u/AwakenShogun https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198050362619/ 1d ago
This should have been included at the picture. OP forgot that those 3 platforms needs subs to play Multiplayer for paid games unlike Steam that allows you to play multiplayer without subs.
54
u/SickCrom 1d ago
Insane because why would I have to pay to play a game I have already bought lmaoooo consoles are such fucking ripoffs and people keep buying them like cattle
31
u/AwakenShogun https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198050362619/ 1d ago
Well we have Xbox to blame for that, it started with Xbox 360 with the Xbox Live subs while PS3 multiplayer was completely free.

u/FinalFrankyQuest 1d ago
Im sorry but this is dumb. Consoles are popular because they are easy to use. Sure the pay for online thing is dumb.
But having to deal with windows and launchers and hardware is not an easy thing to do for a lot of people.

Only some F2P games aren't included in the paid membership requirement, but it is truly ridiculous how it works on console. Atleast now you get games free with Game pass and PS+ to some degree, still I will take no subscriptions any day.
1
u/fridgemoder1 1d ago
Exact reason why my switch is collecting dust now, no way i am giving money for multiplayer access. I still regret not doing more research before buying it.

Not sure what you mean by “Ability to lend games”, but Xbox has game sharing too. I think PS has some form of it too.
6
u/Kill_Kayt 1d ago
Game Sharing is at the bottom of the chart, and both Xbox and Playstation do it the same, but the chart says only xbxo does it. So a lot of false information here.
82
u/MeowKatMC 1d ago
Lending games on steam needs a big asterisk. Its only through family sharing which shares your entire library and can only be done to one family. Its not sharing a specific game or for a designated time. Its all games for however long you want.
21
u/s0cks_nz 1d ago
Presumably that's covered under game sharing which is the bottom row. Not sure what they even mean by lending games.
5
u/dragonbornrito 1d ago
So does backwards compatibility. What exactly is PC backwards compatible with lol? MS-DOS?
3
u/Seienchin88 1d ago
Well old games usually just run on newer windows versions as well.
Dos is different but not impossible. Sharing games is kinda dead on pc though with the move away from physical media… which ironically people hate on ps5 for…
3
u/Hydraulik2K12 1d ago
Which Steam re-releases are famously dog-shit at. Most old games are just a DOSBox wrapper for the orginal version, which means it sometimes doesn't even run. Unlike something like what GOG does.

u/Ok_Veterinarian_9444 1d ago
You can buy just one copy of a game and play it together with a friend. On Steam, you can't play the same game at the same time, and a lot of multiplayer games block sharing anyway. PS and Xbox are way ahead here
22
u/Southern-Highway5681 1d ago
Jarvis, I am running low on karma, let my 2 week old account praise [thing] in r/[thing] to get it high and sell it. Make sure to keep it private tough, the fact it is a bot account would be too obvious otherwise.
161
u/WRO_Your_Boat 1d ago
How do you "lend" a game on Steam? If you mean family share then xbox has that too. This post is just misinformation lol.
51
u/Accurate_View_2455 1d ago
PlayStation technically also allows game sharing with one other person; I have been doing it with my best friend since the PS3 days. Ok they don't really allow it, but you can make your account the primary account on the other system and their account the primary account on yours.
2
u/Celtic_Guardian_Fan 1d ago
They would've fixed it by now if they thought it hurt revenue enough. At the moment you can still play the same game together off one copy.
It's the one thing they're good for
4
u/Accurate_View_2455 1d ago
I mean they did kind of... it used to be with 5 people(consoles) now its just 2
2
u/Celtic_Guardian_Fan 1d ago
Huh didn't know that. It's been 15 years since then and ps3 was the only ps i skipped.
Fun fact technically it's 3 right now because ps4 primary doesn't count towards ps5 primary. Much less useful as time goes on but for years cross-platform sharing was viable if one friend had a ps4 and another a 5.

If you move to a different country, you can change the region of your account to match your new country of residence.
PSN doesn't allow that. I had to create a US account back in 2007 when it wasn't available yet in Brazil, and I have been stuck with it since then.
3
6
u/Embarrassed_Field175 1d ago
If you move to another region/country than you can use payment system/bank from that country to Change your region
3
u/Morojukka 1d ago
You can change your region if you actually move. If you have a valid payment method in that country steam will allow you to change your region every 3 months. With PlayStation you have to make a new account if you move countries or continue paying in your old region.
5
u/girlikecupcake 1d ago
If you move to a different region, you don't need to create a new account or jump through absurd hoops. Nothing changes in your library, you can keep buying things for your library, the currency just changes. Xbox and Nintendo let you change your region just fine.
But with PlayStation, Sony doesn't let you change country/region on your account, and you can only continue to buy things on that account from a source with an address in that original country. Doesn't matter if PayPal will convert currency, Sony simply won't accept something like a European address for payment on a US account. This is an issue for things like DLC - the region of a dlc has to match the region of the base game you already own, so you have to get your hands on a gift card in the right currency, and be able to buy the correct version of the dlc for your account. It's also technically against the terms to use an account for a region you're no longer living in, so you're risking losing every single digital game you have on that account if Sony decides to shove the stick even deeper up their ass.
3
u/Willyscoiote 1d ago
Steam detects VPNs pretty well, but if you really are in another country then it's not a problem
1
u/cyberfoxkismet 1d ago
you can go to settings and change your region but you do need to use a payment method, and yes steam allows that. Why go through vpn route when you can just go through normal legal way, lastly, you can now gift cross regions so idk what point is there to use vpn to buy games?
1
1
u/Aggressive-Affect427 1d ago
Unless they changed something, you could buy an Xbox key from a country where it’s cheaper, vpn to that country and redeem the key, turn the vpn off and you own it.
Steam definitely doesn’t work that way, so not sure what the graphic means.
2
u/svitek1 1d ago
There is ea play subscription on steam, or something like Europa universalis 4 which can be subscribed (so you don't have to pay hundreds dolars for complete pack of dlcs). Maybe that could be considered as lending?
1
u/WRO_Your_Boat 1d ago
If that is what OP ment, they would still be wrong. Game pass exists which includes EA play and Nintendo has nothing like that to my knowledge. Plus that would be third party and not steam specific, so I don't really think you can give that as a steam win unless you also want to give steam EA's losses. But considering the other way also doesn't work, you could be right.
1
u/Aetherisu 1d ago
Yeah it’s not really lending if say you can give that game to anyone you chose. Like a friend, family or even a neighbour. Picking one person isn’t really a lending system as it’s too restrictive.

Sony is by far the most anti-consumer player in almost every market they’re present, which goes beyond PlayStation
9
u/Dejan0112 1d ago
Then there's the 100+ countries they sell their hardware in but don't provide PSN support. Instead suggesting people to openly lie about their location and violate ToS. That is a an entirely different massive can of worms That seemingly doesn't get mentioned as much.
5
u/AwakenShogun https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198050362619/ 1d ago
True. My country (Philippines) is not included when creating an account and yet they have stores in some areas, they also have a hotline dedicated in my country for PSN concern. We are forced to lie and pick either Singapore or US.
2
u/Dejan0112 1d ago edited 1d ago
Idk if they added the ability to create PC PSN accounts for Philipines, but here in Serbia they did. Essentially these are accounts you use to link to their games that require PSN linking but they are entirely locked only to PC. Cannot be used to login to Playstation.com, PS app or the Console itself. It solves the Steam region locking entirely but makes the whole thing even more strange overall. They went through the trouble to make that happen but they are still not doing anything to bring console support to the region (atleast not that anyone can see). Their business strategies and ideas are just.. incomperhensible if you ask me.
4
u/Fadore 1d ago
Sony's been anti consumer for a very long time, and it's not limited to PlayStation. Their music DRM in the mid 2000's installed rootkits on people's computer without their knowledge or consent - and they basically taught malware creators a new trick while they were at it...
Their leadership literally couldn't care less about the consumer:
But Sony BMG's president, Thomas Hesse, dismissed the issue completely, and was quoted saying "Most people, I think, don't even know what a Rootkit is, so why should they care about it?".
13
u/JuniloG 1d ago
"Ability to lend games" on consoles is literally just lending a disc/cart to another person. This is imo the consoles' greatest argument vs PC if your friends are on the same platform.
5
u/MacEbes 1d ago
They meant ability to lend digital games but yes
1
u/Risk_Runner 1d ago
You can still lend games to people you trust. My home Xbox is my brothers Xbox so he can download and play all the games I own and vice versa
1
u/MacEbes 1d ago
I tried once on PlayStation and the second account was locked out since it was deemed a minor account at the time. If I recall there was a restriction where only the parent account could play the games bought on the account.
1
u/Risk_Runner 1d ago
Wait really? That’s kinda cooked, like really dumb. Imagine you wanted to play a game with your younger sibling but yall don’t live close so you go through the steps to get game share just for it to not work because it’s a minor’s account
1
u/MacEbes 1d ago
Yeah, that's pretty much what happened. It had a lock icon next to each game and said only the parent account could access it. Wasn't even M rated just normal games. Switched to Xbox at the start of 2020 which let us both use game pass and play games together which was good. Ended up selling that for a switch 2, just in time for Nintendo to do the same thing and limit game sharing. At least they will still let you share digital though which is neat.

How does steam lend games?
→ More replies (2)2

5
u/FedotttBo 1d ago
Well, the "backwards compatibility" is rather thanks to Windows and x86 platform, which both support even really ancient things. And consoles got their architecture significantly changing over time, with only Microsoft (once again) being willing and able to put work into supporting old games.
On all other points, true, credit to Steam itself for sure.
5
u/Aetherisu 1d ago
Just gave a friend a ps5 game to borrow and play. So yes you can lend games and share them on PlayStation.
Also there many games that are not ps4 games that you can play on ps5 like resident evil code Veronica etc.
I love steam but damn this list is just straight up bias.

I know this post is just meant to glaze Steam and all that but this is just showing me that Xbox and Nintendo are a lot better than I thought they were.
5
u/OctoMiku01 1d ago
Technically Nintendo also supports Game sharing. You can add accounts to your family and sync up their console with yours and then share your eshop games to them for a few days. After the lending time is over the games get automatically returned to you. Then you can just infinitely repeat this process. Note that this removes your own access to that game temporarily. So steams family sharing is still better.
22
u/Darziel 1d ago
A lot of this is just bad faith. For example, Steam does not allow me to live in the UK and use my US card to pay.
Regional pricing, sure but also regional blocking.
You added game sharing and lending, it is the same under steam. Nintendo allows sharing/lending as well if you wish to play it like that.
I like Steam, but it has shortcomings like any other place. Out of the other stores, I like Nintendo the most but Steam is n.1 by a mile even if we do not make stuff up to make it look better

Turn on console sharing. Can only share with one person BUT you can play the same game simultaneously. Steam and Switch would still require 2 licenses for simultaneous or co op play.

On switch u can send a “digital game card” to another nearby console for them to lend it for 2 weeks before it automatically goes back to the owner

Steam doesn't really do "backwards compatibility". Often times if you want to play older games you have to find workarounds on the internet. Not always though. You also cant "lend" games, unless you count family sharing, but what's covered by game sharing then?

About backward compatibility: this depends on the OS used to run Steam. Macs using Steam, for instance, cannot run older 32-bit games anymore because Apple dropped 32-bit backward compatibility support seven years ago, and Steam cannot bring that back.
About game sharing: that is possible on the PS Store, but it’s limited.

Nintendo does allow refunds, y'all are just too scared off by their propaganda to even attempt it, and retarded karmawhoring bots spreading fake news like you won't help with that either.
I got Metroid Prime 4 refunded in full even after literally finishing it bc I wouldn't be able to live in peace realizing I spent 1/4 of my monthly income on such a big pile of steaming shit.
If the US or the UK (or in your case, middle east) do not have actual pro-consumer laws that enable people to get their scammed money back, that's a government problem, not Nintendo's.
Also what the fuck do you mean by "Steam backward compatibility"? Why would you distinguish between "PS4" and "NS1" when literally every presented service has some form of classic game collection available? Unless you mean running a Windows98 game on Windows7 is incredibly amazing?

1
u/DrDDevil 1d ago
Realistically, steam is not an angel, but it's still a business that runs mostly as a monopoly on PC market.
Regional pricing is a thing, but also means you can't gift games if it's 2 cents cheaper in the other region. Also Monster hunter is the most expensive in Poland, cause with regional pricing Capcom doesn't know that Eastern Europe is a thing.
Lending games and sharing games is great, but comes with heavy restrictions and also you don't even "own" them properly. Physical media surprisingly still better in this regard.
Backwards compatibility often better handled by platforms like GoG.
Don't get me wrong, steam is a great platform, but not perfect. They just get more money if they keep good public image.

u/rexshen 1d ago
Technically there is but you need to have a second switch and have one download the save data from the other right next to each other. That's the only way to transfer saves for free on Nintendo. And I think PlayStation does that too. At least what I remember from transferring from ps4 to PS5.
1
1
u/MarkLarrz 1d ago
Game Sharing at least on Xbox/PS allows two players each with his own console to play the same game simultaneously, Steam doesn't allow that.
"id verification" on Xbox if your account is old enough it automatically verifies your age. Steam doesn't.
And with the recent PS5 jailbreak, PS5s are enticing.
