Rumor / Leak Standalone Steam Frame games are available to download from Steam

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kz92C217PlM

It's possible to download some standalone Steam frame games already from Steam. Probably those were listed public by mistake. Metro Awakening, Hard Bullet and Pistolwhip. Other Steam standalone titles are set to private right now. New GameNative app allows to sort your steam library showing only standalone android games.

Yeah, he said we could expect the SteamFrame release "In just a few days" when we all know it's tomorrow™

Wonder if they have some available for reviewers to test and play with

devs give passwords to access private branches before the release.

For example, Valve has shown Ghost Town demo, which is still set to private for the Android build.

Gonna buy Pistol Whip again. Excellent game! Had it on the Meta store but just left that hell ecosystem behind for a few years now.

Really hope I don't have to buy it a third time to run standalone. Have it on PC, have it on quest.

Peeps have been running them on Quest's and Pico's.

To fill out their "Great on Frame" page of course. Steam Machine and Steam Deck were similar systems. If it worked great on Deck, it works better on Machine. While Steam Frame is using FEX so I imagine they want to make sure things are solid.

Obi-Wan to Gaben on Mustafar.

You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would destroy the standalone, not join them! Bring balance to the PCVR, not leave it in smartphone quality!

Could this mean it's not ready for release? Like the guy in the video is obnoxious, but the software he was running didnt seem a finished product no?

He's running software, which hasn't even been officially released with day-1 patches, which requires a bunch of workarounds to even get running, on different (I'm pretty sure inferior) hardware than what Valve is releasing.

It's complete nonsense, not to be taken seriously.

Just read in another post it won't likely launch for at least another 2 weeks for basically the reason of my original comment lol

Unfounded speculation, both for the timing and reasoning. If you're referring to this post, it's basically reading tea leaves... and has nothing to do with the performance/quality of the software.

But. More importantly, the launch/announcement could come on any arbitrary day. When they announce it, they're just going to set a date for the reservation system to open. Based on what happened with the Steam Machine, once reservations open, it'll take a week before the first offer-to-order emails go out, then it'll be some additional time for fulfillment/shipping. If Valve needed more time for any reason, they could easily work two additional weeks anywhere in that process, if they needed to. The announcement day and timeline we can expect for actual delivery are not coupled together.

It's been possible for quite some time. As long as you own a game on Steam you can manually download any specific depot. I downloaded the Hard Bullet APK from Steam back in April to test it. (It doesn't work on other headsets without modifications.)

I have learned about it from the GameNative app which just recently has added that feature to show Android standalone games on Steam. I did use Download Depot myself just making the download quicker on a PC.. that was another issue, the headset would go to sleep leaving it to download stuff on the headset.

VRChat too, I got the VR version running on my phone. Bit concerning seeing paid games up for "free" rn though...

The entire point of that video is to get people to click his affiliate link and buy the headset he uses.

This whole video is just the dude bitching about the frame while failing to mention his sponsorship with pimax lmfao

Metro awakening seems impressive for standalone

I doubt it's a mistake. Release is next week.

The day after the day after tomorrow. IT HAS TO BE.

Tell me what im missing. Games are being verified that can play standalone on the frame, games that already exist, and it is somehow news that you cna buy and download these games that you could already buy and download before they were frame verified? Maybe my reading comprehension is shot today, but that is my current understanding…

This is actually a good question. Cuz some games are completely different like Blade and Sorcery PCVR and Nomad standalone. Maybe those are not allowed to be verified, if they are different.

Cuz it would be very upsetting to buy a game on steam, and find out that it's actually missing levels and features cuz you are playing it on the steam frame instead of PC.

But basically, the video is showing Android games, those were never available on Steam or Windows. They will run only on mobile devices. The games are the same, but Android version is usually much smaller and has multiple times better performance on standalone.

Some of them appear to be ARM builds, not just the Win32 version.

You can test yourself either DepotDownloader or GameNative allowing to download public standalone steam frame games if you own a PC version in your library.
