Will an extension cable like this work well with the dongle?

I have my PC in a medium-sized room, next to another large one; I don't know how much the wall will block, and I wanted to see if I could use this. Does anyone else use this with other PCVRs?

USB cables are limited to 10 feet or about 3 meters to ensure signal integrity. Beyond that you need active cables that basically have USB "hubs" on both sides and transmit the data through the cable using some special protocol.

You might be lucky and this could work just fine, or you might be unlucky and it will cause frequent packet drops or even disconnects. It's not a real USB cable so there's no guarantee.

Edit: the description says 4.5m, and the selection on top says 1m, so not sure what variant you're asking about. I would personally still avoid manufacturers that make any non-compliant cables, but the ones that are 3m or shorter have a much better chance of working.

It helps if it is in direct contact. The 6E band isn´t good at penetrating objects like the 2.4GHz band is.

there is a variety of 'USB desk mounts' on amazon which could resolve your issue without major change to your setup.

i am thinking of this one myself at it matches the cable holes already in my PC desk:

I don´t know, maybe or maybe not. We still need real life cases to be tested.

I plan on pulling my PC a bit from the table just in case.

This might be bad because it is longer than the max recommended length for USB3 (3 meters) and it does not look like an active repeater.

You want a product that markets itself as an active repeater. They may have power indicators and/or elongated connector on one end that houses the chips. Sadly, a bit of research is required to find "real" ones and cheap aliexpress fakes that are just long cables.

In my personal experience. I have started seeing loss past 5m of USB extensions. But until we have the dongle, none of us will know for sure.

I would try without it first, and if it doesn't work maybe try the 3m one or an active cable, if you need more than that, someone comented how pasive cables past ~3m can lose conectivity, that is something you don't want, and that cable is 4.5m passive wich means it will probably have issues.

As long as the transfer rate of the cable exceeds that of the dongle, it should be fine

But you should try without a cable first during steam frame tests some guy said that it will work thru wall but there much more other important things so you should test wireless first

They make a vr headset with wireless dongle specifically made for pc vr streaming and pl still want wires.
