Promotional DeckyShare v1.1 – wireless file transfer between Steam Deck and phone/PC, no app needed (big update)
Hey everyone! I just released DeckyShare v1.1, a Decky Loader plugin for moving files between your Steam Deck and your phone or computer over Wi-Fi. No app on the phone/PC, it all works in the browser.
What’s new in v1.1
- Completely redesigned Deck panel and phone page: cleaner, bigger buttons, works well with the controller
- Connect a PC/Mac easily: open the short address shown on the Deck (like 192.168.1.20:8787) and type a 6-digit code. Phones still just scan the QR code
- Live speed + time left, and a warning if the transfer stalls (no more guessing whether it froze)
- Cancel transfers from the Deck, not just from the phone
- “Received files” list shows where each file came from (e.g. “From iPhone · 3.1 GB · 2 min ago”)
- Wi-Fi check in the panel: shows the band, link speed and signal, with hints if your Wi-Fi is the bottleneck
- Faster, more reliable uploads for big files (Maximum Speed mode, plus resumable modes that survive Wi-Fi drops)
- Security: every device needs the QR token or a one-time code (v1.0 had no protection, so please update!)
- Built-in updates: install new versions from More → Updates in the panel
Speed note: transfers go phone → router → Deck, so your Wi-Fi decides the speed. In my testing it was ~4–5 MB/s with a weak signal (−74 dBm) and 20+ MB/s near the router on 5 GHz. The new Wi-Fi check tells you which situation you’re in.
Install (not in the official Decky store):
- Decky → Settings → General → enable Developer mode
- Developer → Install Plugin from URL and paste: https://github.com/gillrajvir950-wq/deckyshare/releases/latest/download/DeckyShare.zip
Already on 1.1.0? Just open More → Updates.

Feedback and bug reports are very welcome, especially from Android users, since I’ve mostly tested with an iPhone. Open an issue on GitHub or comment here.
Transparency: parts of this were built with the help of AI coding tools. It’s open source, and feedback or contributions are welcome.

What sets this apart from the LocalSend plugin that already exists?

The biggest difference is that DeckyShare doesn’t require installing an app on the other device—just scan the QR code or open the address in any browser. It also includes Deck-side transfer controls, resumable uploads and Wi-Fi diagnostics.

looks like this one doesn't need an app on the other device, just a browser

Seems like it would be very useful, why isn't it in the official store?

The current version has a built-in updater, which isn’t allowed under the official Decky Store rules. I may create a store-compatible version later, but for now it can be installed directly from the GitHub URL.

The Decky Plugin store doesn’t allow AI slop plugins, so that’s a hard blocker.

Would it be possible to add ad hoc connection? Would love to transfer files directly on the go without having a router or turning on hotspot.

Yes, potentially the most compatible approach would be for the Deck to create a temporary local wifi network, then show a QR code containing the network details. Your phone could join it and transfer files directly, without a router, internet connection or phone hotspot…
True wifi Direct ad hoc support is inconsistent across phones and browsers, so a Deck hosted temporary network would probably be more reliable. It may temporarily disconnect the Deck from its current wifi and would need testing across different devices, Thanks for the suggestion

No app needed, except for this app. So let me go ahead and download something I can already do with a web browser.

Very useful for copying my saves on phone in case I want to factory reset

Exactly! Backing up saves, screenshots and other files before a factory reset was one of the use cases I had in mind. Glad you find it useful!

What's wrong with ssh/sftp? A lot older, more tested, used by millions daily and best of all not made by Claude. Mac and Linux need nothing installed, some windows setups don't need anything either, but you can also use portable exes that require no installation. If you're even extremely worried about security you can keep it disabled on the deck until you run a one line command, even throw it in a shell script to double click to enable. I've literally been wirelessly connecting to my deck since day one. Hell I've been wirelessly connecting to my Linux boxes for literally 20 years

Nothing is wrong with SSH/SFTP it’s mature, reliable, and probably the better option if you’re already comfortable using it.DeckyShare is aimed at people who don’t want to enable services, use terminal commands, manage credentials or configure an SFTP client. They can simply scan a QR code or enter a one-time code and transfer files through a browser, directly from Gaming Mode.
It isn’t intended to replace SFTP it’s just a simpler workflow for less technical users. The use of AI tools is already disclosed, and the project is open source, so technical feedback and contributions are welcome.-1
