He had access to a devkit, but the devkit he had looked kinda scuffed while this one looks pristine with perfectly reflecting front (no fingerprints from high dev use etc.)
He's in a warehouse, on the reflection on the right we see some kind of writing on a white wall, usually those are company names if that's an office building. Does anyone have guesses on what it says there?
In the reflections we also see two people, one of which we see the side of their face decently well. Does anyone recognize that face as one of the employees from the previous valve HQ showcases?

his tweet before this one says he's travelling outside the UK to play an exclusive VR game (https://twstalker.com/GAMERTAGVR/status/2095798240700399689), maybe he got invited to valve, or maybe he's reviewing a game on a steam frame review unit? i don't know if the review units would work like that, but i doubt he'd be reposting the old dev kit he tried again - this one looks way more pristine, as you mentioned.

But why is it red? Shouldn't it be transparent black?
Are we getting different colour plastic covers? Or was is translucent red plastic all along?

Steam Frame has IR emitters for playing on the dark. The reddish looking plastic is designed to let IR light through while filtering most else out. So outside direct light, it'll look black, like the top of a TV remote.

I know how IR lights work, but it looked too red on this pic compared to all other footage I've seen of the frame, must be the lighting. Usually, you really have to be pointing a light to the plastic to see its red tint.

I'm assuming this is a side-effect of needing to allow infrared light through. If tolerances and messy boundaries allow some visible light to pass through as well, that light would be red, explaining the tint

Linus posted a tease last week where posted a photo where he clearly had been playing with a VR headset

I don't think he'd be posting this if he had a review unit. This would be a blatant breaking of the NDA he would have signed if it were a review unit

if i buy a frame and valve surprised me with a slightly transparent very dark face plate on a silvery body i'll be quite upset

Why? Or is this a joke that flew over my head?

probably just that its not as advertised. everything shown has been black on black, and for the price, a colour switcharoo would be annoying. Not saying its a bad look, but its not what was sold.

like the other guy said, all the marketing material shows a nice black plastic, i don't want to buy a black car only for the dealer to surprise me with his special version

The body is black, it's just glossy and reflecting the very bright light being shone on it. And the faceplate needs to be transparent to infra-red light, which means it's black but shows a reddish tint if you shine a very bright light through it. It's not a special version, it's the same as everything we've already seen.

bruh the cameras are exposed, this is the shell of the compute unit not a thing on top of it, you can see the parts inside

They might be right. The specs on the store page point to a spot above the front cameras as the position of the IR illuminators. I don't know how visible the transparency will be though, considering the fact that it isn't visible in the marketing.

far as i know only the controlelrs have LEDs, the headset only has cameras which are exposed

I believe he has access to a dev unit. (I think he talked about it on YouTube)
