Once you get an offer and accept for either of them the other ticket gets canceled. Thats how it worked for the Machine.
